Better Late is a cozy, unfiltered solo pod hosted by Mariela Segovia, a Venezuelan actress living, loving, and overthinking in Los Angeles. It’s part storytelling, part big sister advice, and all heart—full of real talk about dating, career pivots, cultural mashups, and growing into yourself at your own damn pace. Every Sunday, “better late” isn’t a flaw—it’s a vibe. Because spoiler: you’re not behind. You’re right on time.
This week’s episode is The Birthday Episode 🎂
A slightly unhinged, very honest birthday check-in.
I start by talking about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show and why it hit me right in the soul. The storytelling, the intention, the pride, and what it means to see your culture centered on a global stage when you come from somewhere else.
Then I get into my complicated relationship with birthdays. The anxiety, the expectations, the history tied to the day I was born, and that very specific fear that no one will show up (even though… they always do). I talk about growing up, letting go of the “perfect birthday” fantasy, and realizing that what actually matters is feeling genuinely close to the people you love, even if it’s over FaceTime.
There are reflections on gratitude, near-miss moments that make you rethink everything, aging without losing humor (or collagen), and why I firmly believe my personal new year starts on my birthday, not January 1st.
Thanks for celebrating another year of life with me. ✨

Ep.12: Better Late, New Season
I’m back.
And no, I’m not doing New Year’s resolutions.
In this short reset episode, I talk about why I don’t believe the year really starts until February (Aquarius so iykyk), how last year challenged me in ways I didn’t expect, and why spending too much time online finally caught up with me.
I open up about information overload, social media burnout, and what it’s been like watching Venezuela dominate headlines — and opinions — from afar. I also share some life updates, including a necessary breakup with my manager, and where I want to take Better Late next.
This episode marks the beginning of a new season with more intention, more conversations, and weekly episodes again.
No pressure. No perfection. Just my absolute best every time .

Ep. 10: It Takes A Village...
This one’s for my independent souls, late bloomers, and anyone who's ever wondered: Wait... where’s my village? In this solo episode, I’m unpacking what it’s like to chase your dreams without a cheering squad, how to build community as an adult, and why being alone doesn’t mean being lonely.
I also get into backgammon, Hinge heartbreaks, ghosting during the pandemic (rude), and the magic of learning to be your own hype team. Spoiler: you haven’t met all the people you’re going to love yet.

EP. 9: How Is This Normal? Venezuela vs. USA Culture Shocks
In this episode of Better Late, I dive into the small, everyday things that shook me when I moved from Venezuela to the U.S.
From avocados that were basically free (because someone always had a tree), to tipping culture that went from optional to absolutely crucial, everything felt a little upside down.
Why are oysters so expensive here? Why do bathrooms have ventilators instead of windows? Why do doctors act like you’re bothering them when you’re sick? 😂
It’s all love, all laughs, and a little homesickness in this Venezuela vs. USA edition of Culture Shock Chronicles.

Ep. 2: From Miami to LA — The Humbling Leap
In this heartfelt second episode, Mariela gets candid about the struggle to hit “record” again after a successful first episode. From procrastination to vulnerability, Mariela dives into the very real fears that come with putting yourself out there—before anyone’s even seen the show.
She takes us back to Miami, where her journey in the U.S. began, celebrating her sister’s graduation and reflecting on her own path from commercials and voiceovers in Florida to chasing big dreams in LA. With humor and honesty, Mariela shares what made her take the leap, how John Mayer, a Raya date, and a gut feeling led her west, and how quickly the industry’s glamour gave way to reality.
This episode is a love letter to starting over, trusting the timing of your life, and staying delusionally confident when things get tough.
🌟 Whether you’re chasing a dream, dealing with self-doubt, or just love a good story—you’ll find something to hold onto here.
