Welcome to the Beyond Borders world tour.
While much of the media talks about people, we listen to people. Telling the forgotten stories shaping our shared history.
Beyond Borders is a global study of the human experience. An exploration of what unites and divides us, through the eyes of ordinary people living often extraordinary lives.
From Sri Lanka’s former child soldiers, to Greenlandic inuits fighting for justice, and New York’s rat-catchers risking their lives - you can watch our entire back-catalogue of shows here:

Switzerland's Mountains are Falling: Inside our Alpine Shoot
What happens when the Alps start to fall?
In this episode of the Beyond Borders podcast, presenter David Foster and producers Nathalie Kantaris Diaz and Vivienne Dacre take us behind the scenes of their latest documentary "The Alps Are Falling".
From a Swiss village buried beneath millions of tonnes of rock and a glacier disappearing before their eyes, to thunderstorms, treacherous mountain roads, a blown-out tyre and a nerve-racking helicopter ride, the team shares what it was really like making the film.
They also reveal the people they met along the way, from Switzerland's top scientists racing to find ways to stabilise the mountains, to communities determined to stay in the places they call home. It’s the story behind the story: what surprised us, what went wrong, and what we discovered about a landscape being transformed by climate change.

Guns, Bunkers and the Neutrality Myth: Inside Our Switzerland Shoot
Switzerland hasn't fought a foreign war in more than 200 years. So why is it one of the most heavily armed nations in Europe?
The Beyond Borders team goes behind the scenes of its latest documentary, “Courage or Cowardice: Switzerland at War.” Presenter David Foster and producers Nathalie Kantaris Diaz and Vivienne Dacre reveal a country wrestling with its own identity: a shooting festival held on a military base, an advert where a young girl pulls a rifle from her cupboard instead of a toy, and a soldier's startling admission that the army couldn't properly defend the country with the equipment it has.
Then we go deep underground, into Switzerland's labyrinthine bunker network. The family shelter behind a massive steel door, the Cold War fortress carved into a mountainside, and the 11 km stronghold whose private owner surprised us all when asked if he'd shelter his neighbours in a crisis!
Vivienne, who is Swiss and grew up with a bunker under her own home, explains what outsiders get wrong about her country's relationship with guns and neutrality. And we hear how Ukrainians and Palestinians living in Switzerland experience that famous neutrality very differently.
With two referendums looming that could redefine Swiss neutrality forever, this is the story behind the story.

Spain's Unfinished History
Making “Spain's Unfinished History” is the focus of our latest episode of The Beyond Borders Podcast. This is the story behind the documentary, told by the team that made it.
From a Friday conversion ceremony in the shadow of the Alhambra to 1,300-year-old Islamic water systems being restored to fight Spain's climate crisis, the Beyond Borders team reflects on the communities keeping Al-Andalus alive, and the far-right VOX party trying to erase it from Spanish schools.
Spain spent centuries trying to erase the legacy of Al-Andalus. But as the team discovered, history has a way of resurfacing through music, politics, and even the water flowing down the mountains.

Who's Hiring Sweden's Child Killers?
This time on The Beyond Borders Podcast, we go behind the story of Sweden's Child Killers: Victims or Criminals? - the documentary that asks how Sweden's gangs turned children into contract killers, and whether anyone can stop them.
This is what it was actually like on the ground. From a murder scene we arrived at less than 24 hours after a teenager was shot dead outside his home, to a police weapons cache holding 27,000 seized items including grenades, assault rifles, and 3D printed handguns.
Among those we meet are three alleged gang members who agreed to only talk to us in a cold basement. All three had a casualness about violence and criminal behaviour that was difficult to reconcile with how young they were.
We also go inside a community centre that makes a simple argument: £200,000 a year to keep kids off the street, or £700,000 a year to keep one person behind bars. The maths isn't complicated.
And we ask why it's the children of immigrants, not the first generation, who are most at risk of being recruited.
Sweden calls it a national emergency. The age of criminal responsibility has just been lowered to 13. But few think that’s the answer.
The story behind the story.

The Country That Evicts Its Own People
Denmark is one of the happiest places on earth. So why is its government forcing thousands of people out of their homes on account of where they live and who they are?
Adam Charlton and David Foster go inside Denmark's controversial "Parallel Societies" policy - a social experiment that's demolished neighbourhoods and broken up communities. Now it’s being legally challenged as potentially unlawful racial discrimination.
They meet the residents left behind in near-empty tower blocks, the lawyer fighting to bring the whole thing down, and the activists who took 50,000 signatures to Parliament, only to be ignored.
The Danish government calls it integration. The people living through it call it discrimination.
What happens when the state decides your community is the problem?
Watch the full documentary, "Ghetto Blasted: Integration or Discrimination?" and tell us: is this pioneering social policy, or state-sanctioned discrimination?
