What does it really mean to be wise?
In James 3:13–18, James makes it clear that wisdom isn’t measured by how much we know, how strongly we hold an opinion, or even whether we’re technically right. True wisdom shows up in the way we live.
In Episode 19 of Becoming Us, we’re talking about the difference between being smart and being wise, how selfish ambition can disguise itself as good intentions, and why one of the best ways to evaluate the wisdom we’re following is simply to look at the fruit.
Can we be right and still not be wise? How do we recognize when our own desires are driving our decisions? And what does it actually look like to be a peacemaker in a world that seems determined to choose sides?
We’re tackling all of that—and probably offering some questionable advice of our own—in “Three Wise Guys.”

Three Wise Guys
Because maybe wisdom doesn’t begin with having all the answers. Maybe it begins with being humble enough to recognize Who does.

E18: More Than Words
Words carry weight. And the more influence we have, the more our words matter.
James 3 begins with a warning to teachers, but quickly turns the mirror toward all of us: “We all make many mistakes.” In this episode, we talk about the responsibility of having a voice, why our words have such power to direct and destroy, and what it means to praise Jesus with the same mouth we use in everyday conversations.
If we speak the name of Jesus, how should His name reshape the way we speak?

E17: Do We See What He Sees?
Do we really see people the way Jesus sees them?
It’s a simple question—but if we’re honest, it’s one that challenges every one of us.
In Episode 17 of the Becoming Us Podcast, we continue our journey through the book of James and explore how easily we can begin valuing people by the standards of the world instead of the heart of God.
Together, we discuss:
• Why favoritism is ultimately a heart issue.
• How Jesus consistently saw value where others didn’t.
• What it looks like for mercy to triumph over judgment.
• How our churches can become places where every person experiences the welcome of Christ.
James reminds us that the ground is level at the foot of the cross. Every one of us has been welcomed by God’s grace, and that same grace should shape how we see and love others.

E16: Is God's Word Changing You?
📖 Is God’s Word Changing You?
Most of us have heard God’s Word countless times. But James asks a deeper question…
Is it changing us?
In Episode 16 of the Becoming Us Podcast, Cameron and I continue the conversation from Sunday’s message in James 1:19–27. Together, we explore what it means to be receptive to God’s Word, responsive to God’s Word, and ultimately surrendered to God’s Word as we grow to become more like Jesus.
If you’ve ever struggled to move from simply knowing God’s Word to actually living it, we think this conversation will encourage you.

E15: Trusting God's Character
What if the greatest battle behind every temptation isn’t about self-control—but about trust?
In this episode of Becoming Us, Michael and Dan continue the conversation from Sunday’s message in James 1:13–18, exploring what James teaches about temptation, the condition of our hearts, and the unchanging goodness of God. Together, they discuss why James begins by defending God’s character, how our desires shape our decisions, and why God’s promises are always greater than the counterfeit promises of sin.
Whether you’re wrestling with temptation, seeking a deeper understanding of God’s character, or simply wanting to grow in your faith, we pray this conversation encourages you to fix your eyes on the One who gives every good and perfect gift.

E14: Trust in Trials | James 1
🎙️ Episode 14 of Becoming Us is here!
After taking a little summer break, we’re excited to be back—and we’re even more excited to welcome Cameron Gladish, Lead Minister at First Christian Church, to the conversation for the first time.
This week, we’re continuing the discussion from James 1:1–12 and asking some of the questions many of us wrestle with:
• Why does James begin with trials?
• How can we experience joy when life is hard?
• How is God using our struggles to shape our faith?
Whether you’re walking through a difficult season or simply want to grow deeper in your walk with Christ, we hope this conversation encourages you to trust God’s heart, even when life doesn’t make sense.
🎧 Give Episode 14 a listen, and if it encourages you, share it with someone who could use the reminder that God is faithful in every season.
Because Jesus isn’t just changing what we know—He’s changing who we’re becoming.
