Between 2 Sprints by 1080 Motion is a coach-to-coach and athlete-to-coach conversation series focused on real training, real decisions, and the people doing great work behind the scenes.
Each episode sits down with high-level coaches and athletes to unpack how they actually use motorized resistance, data, and intent to guide performance, rehab, and return-to-play.
Just honest conversations about what works, what’s learned along the way, and how 1080 Motion technology and training systems evolve in the real world.
Trevor Foreman spent years in Cal Dietz' system at Minnesota, learning triphasic training with four 1080 Sprints and two Syncros before taking his head job with Augustana Hockey. This episode covers what that transition taught him, how he advocates for equipment budgets as a solo strength coach, and what he’s actually doing with the 1080 Sprint 2 now that he has one
Topics covered:
-Isokinetic bench press at Minnesota
-Reverse-engineering a triphasic program without the equipment
-How Trevor discussed with his coaching staff to choose a 1080 Sprint over a force plate
-Reading right-left asymmetry graphs and the three-rep rule
-On-ice resisted sprinting

Power Development, Assisted Sprinting, and 10 Years of Using the 1080 Sprint | Jake Cohen
Jake Cohen has been using the 1080 Sprint since 2016, first at the Division I level at Illinois, and now in the private sector working with everyone from NFL athletes to high school kids. This episode covers a decade of learning: what surprised him early, how his use of the technology has evolved, and where his coaching has gone since moving off the track
Topics covered:
-Why Jake was lured to Illinois with the promise of a 1080 Sprint
-Power as the foundation of acceleration and finding peak power
-Assisted sprinting vs overspeed: how the distinction changed his approach to max velocity work
-Using the "speed belt" release system
-Assisted warmup drills
-Change of direction development: why cone drills miss and what breaking forces actually require
-Using the 5-0-5, ADA, and multi-directional variations with load

Load-Velocity Profiling and Resisted Swimming | Ryan Keating, Northern Ireland Institute of Sport
Most load-velocity profiling work lives in sprinting on land. But Ryan Keating, Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Northern Ireland Sports Institute, has spent four years applying the same principles in a pool. In this episode he walks through how and why the 1080 Sprint became the centerpiece of his PhD research, what resisted swimming profiling actually looks like in practice, and what the data reveals about swimmers that gym testing simply cannot
The core finding is practical: strength numbers in the weight room don't reliably predict performance in the water. Load-velocity profiling in the pool gives coaches a direct measure of who is strong in their sport environment and who is fast, and those two qualities don't always show up in the same athlete
Topics covered:
-Why gym-based strength and conditioning has limited transfer to swimming
-Load protocols for swimming: 1-5-9kg for males and 1-3-5kg for females
-Why 10 meters of swimming is enough to build a reliable load-velocity profile
-How technique preservation changes load prescription in water
-Using V0 and L0 to identify a swimmer's needs
-Velocity-based feedback in the pool and how athletes self-regulate based on live data
-Assisted swimming and passive drag profiling as an emerging application
-Standardization as the key advantage of the 1080 across international swim programs
The conversation closes with a look at what's still unexplored, including assisted swimming, isokinetics in the weight room for swimmers, and how intervention research needs to catch up with the profiling work already being done
