When Life Feels Like a Valley
Giving a voice to the journey from broken to beloved. 🕊️ Today I am sharing a special episode of Behold-Her Beauty Podcast with author, Sarah Freymuth (https://substack.com/profile/153699720-sarah-freymuth) to discuss her book, All the Hard Things: 50 Days Through the Valley. Also join the conversation by subscribing, leaving a review, and sharing your thoughts in the comments. We would love it if you would leave a ❤️ to let us know you’re reading and listening! Sarah is the author of All the Hard Things: 50 Days Through the Valley (https://amzn.to/3Zdtr5W), a devotional journey shaped by her own experiences of long COVID, anxiety, depression, and the repeated hardships that quietly reshape a life. In our conversation, she opens up about what it means to find God’s presence not after the hard things—but in the middle of them. Through her story, we talk about what it looks like to anchor identity in Christ when everything else feels uncertain, and how God often speaks through unexpected “trail markers” of hope—like friendships, nature, music, and even the small reminders we almost overlook. We also talk about beauty, soul care, and what it means to believe God is still good when life feels heavy. If you’ve ever found yourself in a season where the “valley” feels long or confusing, this conversation will gently meet you there. Because sometimes hope doesn’t arrive as a rescue from the valley—but as a companion within it. The episode closes with a beautiful heartfelt prayer from Sarah to guide you through your week. A Reflection For You Where in your life do you feel like you are in a “valley” season—and what might God be inviting you to notice right there? I’ll meet you in the comments. You can pick up her book here: https://amzn.to/3Zdtr5W (https://amzn.to/3Zdtr5W) Sarah Freymuth is the content and storytelling manager for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she writes for numerous platforms, including Proverbs 31 Ministries, YouVersion, (in)Courage, and She Reads Truth. Sarah loves unearthing God’s goodness in places that don’t feel good, with a heart especially for faith and mental health. Poetic Interlude: "I Was Always Meant to Bloom" (with Deborah Rutherford)
Giving a voice to the journey from broken to beloved. 🕊️ In this special bonus episode, I step away from our usual interview format to share a deeply personal piece of my heart with you. I’m reading my poem, “I Was Always Meant to Bloom,” paired with the beautiful promise found in Isaiah 58:11. If this message touches you today, please place a heart in the comments. It’s a small gesture that helps my writing reach more weary hearts with the hope of Jesus. In the midst of the wilderness, there is still an oasis. 🌿 I have been receiving so many beautiful emails, texts, and reviews about how my book is making you feel less alone and filling you with encouragement and hope. So, I wanted to read to you my poem, “I Was Always Meant to Bloom,” because if I’m honest, there were days when I didn’t think I would. But God is so kind and loving, and just as He promises in Isaiah 58:11: The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. This poem is incredibly close to my heart. I wrote it on a day when I deeply needed to remember that we are never too far gone, never forgotten, and never too undone for the love of the Father. If you’ve been wondering lately if you will ever bloom again, I pray these words find you today and remind you of that promise. Because, sweet friend, you were always meant to bloom. I’d love to know—which line from this poem or the Scripture speaks to your heart the most today? Let me know in the comments. 👇🏼 📖 The journey home continues in my new memoir in verse, Prodigal Daughter: Poems of Light for the Lost Ones, which recently hit #1 in Christian Poetry! This book is my heart on paper, written for every soul who has ever felt ‘too far gone’ to sit at the Father’s table. Today, I am welcoming our lovely guest author, Nichole J Suvar (https://substack.com/profile/140023548-nichole-j-suvar) , to the chair to discuss her book, I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together: Cultivating the Peace of Eden When Feeling Overwhelmed, which releases in June 2026. A Gift for You: Receive your free resource and carry this truth with you throughout your day. Download your free resource: the “You are Chosen by Your King” Phone Lockscreen/Wallpaper. We would love it if you would leave a ❤️ to let us know you’re listening! I know my daily life can seem so overwhelming and I bet yours too. That’s why I am excited to share my conversation with author speaker Nichole J Suvar (https://substack.com/profile/140023548-nichole-j-suvar) . We dive into her new book, I Don’t Have To Hold It All Together: Cultivating the Peace of Eden When Feeling Overwhelmed. Plus we’ll do a little beauty bonus at the end. Sponsored by Women Like Esther Magazine, this conversation is an invitation to release the need for control and lean into the beautiful peace God has already designed for us. Healing and Surrender Nichole opens up about her own journey with mental wellness which goes back to childhood panic attacks. She would later be diagnosed with anxiety and depression. What’s so wonderful is how Nichole found healing through language, counseling, medication and faith. Her ultimate goal? To help women name their overwhelm and surrender their anxiety to God’s design. “It goes back to the garden, all the way back to Eden, all the way from the very beginning. God was already holding it together. He’s holding it together now and he will continue in the future.” — Nichole J. Suvar The Eden-Based Framework Nichole introduces an inspiring framework based on the Garden of Eden which I love so much! Rather than grasping for control, she shows us how to cultivate peace the Eden way. Eden gifts still available to us today include: * Communion with God: Drawing near to the Creator in quiet moments. * Creation and the Outdoors: Finding calm in the beauty of nature. * Rest: Embracing the divine design of Sabbath and slowing down. * Belonging and Community: Sharing our burdens and finding support in fellowship. From Overwhelm to Peace What does it look like to grasping for control to cultivating peace? Nichole shared practical, real-world examples, such as delegating family tasks and choosing presence over productivity. In our beauty bonus section you’ll find: * How we view our bodies and practice self-care. * Addressing body image through the lens of God’s truth. * Countering the lies we believe with scripture-based identity. The episode closes with a beautiful heartfelt prayer from Nichole to guide you through your week. Reflection & Journaling Prompt Take a few quiet moments this week to reflect on the conversation. Consider journaling on the following prompt: What is one area of your life where you have been trying to “hold it all together,” and what is one small step you can take today to surrender that control and receive God’s peace? If you like share in the comments, we’re here for you. SPECIAL INVITATION: You don’t have to carry it all! But so many women I know are quietly carrying the weight of everything—home, work, relationships, expectations… all while trying to hold it together on the outside. If that’s you, I want you to hear this: you don’t have to keep living this way. I’m part of the Women of Eden Virtual Summit, and it’s been created for women who are ready to step out of overwhelm and into a more peaceful, faith-rooted way of living. Through real stories and practical encouragement, this summit will help you slow down, reflect, and take a breath again.
