Mulumba Lwatula on Scaling Zambia’s Mining Technology | Beyond the Pivot Ep. 29
🚀 In this episode of Beyond the Pivot, we sit down with Mulumba Lwatula, Head of Investments for Mining and Energy at Zambia’s IDC.
With a background spanning digital infrastructure, post-conflict tech consulting, and angel investing, Mulumba steers strategic industrial investments while championing local startup ecosystems.
Beyond the boardroom, he is a technologist, rancher, and passionate photographer.
This conversation explores why mineral wealth without robust governance infrastructure is a liability rather than an asset, and the necessity of building resilient institutions.
Mulumba breaks down how shifting the African narrative away from outdated external perceptions depends entirely on domestic excellence and local delivery.
Mulumba opens up about the massive tech opportunities hiding in plain sight within traditional sectors, why regional capital must bridge early-stage funding gaps, and how Zambia can position itself to lead the global green energy transition.
Sometimes, the ultimate pivot isn’t just about changing your product—it’s about layering innovation onto your nation's historic strengths to claim your space in the global economy.
