Teen Talk Pt.2: Lambi, Childhood Addiction Awareness, and Mental Health Support

In this episode of Behind the Scenes of Rescue 180, Rev. Debra Shultz and Chloe continue their conversation by focusing on the Lambi Learns About Addiction program and the importance of helping children understand addiction, mental health, and healthy coping skills at an early age. They discuss how programs like Lambi create safe spaces for children to process difficult situations at home, understand that addiction is not their fault, and learn how to express emotions in healthy ways. The episode also explores the impact of generational addiction, the importance of school counselors and mental health support, and how prevention efforts can help children build resilience, confidence, and emotional stability. Teen Talk: Vaping, Mental Health, and Choosing Life

In this episode of Behind the Scenes of Rescue 180, Rev. Debra Shultz sits down with Chloe, a Jefferson County High School senior and Rescue 180 service-learning intern, to talk about the realities teens face with vaping, social media pressure, mental health, and substance use. Chloe shares a student’s perspective on how vaping culture has changed, why products are so accessible to teens, and how peer influence and self-esteem play a major role in decision-making. The conversation also explores the importance of mentorship, mental health resources, community involvement, and finding purpose through positive opportunities instead of unhealthy coping mechanisms. Divine Design, Addiction, and the Spiritual Impact of Substance Use

In this continuing episode of Behind the Scenes of Rescue 180, Rev. Debra Shultz builds on the previous conversation about divine design by going deeper into how addiction affects the human will, the spirit, and personal identity. Rev. Debra explains how substance use can gradually change a person’s personality, character, and moral compass, often leaving families asking where the person they once knew has gone. She speaks candidly about how drugs and alcohol erode relationships, decision making, and emotional stability over time. This episode focuses on how addiction suppresses the will and opens the door to spiritual strongholds and attachments. Rev. Debra emphasizes that while addiction is destructive and evil, the person is not, and restoration is still possible when the will begins to be reclaimed. She also shares how Rescue 180 operates as a wraparound service, offering prevention, education, jail re entry support, recovery resources, emotional support, and prayer for those who want it. The goal remains the same: to help individuals rebuild what has been broken and return to the original blueprint God designed for their lives. This conversation continues the foundation of the series, offering clarity, truth, and hope for those impacted by addiction and those walking alongside them.

Divine Design and the Will: How Substance Use Changes a Person

In this episode of Rescue 180, Rev. Debra Shultz continues the series on divine design by addressing a critical and often misunderstood topic: the human will, and how substance use can violate it. Rev. Debra explains why addiction causes such dramatic changes in behavior, personality, and decision-making. She walks listeners through both the physical and spiritual effects of substance use, using methamphetamine, prescription drugs, alcohol, and other substances as examples of how the brain and the will are impacted over time. This episode sheds light on why people often say, “This is not the same person anymore,” and what is really happening beneath the surface. Drawing from years of working with individuals and families affected by addiction, Rev. Debra discusses how early exposure, trauma, and accessibility play a role in shaping addiction, and why prevention and education are so important. She emphasizes that addiction does not just affect the body or the brain, but the body, soul, and spirit together. This episode also clarifies the mission of Rescue 180, which is not to fix people but to help rebuild what has been broken through mental health support, spiritual care, physical restoration, and community connection. It is an honest and direct conversation about responsibility, recovery, and restoring the will so that healing can truly begin.

Prelude to Recovery: Prevention, Community, and Rebuilding Identity

In this continuing prelude episode of Rescue 180, Rev. Debra Shultz speaks directly to the heart of what this work is really about. Recovery is not just about stopping a behavior. It is about rebuilding a life. This episode continues the conversation around divine design and explores how prevention, community, and identity play a role long before addiction ever shows up. Debra explains the meaning behind the name Rescue 180, where rescue represents salvation and 180 represents repentance, or turning back toward who God created you to be. She reflects on how brokenness, isolation, trauma, and unforgiveness can quietly shape a person’s life, and how many people end up self-medicating simply to cope with pain. The discussion touches on the importance of community, forgiveness, healthy choices, and staying connected rather than living life on an island. Debra also shares how Rescue 180 approaches prevention, intervention, and recovery together, while weaving in faith, mental health tools, and practical support. This episode sets the foundation for future conversations about substance use, the human will, and how lives can be rebuilt even after everything feels lost.

Prelude to Recovery: Identity, Belief, and the Foundation of Rescue 180

In this foundational episode of Rescue 180, we lay the groundwork for the heart behind the mission. What if addiction is not the root problem, but a symptom? What if true recovery begins with identity? The founder of Rescue 180 reflects on the ministry’s origins, which began in 1998 as a jail ministry serving women, and shares how years of walking alongside brokenness have revealed a deeper truth. Healing requires reconnecting to one’s divine design. This episode explores the stigma surrounding addiction, the importance of belief systems, and how recovery is ultimately tied to understanding who you are and whose you are. Joined by her husband, Keith Shultz, the conversation turns to faith, education, Genesis, and the tension many experience between secular learning and spiritual truth. Together, they discuss how belief, whether in God or in other worldviews, shapes identity, choices, and purpose. This episode serves as a prelude to future conversations, inviting listeners to reflect on recovery not simply as sobriety, but as restoration of self, faith, and connection to God.

Prevention 101: Building on the Rock

In this first episode of Behind the Scenes of Rescue 180, we lay the foundation for everything our mission stands for: prevention, purpose, and faith. We talk about why prevention matters, not only as a community effort but as a biblical principle rooted in God’s design. From the parable of building on the rock to the real challenges of addiction, mental health, and recovery, this conversation connects faith and prevention in practical, everyday ways. You’ll hear the heart behind Rescue 180’s mission and how a jail ministry in 1998 grew into a community-wide movement focused on hope, healing, and restoration. Our work is about more than recovery; it’s about redemption. Faith. Hope. Prevention. This is where the journey begins—building on the rock, not the sand.
