Joel Yakowitz on DEXA Scans, Metabolic Testing, and What Data-Driven Coaching Actually Looks Like
In this episode, I sit down with Joel Yakowitz, founder of Body Science Coach, who spent 26 years in healthcare (radiology and hospital management) before pivoting into fitness. In 2016, Joel and his wife opened a fitness lab offering DEXA scans, metabolic cart testing, and VO2 max testing, and he's since gone on to license that model to other businesses and help physicians add these testing services into their own practices. Joel is also a graduate of my Behaviour Change Coach program, and we talk about how that's shaped the way he works with clients alongside the data side of his business. We get into: What DEXA, metabolic cart, and VO2 max testing actually tell you (and why body fat percentage isn't the most useful number) Why data-literate clients (a lot of them in tech) are drawn to this kind of testing Finding the right mixture of lifestyle coaching and data-driven coaching, and how Joel's approach to that has evolved Differences he's noticed coaching men versus women The fitness industry's history of nutrition pendulum swings, from low-carb and insulin-hypothesis thinking to more evidence-based approaches How Joel is using AI to systemize his data interpretation process and scale his work Why he thinks coaches and trainers need to get comfortable reading DEXA and blood work results as more clients start walking in with them Connect with Joel: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/1HeREY4V2W/?mibextid=wwXIfr Instagram: @bodysciencecoach.com

"That ain't a business, mate" - From Labouring To Building His Own Team and The Executive Performance Academy
I told him straight at the time - "that ain't a business, mate" - and he's never looked back. On this episode I host Will Davison, who's gone from labouring jobs to becoming an Executive Health Strategist for Senior Leaders. Over the last half decade plus of personal growth, Will has built his own team - including his twin brother - and is now scaling his brand, the Executive Performance Academy. In this episode: How his coaching methods have evolved, and where he thinks the coaching industry's heading with AI on the rise Scaling his coaching business via LinkedIn: the good, the bad and the ugly How a caring job for a man with cerebral palsy - not a fitness job - is what actually got Will into a gym Why borrowing money from a friend for coaching was the start of everything - paying it back in 2 months, and his continued benefit from investing in himself with coaching and mentorship Enjoy the show. James Farmer: From Personal Trainer to Pitching Microsoft on Corporate Wellness At Scale
From Personal Trainer/Physio to targeting companies the size of Microsoft - James Farmer is building a SaaS product to scale his Health & Behaviour Coaching ethos to entire workforces. In this week's podcast, James and I discuss appearing on the cover of Men's Health through a chance introduction, starting out as a physio, and moving into Personal Training in London. We also talk about us originally meeting a decade before we worked together, and how he eventually moved into online coaching after his income disappeared over Covid. A must-watch if you want to know what it actually takes to go from Personal Trainer/Physio to pitching companies the size of Microsoft. We also dive into: Working alongside some of London's top Physios at Chelsea Bridge Clinic, treating everyone from general public to Olympic and professional athletes Why James built his 1:1 Behaviour Change programs around 12-week cycles, and what happens once a client's initial pain has gone How he got his first 1:1 coaching business off the ground, and the nudging it took from my team to get him actually booking clients rather than trying to perfect the program first How a client accidentally named his "Infinite Game" program for him, during the edit of a testimonial video The CEO client whose only goal was being fit enough to walk his daughter down the aisle, and why James couldn't get through to him The "market for lemons": my take on why COVID flooded the coaching industry with bad operators and damaged trust for everyone, including the good coaches What the SaaS product actually measures: capacity and stability across a workforce, and where companies should really be investing (hint: not just their top performers) One of my favourite episodes so far. From £40/Hour As A PT To $12,500 Corporate Speaking Gigs - Harri’s Story
Harri went from charging £40 an hour as a PT... to getting paid $12,500 for 2 days of corporate speaking. Full disclosure: Harri was one of my coaching clients back when he made the jump from in-person PT to online, behaviour-change-based coaching. Everything he's built since then - the public speaking, the deep inner work, the business partnership - is his own work, not mine. But I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been watching in awe at where he's taken it. We also happened to record this the same week Iran was firing missiles near Harri's home in Dubai. So that's where we started. What we cover: Living (and coaching) through m1ssile strikes in Dubai Why "mindset" became a fluffy, almost embarrassing word - and how Harri built a real business around it anyway Going from terrified of public speaking to charging five figures to do it The exact rate jump - £40/hour PT to $12,500 for a 2-day corporate gig Why "your weakness is their way out" when it comes to sales Coaching CEOs and high-performers without putting them on a pedestal The real difference between coaching men and women, and why it's a bigger variable than age... or anything else Why Harri took on a business partner after 8 years running solo Connect with Harri: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/harri_pereira/ (https://www.instagram.com/harri_pereira/) Website: http://mindsetxcoaching.com/ (http://mindsetxcoaching.com/)

How Motherhood Changed Coach Jamie's Relationship With Her Own Health
Ex-client, health coach, and massage therapist, Jamie is my guest this week... and it’s a fascinating life story so far.Beginning in her twenties, Jamie’s initial interest in health, strength training, and nutrition soon escalated into cycles of restriction, fasting, and control. And while you may expect a move into the fitness profession to ease these extremes, the reality was the opposite - The new career only seemed to add pressure to “walk the walk” and embody the so-called ideals of the industry. So alongside navigating and helping her clients get fitter, stronger, and leaner, she was also still grappling with her own struggles. In this episode Jamie talks about the pivotal moment everything began to change: becoming a mother.Jamie even describes pregnancy as the first time she felt permission to stop chasing weight loss. And more importantly, motherhood led her to reflect on the example she wanted to set for her daughter.Today, Jamie helps other women build strength, move well, and develop a more sustainable relationship with their health, body and beliefs. Our conversation also explores fitness culture, intuitive eating, aging, parenting and the shift from perfectionist tendencies to cultivating real self-trust.Connect with Jamie:Website: www.jamiechenelle.com (www.jamiechenelle.com)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jamiechenelle/ (https://www.instagram.com/jamiechenelle/)Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jamiechenelle/ (https://www.facebook.com/jamiechenelle/)LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-chenelle-77950561/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamie-chenelle-77950561/)

The Evolution of the Fitness Industry: A Two-Decade Perspective
On this week’s episode, Gemma and I did a deep dive on the evolution of the fitness industry; from an exercise-only focused environment, to one where the highest level coaches are often doing far more work around nutrition, psychology, and behaviour change than exercise itself. Now a certified nutrition and behaviour change coach, in her late teens Jemma struggled with restrictive eating and body dysmorphia - something she later realised was tied to both the beauty standards of the late 90s and the need for control. She also talks openly about how such behaviours were often normalised in the bodybuilding environments she found herself in during her 20s. Nearly two decades later, Jemma now works with women in their 40s and 50s around energy levels, weight loss, menopause, nervous system regulation, and emotional relationships with food.Having gone through those experiences herself, Jemma spoke about how many of the women she works with eventually uncover patterns of emotional eating, stress eating, comfort eating, and difficult relationships with food - often developed through years of stress or using food as a coping mechanism. We also spoke about: - comfort eating and food noise - behaviour change versus meal plans - coaching men versus women - alcohol culture and coping mechanisms I enjoyed this one, because instead of just a discussion about dieting, it ended up a cool conversation around why people develop the habits and behaviours they do. Personal Branding Without Going Viral | Monika
I originally wanted Monika on the podcast to talk about personal branding, but the 90-minute deep dive conversation became much bigger than that.We went into Monika’s journey: moving from Poland to the US without speaking English, working as a poorly paid au pair, and stumbling into fitness because she needed an escape from her flatmate… eventually opening a gym, building a 6-figure online coaching business, and becoming a successful business coach. We also talked about:- growing up around post-communist money mindsets,- bodybuilding and competing,- immigration, independence and building a big life in the US,- not listening to family or social expectations,- and building a life on your own terms. We still covered personal branding in depth, especially how Monika uses content and social media to stand out online without needing to go viral. If you’re self-employed, coaching, building an audience, or trying to grow simply by showing up consistently as your authentic self, there’s a lot in this episode worth listening to.Connect with Monika: Website: https://www.monikaamazur.com (https://www.monikaamazur.com)Instagram (Personal): @monika_a_mazur (@monika_a_mazur)Instagram (Podcast): @monika_a_mazur_podcast_ (@monika_a_mazur_podcast_)LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/monikaamazur/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/monikaamazur/)

From Freezing Garage PT to Accrediting Menopause Coaches Across the UK

Winning in the AI Era: The Case for Human Coaching & Simple Systems
The online fitness industry is going through a major transition - largely driven by AI - and most coaches are underestimating how significant that shift will be.Ash argues that the industry is splitting into two clear directions: “trainer-style” services (programs, nutrition plans, data-driven adjustments) and coaching change (human connection, behaviour change, and decision-making support). In his view, the future belongs to coaches who firmly sit in the second category.A friend of Behaviour Change Coach for over a decade, Ash has had visibility across thousands of fitness businesses and, through his own ventures, has always seen major industry shifts, long before they happen. In the episode we discuss systems and coaching, we explore why marketing is becoming harder, but how coaches can still stand out, and why the traditional push for scaled businesses isn’t actually what most coaches want. Instead, lean, sustainable six-figure businesses are often more realistic… and more desirable, he argues. We also touch on his offering, Daily Rounds - his new software tool for business that removes thinking from the day and improves decision fatigue, so overall, one not to miss.Follow Ash On:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ashptdninja (https://www.facebook.com/ashptdninja)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ashburleigh/ (https://www.instagram.com/ashburleigh/)LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ash-burleigh-183496208/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ash-burleigh-183496208/)

Reinventing a Career: From Corporate Work to Meaningful Menopause Health
Sara spent years in a stable corporate job before realising she couldn’t see herself doing it long-term.Courageously, Sara decided to retrain as a PT. Others thought her decision "crazy”, a hobby, and that she’d soon "come to her senses". The transition was tough - moving from steady income to uncertainty, the early years were inconsistent and a big shift from office life.Slowly and steadily, Sara grew her reputation locally. While working with clients and seeing some initial success, she started to realise sessions were less about just the workouts and more about the conversations around them - a realisation that led her into behaviour change coaching, where everything started to click. Now, alongside training and workouts (which she still loves), she helps clients build consistency and confidence through her coaching away from the gym. A menopause expert, in this episode Sara talks through that transition — leaving corporate, the challenges of starting in fitness, and how her approach evolved into a movement helping women navigate menopause through her training, coaching, speaking, and online support programs.Connect with Sara:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sara.balanced.life (https://www.facebook.com/sara.balanced.life)Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sara_balanced_life/ (https://www.instagram.com/sara_balanced_life/)Website: www.balanced-life.co.uk (www.balanced-life.co.uk)

The Jewish Women’s Dietitian - Rena Cohen's Story of Creating The Sanctuary™
In this episode, I sit down with Rena Cohen to explore her journey from hospital registered dietitian and working in a neonatal hospital unit to founder of The Sanctuary™ — a behaviour-focused coaching space for Jewish women. We went deep on her business, niche, why working with Jewish women has revealed patterns around food, identity and generational history, and how building a culturally specific community transformed not only her clients’ results, but her confidence as a coach. We also discuss: - Why knowledge isn’t the same as transformation - NLP & How the brain distorts reality (the “apple pie” effect) - Fear of hunger, epigenetics, and generational patterns - Moving from delivering plans to facilitating real behaviour change This thoughtful conversation goes far beyond just weight loss. It’s about identity, coaching maturity, and the courage to build something meaningful. Whether you’re a coach, trainer, or someone interested in the psychology behind behaviour change, this episode will challenge how you think about transformation. Codifying ADHD & Business Growth - Jack’s Story of Discovering The Hunter Brain™
In this episode, I sit down with an ADHD expert, Coach and business owner Jack to unpack what it actually feels like to build a business with an ADHD brain. We talk about the early years where chaos can feel like a superpower... fast ideas, big energy, creative bursts… and the moment that same wiring becomes the ceiling which will always hold you back. We explore the difference between interest-driven vs importance-driven behaviour, why so many high-performing coaches hit that “chaos ceiling,” and how smart systems, process and staff frees your creativity instead of limiting it." We also dive into some personal conversation; shame vs guilt, identity, and the danger of turning a diagnosis into a limitation instead of a framework for agency. This is an interesting conversation about performance, self-awareness, business growth, and what it really takes to stop being the bottleneck in your own success. "If you’ve ever thought, 'Why can’t I just do the simple things consistently to grow my business?' — Jack explains why and how to fix it.
