With Dr. Danielle Fredette
What's really important?
This podcast is an outlet for my thoughts and questions: things I want my students to think about before they embark upon their adult lives as engineers and leaders in their communities, churches, and families.
These are letters to my students, but everyone is welcome to listen in on our conversation.
The host and students explore ethical ideas within Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive, analyzing characters and their moral choices in this interview episode.

Ep. 7: Onboarding for the Freshman Engineering Student: Dr. Gerry Brown
Today I am speaking with my colleague Dr. Gerry Brown, who will share his advice for prospective college engineering students. Engineering school consists of a jam-packed curriculum full of challenging technical material and high academic expectations, which can create difficult hurdles for aspiring engineers. Knowing what to expect and getting ideas on how to cope could make or break a student's first year, and, therefore, his whole education and career options. If you or someone you love is thinking about giving engineering school a try, give us a listen.

Ep 6: How the COVID Experience Changed Us
Today I will share some of my thoughts on how the COVID experience changed me, changed us, and, perhaps, changed our society. I will review some of the big lies of the COVID-19 response, and things that have changed--the good, the bad, the diabolical, and the cautiously optimistic.

Ep. 5: Why DIE: Objective Reality
Welcome to Beyond Ethics Class. This episode is a conversation about why we think a belief in objective reality is essential to an ethical philosophy consistent with Christianity. After my previous on-air conversation with my colleague Patrick Dudenhofer, I decided we should revisit some of the subtopics we overturned in more detail. The first one is this concept of objective reality.

Ep. 4: Why DIE?
This is (I hope) the first of a series of podcast discussions related to the serious but sometimes nebulous intellectual and spiritual problems I have with a worldview most recently presented to me in the form of D-E-I, "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" ideology, or, appropriately re-ordered, D-I-E, DIE. To get started, I'm going to share a conversation I recorded with my friend and colleague Patrick Dudenhofer. We begin with the question, "Why are we so worked up about DIE?"

Welcome to Beyond Ethics Class.
Today it's "Dr. Fredette reads stuff."
I've chosen some excerpts from a book I've been reading called Happiness is a Serious Problem by Dennis Prager. I am going to read to you a section of the introduction and the first two (very short) chapters, then I will offer my comments.

Ep. 1: Being a Professional: Dr. Michael Scarpone
Episode 1 of Beyond Ethics Class
With Dr. Danielle Fredette.
Today I had the pleasure of sitting down to speak with my father, Dr. Michael Scarpone. He is a sports medicine physician and has dealt with many interesting ethical issues in his career. He has also seen significant changes to the ethical norms promoted by his profession during his time in practice. A similar interview to this one was part of my ethics course content several months ago. The focus was on being a meaningful part of an ethically self-regulating profession. We touched on these and many other issues in our conversation today. Thank you again for joining us, and I hope you find our discussion beneficial.
