On the Beginnings podcast, writer and performer Andy Beckerman asks well-known and on-their-way-up comedians, musicians, writers, artists and thinkers about their earliest creative acts, their formative childhood experiences, and how they've developed both creatively and emotionally over the years. […] I can't imagine kids these days even walking the streets by themselves. But we just, like I was saying, we just kind of had free reign. And I think that was sort of a remnant of societal 70s. Just like 70s music, there's a freeness. Or 70s movies, there's a freeness or a sort of like a narrative that just happens that's unguarded and a little bit, uh, unwatched and a little bit, yeah, freer. Um, I don't know. My experience in LA was more so in the eighties, you know, when, uh, and it was Reagan and money and it didn't, it, it, it started feeling like, less hippie-ish I would imagine at that point it felt we we just didn't have those conversations like that we do now about you know LGBT or uh that kind of stuff it just was it was an undercurrent it wasn't in my experience you know it It wasn't part of the fabric of the kids I went to high school with and did shows with and stuff.
