Behavioral Intelligence con Mara Sánchez is a podcast where behavioral science meets real-world strategy — donde la ciencia del comportamiento se encuentra con la estrategia aplicada a la vida real.
Through the lens of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), exploramos cómo funciona la conducta humana, how habits are shaped, how decisions are made, y cómo podemos rediseñar nuestros resultados de manera intencional.
This is a space for growth, clarity, and precision.
🚨 TRAMPA DE EXAMEN: Naturalista NO significa simplemente “jugar”.
A. Análisis funcional
B. Enseñanza naturalista
C. Extinción
D. DTT
🎯 Respuesta: B — Enseñanza Naturalista
¿Por qué?
Actividad natural + motivación existente + respuesta funcional + reforzador naturalmente relacionado.
🚨 ROL DEL RBT
El RBT debe:
✔️ Seguir el plan establecido
✔️ Identificar oportunidades naturales
✔️ Aprovechar apropiadamente la motivación
✔️ Utilizar prompts según el protocolo
✔️ Reforzar las respuestas objetivo
✔️ Recopilar datos con precisión
✔️ Promover independencia y generalización
💎 BEHAVIORAL INTELLIGENCE TAKEAWAY
Reconoce el patrón:
📋 Ensayos estructurados → DTT
Y recuerda:
🚨 Naturalista NO significa improvisado.

Welcome to Behavioral Intelligence with Mara Sánchez, presented by Amethyst Therapy Services — where we turn RBT exam concepts into patterns you can recognize, remember, and apply.
We continue Section C with:
🎯 C.4. Implement naturalistic teaching procedures (e.g., incidental teaching, natural environment training).
The BIG idea:
🧠 Naturalistic teaching uses naturally occurring activities, motivation, and opportunities to teach skills.
Instead of always creating highly structured trials, the RBT takes advantage of what is already happening in the learner’s environment.
Think:
🌎 Real environment + Natural motivation + Teaching opportunity
🌱 NATURAL ENVIRONMENT TRAINING — NET
Natural Environment Training (NET) teaches skills within everyday activities and environments using naturally occurring motivation and reinforcers.
Example:
A child wants bubbles.
Instead of simply giving them the bubbles, the RBT uses the opportunity to teach an appropriate request:
Child reaches for bubbles.
RBT: “What do you want?”
Child: “Bubbles.”
RBT immediately gives the bubbles.
🎯 The learner wanted bubbles BEFORE the teaching opportunity.
The reinforcer is directly related to the response.
🔑 Exam clue: Natural activity + learner motivation + naturally related reinforcement = NET
💡 INCIDENTAL TEACHING
Incidental teaching takes advantage of naturally occurring opportunities, often initiated by the learner’s interest.
Example:
A favorite toy is visible but out of reach.
The learner approaches or shows interest.
The RBT uses that moment to encourage a more appropriate or complex communication response.
Learner: “Car.”
RBT: “What do you want?”
Learner: “I want the car.”
RBT gives the car.
🎯 The learner’s interest created the teaching opportunity.
🚨 DTT vs. NATURALISTIC TEACHING
This is an important exam distinction.
DTT:
📋 More structured
🎯 Planned trials
🪑 Often arranged teaching opportunities
🔄 Clear beginning and end to each trial
Naturalistic Teaching:
🌎 Embedded in everyday activities
💡 Uses naturally occurring opportunities
❤️ Often incorporates current motivation
🎁 Reinforcement is naturally connected to the activity
🚨 EXAM TRAP: Naturalistic does NOT mean unplanned or “just playing.”
The RBT is still teaching intentionally, following the client’s program and collecting data as required.
🧩 EXAM CHALLENGE
A learner is playing with a train set and notices that a preferred train is inside a closed container. The learner reaches toward it. The RBT uses the opportunity to prompt an appropriate request. After the learner requests “train,” the RBT immediately gives access to it.
Which teaching approach is MOST likely being used?
A. Functional analysis
B. Naturalistic teaching
C. Extinction
D. Discrete-trial teaching
🎯 Answer: B — Naturalistic Teaching
Why?
Natural activity + existing motivation + functional response + naturally related reinforcer.
🚨 RBT ROLE
When implementing naturalistic teaching, the RBT should:
✔️ Follow the established teaching plan
✔️ Identify relevant natural opportunities
✔️ Use the learner’s current motivation appropriately
✔️ Prompt according to the protocol
✔️ Reinforce target responses as programmed
✔️ Collect accurate data
✔️ Promote independence and generalization
💎 BEHAVIORAL INTELLIGENCE TAKEAWAY
For the exam, recognize the pattern:
📋 Structured teaching trials → Think DTT
🌎 Teaching embedded in real activities → Think Naturalistic Teaching
❤️ Learner interest creates an opportunity → Think Incidental Teaching
🌱 Natural environment + motivation + naturally related reinforcement → Think NET
And remember:
🚨 Naturalistic teaching is still systematic teaching.
The environment may feel natural, but the RBT is intentionally creating or capturing opportunities for learning.

RBT → “¡Muy bien!” + entrega el reforzador programado.
Breve pausa.
Siguiente ensayo.
🎯 Esa estructura debe hacerte pensar inmediatamente:
DTT — Discrete-Trial Teaching
❌ “¡No! ¡Incorrecto!”
