Finding Your Footing After a Layoff with Sara McCready | Beyond The Next Move
The morning we recorded this, Stats Canada reported another 68,000 jobs lost in September, and women aged 25 to 54 took the biggest hit. I was laid off from an executive role last year, so headlines like that still stop me for a moment.
Sara McCready, founder of Illuminated Joy, is back to talk about what happens in your body when you read news like this, why high achievers feel job loss as shame, and how to process it before you rush into the next role. We also get into using AI for emotional support, fear-based news, and her Clarity, Confidence and Peace framework. She ends with one simple thing you can do this week.
For anyone who has been laid off, is supporting someone who has, or works in an industry going through cuts.

The Grief After a Layoff | Beyond The Next Move
When my role as Executive Director of Operations was eliminated last year, everyone talked about the resume and the budget. Nobody talked about the grief. In this solo episode, I share what losing a job I didn't see coming really felt like, why so much of who I was had been attached to what I did, and why you can't skip the feelings and go straight to the job search. I also walk you through the circle of control exercise I used with my own coach and now use with my clients. It's simple, and it helped me see I still had more control than I thought. If you've been through a layoff, or you can feel one coming, this one's for you.Chapters0:00 Welcome0:20 The part of a layoff nobody talks about1:02 My role was eliminated2:28 When your job becomes your identity3:53 Why you can't skip the grief4:56 What helped me5:44 The circle of control exercise8:12 If you're going through this right now9:06 Wrap-upI'd love to hear from you.
