Dise on Creativity, Entrepreneurship, Lagos & Finding Your Own Path

What happens when an engineering student discovers that her real passion lies somewhere completely different? In this episode of Beyond the Base, we sit down with Dise, a multidisciplinary creative entrepreneur, photographer, designer and content strategist, for a wide-ranging conversation about creativity, ambition, business, adulthood and figuring out what you actually want from life. Dise shares the story of how she moved from studying Engineering at the University of Lagos into the creative industry, and how the problem-solving skills she developed as an engineer eventually became an unexpected advantage in building her creative businesses. We also get into the realities of living and building a life in Lagos; from the rising cost of rent and the hidden costs of setting up a home, to the realities of adulthood and the changing perspective that comes with getting older. But perhaps one of the most interesting parts of the conversation is our discussion about passion and monetisation. In a world where we're constantly encouraged to turn our skills, hobbies and interests into businesses, is everything really meant to be monetised? Or are there some things worth doing simply because they make us happy? Dise also talks about growing her business from a bedroom into a production house and concept store, the lessons she learned through COVID, the importance of exploring different interests before settling into a niche, and why she believes Nigeria's apprenticeship culture could play a much bigger role in closing the gap between education and industry. It's a conversation about changing direction, building something from scratch, growing up, and giving yourself permission to explore. Idy Archibong on Content Creation, Burnout & Finding Peace Online

The internet has never been louder. Every day, we're surrounded by opinions, trends, notifications, expectations, and an endless pressure to keep creating, keep posting, and keep up. But what does all that noise do to us? In this episode of Beyond the Base, we sit down with content creator, YouTuber, and storyteller Idy Archibong for an honest conversation about creativity, burnout, discipline, and finding peace in a world that never seems to slow down. We explore what it really looks like to build a career online. From the unseen work behind every piece of content to the emotional weight of constantly being in front of a camera. Idy shares why discipline matters more than inspiration, how digital detoxes have become an essential part of her creative process, and why having a life outside the internet is one of the healthiest things a creator can do. The conversation also moves beyond content creation. We talk about faith, purpose, heartbreak, healing, and the moments that quietly shape our lives. Idy shares the story of how her relationship with Jesus became deeply personal during university, while we reflect on the unexpected ways God often redirects our paths through seasons we never would have chosen. Whether you're a creator, a student, an entrepreneur, or simply someone trying to find peace in an increasingly noisy world, we hope this conversation encourages you to slow down, think deeply, and live intentionally. And of course, we wrap things up with another chaotic edition of the Munch It Snack Challenge.

Ovie The Stunner on Storytelling, Faith, and the Cost of Expectations

In this episode of Beyond the Base, we sit down with Ovie The Stunner, the content creator, storyteller, and social commentator, for a conversation about creativity, identity, faith, and the responsibility of building influence in the digital age. Ovie shares how growing up as a pastor’s kid shaped the way he observes people and tells stories, the pressure that comes with living up to other people’s expectations, and why authenticity has become one of his greatest strengths as a creator. Together, we explore the art of storytelling, the complexity of online personas, what it really means to be a polymath, and why some of the best creators are simply people who pay close attention to the world around them. We also dive into the realities of working with brands, maintaining the trust of your audience, and Ovie’s advice to aspiring creators: start before you’re ready, fail early, and learn while the stakes are still low. As always, we wrap up the episode with our signature Munch It Snack Challenge, where things get a little less serious and a lot more chaotic. Whether you’re a creator, an entrepreneur, or simply someone trying to navigate purpose and identity, we hope this conversation leaves you with something worth carrying.
