Ozempic, Mounjaro & Weight Loss: Adam Kay, Dr Joshua Wolrich, Dr Sundhya Raman, Vanessa Sturma, Dr Hosnieh Fathi | Between Bites
Are Ozempic, Mounjaro and GLP-1 weight-loss injections changing our health — or our expectations of how our bodies should look? Bestselling author, comedian and former doctor Adam Kay and Dr Joshua Wolrich, the NHS doctor and weight-neutral health advocate you may know from Instagram, join Dr Sundhya Raman, lifestyle medicine physician, and Vanessa Sturman, nutrition and performance coach, for an unscripted dinner conversation. Between Bites creator and host Dr Hosnieh Fathi brings everyone together to explore obesity, appetite, body image and the pressures surrounding weight loss — with humour, personal experiences and honest disagreements. On the menu: • Ozempic, Mounjaro and GLP-1 medications: Benefits, side effects, long-term questions and what happens when treatment stops. • Food noise, hunger and appetite: What weight-loss injections reveal about biology and willpower. • BMI and metabolic health: Does being thinner necessarily mean being healthier? • Weight stigma and diet culture: How blame, fat shaming and the pursuit of thinness shape our relationship with food. • Lifestyle medicine and medication: Why diet, exercise and medical treatment don’t have to compete. • Eating disorders and body image: Concerns about appetite suppression and access to weight-loss drugs. • Healthy eating on a budget: The role of time, money, cooking skills and health inequality. • AI, personalised nutrition and health misinformation: What deserves our attention — and our scepticism? Plus, a question worth bringing to your own dinner table: can we pursue better health without losing the enjoyment of food and life? What Health & Wellness Gets Wrong — The Uncomfortable Truths
What’s one uncomfortable truth about your field? That simple question opens up one of the most revealing conversations in this episode of Between Bites with Dr Hosnieh Fathi. From food waste and the wellness industry to pharmaceutical research, misinformation, burnout and the pressures facing doctors, the panel explores some of the realities that are often far more complicated than social media makes them appear. Chef Vince Kelly begins with the uncomfortable scale of food waste in hospitality — and why simply composting surplus food does not solve the wider problem. The conversation moves into planning, customer expectations, technology, using more of the ingredients we already have, and changing the way both kitchens and consumers think about waste. Vanessa Sturman turns to another uncomfortable reality: wellness is itself a major commercial industry. While pharmaceutical companies are often criticised for being commercially driven, wellness products, programmes, retreats and online health advice are also being sold to consumers every day. The question becomes less about choosing one “side” and more about learning how to distinguish good evidence from persuasive marketing and misinformation. Dr Hosnieh Fathi brings her experience from both the NHS and pharmaceutical clinical research. She discusses the tension at the heart of pharma: it is a commercial environment, but that commercial investment has also enabled enormous advances in medical research, treatment and drug development. Rather than presenting pharmaceutical medicine and lifestyle health as opposing worlds, the discussion asks whether both can exist together. You can take medication when it is needed and work on nutrition. You can benefit from medical treatment and improve movement, sleep, stress management and other health behaviours. Two things can be true at the same time. The conversation then takes another turn when Dr Safia Debar offers perhaps one of the most personal uncomfortable truths of the discussion: “There are a lot of wounded healers.” Healthcare professionals are expected to care for others while working within environments that can place enormous demands on their own nervous systems, sleep, emotional health and recovery. How can clinicians properly hold space for patients if they are never given the tools or space to regulate themselves? Should healthcare professionals be taught more about recovery, difficult conversations, nervous-system regulation and emotional wellbeing? And how do we build healthcare systems where those caring for others are also able to care for themselves? This episode is ultimately about moving beyond false choices. Medicine or lifestyle. Pharma or wellness. Treatment or prevention. Commercial interests or genuine benefit. Reality is rarely that simple. The challenge is learning to hold more than one truth at the same time — while staying critical of misinformation, commercial influence and overly simplistic health claims. Featuring Dr Hosnieh Fathi — Physician, clinical researcher and health coach Dr Safia Debar — GP, stress expert and breathwork facilitator Vanessa Sturman — Health and nutrition coach and award-winning speaker Chef Vince Kelly — Professional chef and Sustainability Lead at Culinary Medicine UK Between Bites brings different perspectives around one table to explore health, wellbeing and prevention through thoughtful, real-world conversation. Why Is Being Healthy So Hard? Doctors, a Chef & Health Coach Debate What Really Matters
Are we asking too much of people when it comes to their health? We’re constantly told to eat better, exercise more, manage stress, sleep well and make healthier choices — but how much of our health is really down to individual responsibility, and how much is shaped by our environment? In this episode, doctors, a chef and a health coach come together for a wide-ranging conversation about what actually helps people live healthier lives. We explore the tension between personal responsibility and the systems around us, from workplaces and education to food access, social media and the culture of wellness. We also ask why so many of us get caught up worrying about the smallest details — the “right” salt, the “best” cooking oil, the perfect pan or the one food we should avoid — while often overlooking the fundamentals that could make a much bigger difference. The conversation covers: Why healthy choices aren't equally easy for everyone Stress, neuroscience and the body's ability to regulate itself Restoring personal agency without blaming individuals Why health advice can become overwhelming Fibre, beans, vegetables and simple everyday nutrition Cooking skills and making healthy food practical Children's eating habits and the problem with the traditional “kids' menu” Workplace culture and creating healthier environments Why consistency beats perfection The importance of asking why behind our health behaviours Ultimately, this episode asks a bigger question: Are we trying to perfect our health when we should be making it simpler? A practical and thought-provoking conversation about food, behaviour, stress, responsibility and what being healthy actually looks like in real life. If Stress Isn’t the Enemy, What Is? | Between Bites with Doctor Hosnieh Fathi
In this conversation, two doctors, a chef and a coach explore what we often get wrong about stress — why some stress can help us perform, adapt and grow, and why recovery is just as important as the pressure itself. We discuss how stress affects both the mind and body, the importance of rest and recovery, and the small everyday habits that can make a real difference — from movement and breathing to boundaries, food habits and consistency. Rather than trying to eliminate stress completely, what if the goal is to understand it, work with it and recover from it better? Watch the full conversation here: https://youtu.be/YFxS1zpeKuY

Why is protein suddenly in everything? Doctors & experts discuss
See More: https://youtu.be/YFxS1zpeKuY Why does everything suddenly have added protein — and does “high protein” automatically mean healthier? Protein-fortified foods are booming at the same time as consumers are increasingly questioning ultra-processed foods. But are labels such as high protein, vegan and healthy actually helping us make better choices — or simply giving us new reasons to buy? In this Between Bites conversation, clinicians, scientists and food experts debate the growing protein trend, ultra-processed foods, convenience, food manufacturing and the increasingly blurred line between health advice and health marketing. The discussion gets more complicated than “processed food = bad”. Is all processing nutritionally equivalent? When is convenience useful? And how can consumers distinguish a meaningful health claim from a marketing message? Between Bites is about watching experts think — including where they disagree. Prevention or treatment: do we get it wrong? ( listen to full episode online )
What matters more—preventing disease or treating it? In this conversation, two doctors and a chef explore why the answer isn't as simple as choosing one over the other. We discuss the growing role of lifestyle medicine, the importance of prevention, the realities of modern healthcare, and why nutrition, movement, mental wellbeing, and medical treatment all work together to improve long-term health. This discussion also examines: • Prevention vs treatment – are we asking the wrong question? • Why lifestyle medicine is gaining momentum • Food as medicine – where does nutrition fit into healthcare? • The impact of social media on public trust in doctors • Why holistic health means more than just diet or exercise • How genetics, environment, culture, and mental wellbeing all influence health Rather than presenting health as a choice between conventional medicine and lifestyle changes, this conversation explores how both approaches can complement each other to help people live healthier lives. ▶️ Watch the full dinner conversation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFxS1zpeKuY If you enjoy evidence-based conversations about health, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and wellbeing, consider subscribing for more discussions featuring healthcare professionals and experts from different fields.

The dinner conversation you’ll wish you’d joined | Between Bites with Dr Hosnieh Fathi
Between Bites — where the best conversations happen over a shared meal. This time, we gather around a Persian table — sour cherry rice, smoked aubergine, purple carrot cake — and let the conversation run as freely as the food. A lifestyle doctor, a chef, a nutritionist and an integrative-medicine practitioner sit down to trade honest, sometimes uncomfortable views on how we actually get well. Between bites, we get into: 🍽️ Prevention vs treatment — why the "either/or" framing misses the point 🧠 Stress — friend or enemy? Why recovery matters as much as the pressure 🥘 Food as medicine — convenience, cost, and why "expensive" doesn't mean "healthy" 🔁 Habits that stick — the identity shift behind "I'm someone who…" 📱 Wellness noise — protein-maxing, looks-maxing, and following the evidence 🌍 Culture & connection — how the shared table shapes the way we eat and heal A warm, candid and occasionally funny conversation about meeting people where they are — because knowing what's good for us and doing it are two very different things. Pull up a chair. Dinner's ready. Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFxS1zpeKuY

Dr Hosnieh Fathi
Hi, I’m Hosnieh. Welcome to a podcast about living a longer, healthier, and more fulfilling life. For more than 25 years, I’ve worked across healthcare as a hospital doctor, medical leader in clinical research and the pharmaceutical industry, and now as a lifestyle physician and health coach. Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by one simple question: how can we help more people improve their health before illness begins? Each episode explores the science of longevity, wellness, lifestyle medicine, preventive health, healthy ageing, nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and mental wellbeing—always grounded in evidence, yet inspired by the wisdom found in everyday life. I’m endlessly curious about how different cultures, traditions, history, and travel influence the way we eat, move, connect, and care for ourselves. Around the world, people have developed simple, sustainable habits that support health and longevity, and I believe there’s much we can learn from these lived experiences. This podcast brings together evidence-based medicine, practical lifestyle advice, and inspiring conversations with experts and people who have discovered meaningful ways to improve their wellbeing. My goal is to make trusted health information accessible, relatable, and easy to apply in everyday life. I believe that prevention is one of the most powerful forms of medicine, while also recognising the essential role of conventional medicine in diagnosing, treating, and saving lives. Together, these approaches give us the best opportunity to increase not only our lifespan, but our healthspan—the years we live in good health. Whether you’re looking to build healthier habits, improve your energy, support your long-term health, or simply feel your best, I hope you’ll join me as we explore practical, evidence-based ways to live well, stay well, and thrive.
