Beyond the Bell Episode 11 – Quarterly Newsletter Review

In this May episode of Beyond the Bell, Patrick Flanagan is joined by Associate Director Wyatt Bentley to provide a review of the Spring 2026 HR Newsletter (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E8EY9wRjH9YwEIMPoyTeZ4pVifWn0nsF/view?usp=sharing). The conversation focuses on transitioning through the end-of-year crunch with tools designed to support both administrators and their staff. A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to a friendly reminder regarding District Policy IX.A.1.c, which governs the employment and supervision of relatives. Patrick and Wyatt clarify that this policy extends beyond formal evaluations to include hiring committees and day-to-day supervision, such as a paraeducator working in a relative's classroom, to ensure all staffing arrangements remain transparent and free from potential conflicts of interest. The episode also highlights two innovative resources for professional growth and administrative efficiency: the "Dignity-First" Feedback Frame and the Investigation Framework Gem. Wyatt explains how the Feedback Frame utilizes the Dignity Index to transform difficult summative evaluations into collaborative partnerships, shifting the language from "failure" to "opportunity." Additionally, they introduce Investigation Framework Gem, a tool designed to help principals translate raw observations into policy-aligned allegations during personnel investigations. By highlighting these resources, the episode reinforces the message that HR is a strategic partner committed to helping principals lead with professionalism, fairness, and dignity.
