[…] Speaking of keeping cattle on-feed longer, these carcass weights are showing that as well. Both U.S. and Canada steer weights are running heavier. They do seasonally as we get into the fall. This is a great time for cattle to put on weight if the weather is cooperating, and it is in most parts. So right now, our weights in Canada last week were 979 on a steer. That's two pounds heavier than last year. And in the U.S., steer weights are 980, and that's 13 pounds heavier than last year. So remember, each animal is producing more beef as well. Now, were those September placements down? Does that speak to some of the grass, the status of grass? […]
