Beyond Sunday is a conversation from Azalea City Church of Christ about living faith beyond the weekly gathering. Terry and Justin explore Scripture, community, mental health, relationships, and practical Christian living.
Good intentions aren't the same as follow-through. Terry and Justin walk through Jesus' parable of the two sons in Matthew 21:28-32: one son refuses and then changes his mind, the other promises to go and never does. Alongside Paul's call to finish what you started, James' charge to be doers of the word, and the two builders of Luke 6, they look at why people who love God struggle to follow through, and what to do about it.

Beyond Sunday #13 - Love Requires Honesty
Love requires honesty. Terry and Justin walk through three conversations in order: being honest with yourself, being honest with God, and being honest with others. From David's prayer in Psalm 32, to the invitation of Hebrews 4 to draw near with confidence, to Jesus looking at the rich young ruler and loving him enough to tell him the truth, this episode is about speaking the truth in love.

Beyond Sunday #8 - Is God Listening?
What do we do when we keep praying and the answer seems slow to come? Terry and Justin explore how honest questions can coexist with faith, drawing on Habakkuk, Jacob, and Jesus in Gethsemane. Through personal stories of waiting and grief, they discuss bringing our questions to God, staying connected to others, and continuing to pray when God seems silent.

Beyond Sunday #7 - Everyday Influence
You do not need a title or a platform to make a difference. Terry and Justin welcome Azalea City youth minister Taylor Copeland to talk about everyday influence: showing up for people, helping teenagers build meaningful connections, and recognizing the example we set at home. From phones and social media to service, parenting, and learning from our mistakes, they explore how ordinary moments can point others toward Jesus. This week’s challenge: ask who is influencing you, then choose one person to intentionally encourage.

Beyond Sunday #6 - When Faith Becomes Routine
What happens when devotion becomes obligation?
In Episode 6 of Beyond Sunday, Terry and Justin examine the difference between a healthy spiritual routine and faith that has become mechanical. Daniel prayed regularly, Jesus made time to pray and rest, and the early church developed rhythms of faith but routine was never meant to replace a living relationship with God.
The danger comes when we keep doing the right things while our hearts drift from our first love. If your faith feels stagnant, you do not have to start over. Slow down, examine your heart, return to Christ, and put fuel on the embers so your faith can burn again.
This week's practical challenges:
Ask God to search your heart and reveal where devotion has become obligation.
Choose one familiar spiritual practice and reconnect it to its purpose instead of going through the motions.
Change the time, place, or approach of prayer or Bible reading to re-engage your attention.
Take one active step of faith instead of only thinking about what you believe.
Remember why you first loved Jesus, and chase him - not just the feeling.

Beyond Sunday #5 - Finding Your Place
What if the place God has for you is closer than you think?
In Episode 5 of Beyond Sunday, Terry and Justin explore how everyone can find a place in the body of Christ. This episode is an invitation to stop comparing, use what you have, and be faithful where God has placed you. You do not have to do everything. Use your existing abilities for God, encourage others through your example, and take the next step.
This week's practical challenges:
Ask where your gifts can meet a real need this week.
Stop comparing your role with someone else's.
Use one ordinary skill, resource, or opportunity to serve someone.
Encourage someone younger through the example of your words and actions.

Beyond Sunday #4 - Don't Quit
What do you do when faith feels difficult and quitting starts to sound easier?
In Episode 4 of Beyond Sunday, Terry and Justin explore a hard but hopeful truth: faithfulness is not perfection, and struggling is not failing. Looking at Elijah, David, Jacob, Peter, and other heroes of the faith, they discuss discouragement, doubt, and seasons when God feels distant, and why those seasons do not mean God has abandoned you.
This episode is an invitation to keep going: stay in community, keep praying, remember what God has already carried you through, and focus on today's mile. You do not have to have everything figured out. Hold on to God while you wrestle, and make the decision to press on.
This week's practical challenges:
Tell someone you trust when you are struggling instead of isolating.
Keep showing up, praying, and opening Scripture even when you do not feel like it.
Remember specific times God has carried you through a hard season.
Focus on today's mile rather than carrying tomorrow's fear today.
Hold on to God while you wrestle, and make the decision to press on.

Beyond Sunday #3 - We Want You to Win
What does it really mean to win spiritually?
In Episode 3 of Beyond Sunday, Terry and Justin discuss why the Christian life is not about crossing the finish line first. It is about remaining faithful, encouraging others, and helping more people finish the race with Christ.
Together, they explore how Christians can become encouragers instead of discouragers, celebrate other people’s victories, persevere through difficult days, and develop simple habits that keep God at the center of everyday life.
This week’s practical challenges:
Put God before the world by beginning your day with focused time in Scripture and prayer.
Ask, “Who can I encourage today?” Then call, message, pray with that person.
Find someone to serve.
Replace complaining with gratitude.
End the day by asking: “Where did I see God? Where did I fall short? How can I correct that tomorrow?”
Scriptures discussed:
Revelation 2:10
Psalm 139:23–24
Philippians 1:12
Hebrews 12:1–3
John 8:1–11
Luke 17:32

Beyond Sunday #2 - Community Over Convenience
Have we replaced community with convenience?
In Episode 2 of Beyond Sunday, Terry and Justin discuss how technology, consumerism, busyness, and distraction can quietly isolate us from God and one another.
Together, they explore God’s design for Christian community, the importance of being present in other people’s lives, and how discipleship helps us become more like Christ.
This week’s practical challenges: call, visit, share a meal with, or pray for someone; spend 30 distraction-free minutes fully present with your family; and ask yourself, “What is shaping me, and have I chosen convenience over community?”
Scriptures discussed: Acts 2:42; Matthew 28:19–20; 1 Corinthians 11:1; Romans 12:2.
Beyond Sunday is about carrying our faith beyond the church building and living for Christ every day of the week.
