I was genuinely happy this week, then I opened my phone and it was gone in four seconds.
A classmate's announcement makes Zaid's whole life feel behind. Bilal: you are comparing your uncut footage to his trailer, and it is a heart problem the Qur'an names directly. On not stretching your eyes toward what others were given, looking to the one below you rather than above, and the portion already written that his win cannot take from you.
Referenced: "do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment... the splendour of worldly life, that We may test them by it" (Ta-Ha 20:131); "look at the one below you and do not look at the one above you"; "real richness is the richness of the heart."

The Space Between You: Feeling Unseen in Marriage
Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! (https://rss.com/podcasts/between-two-prayers/voicemail)
My wife and I just do not have time for the two of us anymore, and I do not know when it slipped away.
The spark has dipped under kids, jobs and bills, and Zaid fears something is broken. Safa joins with the other side: when a wife goes quiet it is usually not lost love, it is being tired of feeling unseen, like staff instead of a wife. Bilal on why Allah paired love with mercy, why the dip is the marriage and not the failure, and why presence beats the grand gesture.
Referenced: "and He placed between you affection and mercy" (ar-Rum 30:21); Aisha may Allah be pleased with her that the Prophet peace be upon him was in the service of his family and mended his own clothes; "the best of you is the one best to his family."

Turning Forty: Midlife and Gratitude
Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! (https://rss.com/podcasts/between-two-prayers/voicemail)
Forty next week, and I have been dreading it in a way I cannot explain to my wife.
Zaid feels forty as the line where you stop being the man with potential, half the tank gone on he is not sure what. Bilal turns it over: forty is the one age the Qur'an actually names, the summit and not the sunset, the age the Prophet peace be upon him received revelation. The man in the verse does not stand at forty counting his losses, he starts from gratitude and asks for the things that compound.
Referenced: "when he reaches full strength and reaches forty years, he says, my Lord, enable me to be grateful..." (al-Ahqaf 46:15); the Prophet peace be upon him receiving revelation at forty; the narration that most of this ummah lives between sixty and seventy.

Permission to Rest: When You Feel Guilty for Stopping
Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. (https://rss.com/podcasts/between-two-prayers/voicemail)
This time it's Bilal running on empty — snapping at his wife, everyone's rock, no real rest in longer than he can remember.
So Zaid gives him his own medicine: your body has a right over you. On burnout, rest, the guilt around it, and why the bow that's always drawn eventually snaps.
Referenced: "your body has a right over you… your family has a right over you" (Bukhari); "We made your sleep a rest" (78:9); the balance the Prophet ﷺ lived and taught.

React, scroll, crash, repeat — whole weeks disappearing, and a head that never goes quiet.
Bilal introduces muhasabah — Umar's "hold yourself to account before you are held to account" — plus a five-minute nightly practice to sort the noise from the truth, and the whisper from your conscience. On self-reflection, calibrating your thoughts, and why speed is not direction.
Referenced: Umar's counsel on self-accounting; "the self that reproaches itself" (75:2); the heart that rusts and is polished by remembrance.

The People Who'll Be There When It Falls Apart
Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. (https://rss.com/podcasts/between-two-prayers/voicemail)
Zaid called his mum — and couldn't remember their last real conversation.
The future he's grinding for is meant for the very people getting his leftovers. Bilal on the weight Allah placed right next to worshipping Him — being good to your parents — and why presence costs more than money. On family, parents, and being present before it's too late.
Referenced: "worship Me and be good to parents" and "do not even say 'uff'" (17:23–24); the un-repayable debt to a mother; "the best of you are the best to their families."

Money's a Servant, Not a Master
Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. (https://rss.com/podcasts/between-two-prayers/voicemail)
Zaid finally got the bonus — and feels more anxious, not less.
Bilal reframes wealth as a trust you'll be asked about twice: how you earned it, and how you spent it. On money, halal investing, giving first, barakah over amount, and finally defining "enough."
Referenced: the hadith on being asked about one's wealth; "the servants of the Most Merciful spend neither wastefully nor stingily" (25:67); "charity does not decrease wealth"; Surah At-Takathur.

When They Take Your Spot

The manager who fought for you is gone — replaced by someone you know you're better than. It feels like your future just walked out the door.
Bilal reframes it: your growth was never in that man's hands. Say: O Allah, Owner of all dominion… On career, feeling robbed, contempt, and why no one on earth can withhold what Allah has decreed for you.
Referenced: "Qul, Allahumma Malik al-mulk" (Qur'an 3:26); "la mani'a lima a'tayt" (Bukhari & Muslim); the arc of Yusuf; "perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you" (2:216).

The 2am Mind
Every ache is something serious; every what-if plays like a movie. Zaid hasn't slept in two weeks.
Bilal names it — worry is being punished tonight for something that hasn't happened, and mostly won't — and offers the dua the Prophet ﷺ taught for exactly this. On health anxiety, fear of the future, and why the strength always arrives with the test, never before.
Referenced: "no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow" (31:34); the dua Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan (Bukhari); "Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity" (2:286).

The Fraud in the Room
You got the promotion — and all you can think is, any day now they'll find out you don't belong.
Bilal points to Musa, handed the biggest assignment on earth, whose first response was "send my brother, he speaks better than me." On imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and why feeling too small for the room might be the exact qualification.
Referenced: Musa's plea and the dua "Rabbi ishrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri" (Qur'an 20:25–28); the reminder to return everything to alhamdulillah.

Grief With Nowhere to Go
Three weeks on, and you still reach for the phone to call him.
Someone told Zaid that grieving means his faith is weak. Bilal reminds him that the Prophet ﷺ wept over his own son — grief isn't the opposite of patience; it's love with nowhere to go. On loss, the anger inside grief, and "to Allah we belong, and to Him we return."
Referenced: the Prophet ﷺ weeping for Ibrahim (Bukhari); "patience is at the first strike"; inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (2:156); Yaqub's "I complain only to Allah" (12:86).

The Door That Never Closes
"I did it again — the thing I swore I was done with. What's the point?"
That thought, Bilal says, is the real trap — not the sin. He brings the hadith of the servant who sinned, repented, and returned again and again, and what Allah said back. On shame, relapse, and the mercy that doesn't run out.
Referenced: the hadith "do as you wish, I have forgiven you" (Bukhari & Muslim); Allah's joy at the repentance of His servant; "do not despair of the mercy of Allah — He forgives all sins" (39:53); "the best of those who err are those who repent."

When You Can't Let It G0
He took the credit and walked away clean — and now you replay it every night in the shower.
Bilal shows Zaid the way out through Yusuf, who had every power to destroy the brothers who threw him in a well, and instead said: no blame on you today. On betrayal, anger you can't release, and handing the debt to a fairer court.
Referenced: the story of Yusuf and "La tathreeba alaykumul-yawm" (Qur'an 12:92); the Prophet's ﷺ forgiveness at the conquest of Makkah.

The Loneliest Cit
You ate dinner over the sink again — and realized you hadn't said a word out loud all day.
Everyone thinks Zaid is living the dream; he feels like a ghost. Bilal reframes it through the Hijra — the Prophet ﷺ leaving everything, and "do not grieve, Allah is with us" — and the honour of being a stranger. On loneliness, moving away, and the One who is nearer than your jugular vein.
Referenced: Qur'an 9:40; the cave of the Hijra; "nearer than the jugular vein" (50:16); the hadith of the ghuraba (Sahih Muslim).

When Prayer Feels Empty
"I think I might be a fraud." Zaid prays and feels nothing — and it terrifies him.
Bilal brings the story of Hanzala, a companion who feared he'd become a hypocrite, and what the Prophet ﷺ told him: faith rises and falls — an hour, and an hour. On spiritual numbness, iman that dips, and why the worry itself is proof your heart is still alive.
Referenced: the hadith of Hanzala (Sahih Muslim); a narration that faith wears out in the heart like clothes; "the most beloved deeds are the most consistent, even if small" (Bukhari & Muslim); the dua Ya muqallib al-quloob, thabbit qalbi 'ala deenik.

When the Numbers Won't Let You Sleep
It's 2am, and you've checked your bank balance three times — like the number's going to change.
Zaid is drowning in money worry: the rent, the card, the pressure of being the one everyone leans on — and the exhaustion of pretending he's fine. Bilal, who's been exactly there, sits with him and finds the way through: not "work harder," but tie your camel and trust in Allah — do your part fully, then set down the outcome that was never yours to carry.
On financial anxiety, hustle, and tawakkul — and why your rizq was never coming from the chase.
Referenced: the hadith of the birds who leave empty and return full; "tie your camel and trust in Allah"; Prophet Yusuf's planning (Qur'an 12:47–48); Surah At-Talaq 65:2–3; a dua for provision.
