Behind the Prop is the Podcast for anyone involved in aviation from general aviation to professional pilots. Our hosts Bobby Doss is the owner of a flight school in Houston, Texas, and Wally Mulhearn is a pilot for a major airline and is also a designated pilot examiner (DPE) based in Houston, Texas. Weekly they tell stories, share lessons and tips from behind the prop. Together they have over 24,400 hours of flight time (Wally has over 24,000 of those) and collectively they provide very unique perspectives on general aviation, airplanes, and all things aviation.

[…] They are scared. And that's a big thing. But if you're starting in aviation and after you have 150, 180 hours and you are starting to be better, I don't know if to explain this, but it's sometimes a way it's easier or it look like, but that's a big problem that can kill you with something simple. Oh, yeah. We've had an author on the show many times. His name's Paul Craig and the book he wrote, he wrote a lot of books, but his biggest book is called the killing zone and it's mostly about flight mistakes but the killing zone is about 150 hours to 300 hours it's that zone of where you have that level of confidence that you'll probably take more risks or maybe not pay as much attention as you would if you're a first-time pilot and that's where we make mistakes that's where pilots traditionally make mistakes that's where the large majority of all fatalities happen um I guess I want to ask you a question.
