临近联合审查节点的美墨加协定
随着7月1日《美墨加协定》（USMCA）首次三方联合审查节点的临近，墨西哥经济部长6月1日致函美国和加拿大的贸易代表，正式提议将协定直接续签16年，第二天加拿大加美事务部长多米尼克·勒布朗（Dominic LeBlanc）在华盛顿与美国贸易代表会晤时也正式表达了与墨西哥相同的立场，美国总统特朗普6月10日回应称“我没打算续签它”，并重申美国“不需要加拿大和墨西哥的任何东西，但他们需要我们的一切”。特朗普的态度很有可能令《美墨加协定》错过7月1日直接续签的截止日期，而在未来年复一年的审查和谈判中，美国退出的威胁将如影随形。

王毅再访加拿大
距上次在渥太华记者会上对加拿大女记者发怒满十周年之际，中国外长王毅于5月28日到30日再次访问加拿大。在他抵达当天，加拿大总理卡尼在纽约呼吁与美国建立“新型伙伴关系”，称加拿大强大“将助力美国再次伟大”。同一天加拿大国防部宣布其海军护卫舰“夏洛特敦”号（HMCS Charlottetown）于5月22日到23日穿越了台湾海峡，这是对中国驻加大使4月底所说“如果渥太华派遣更多军舰通过台湾海峡”，两国新“达成的战略伙伴关系将受到损害”威胁的直接无视。
