Breast Health in Your 40s, with Dr. Lucienne van Schalkwyk
Are your breasts feeling more tender, swollen, lumpy or sensitive now that you're in your 40s?
You're not imagining it. Perimenopause can bring changes to your breasts as hormones fluctuate - but how do you know what's a normal part of midlife and what deserves a closer look?
In this episode of BecomingYOU@40, we are joined by breast surgeon Dr. Lucienne van Schalkwyk for an important and empowering conversation about breast health in perimenopause and beyond.
Together, they unpack what women should know about:
✨ Breast changes during perimenopause
✨ Breast self-examinations
✨ When to start getting mammograms
✨ Family history and breast cancer risk
✨ Dense breasts and screening
✨ Lifestyle factors that may influence breast cancer risk
✨ What happens if a mammogram finds something that needs further investigation
✨ The red flags that should never be ignored
Most importantly, this conversation is about replacing fear and uncertainty with knowledge, confidence and self-advocacy.
Not every change means something is wrong - but you also don't have to figure it out alone.
If you've been putting off a screening, noticed a change, or simply want to understand your breast health better, this is a conversation worth having.

Perimenopause: Out of Balance? Here's the Fix
Have you ever done everything "right" and still ended the day feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or completely flat?
You may not need a better schedule. You may need better alignment.
In Episode 32 of BecomingYOU@40, we explore what balance really means during midlife and why trying to fit everything into your calendar isn't necessarily the answer.
Because real balance isn't about giving everything equal attention. It's about making sure your time, energy and choices reflect what actually matters to you.
During perimenopause, this becomes even more important. As your body changes, the things you could once push through may suddenly start showing up differently - from disrupted sleep and mood changes to unpredictable energy, digestion and other symptoms.
In this episode, we explore:
- Why a full schedule doesn't necessarily mean a fulfilled life
- The difference between time management and alignment
-Why your body may be giving you signals that something is out of sync
- How to identify what is actually draining you
- Simple ways to bring more alignment into your everyday life
- Why your 40s can be an opportunity to let go of what was never yours to carry
If you've been thinking, "I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing… so why don't I feel better?" - this episode is for you.
🎧 Listen now and ask yourself: Am I living in alignment with what truly matters to me?
If this episode resonates with you, share it with a friend who needs the reminder too.
