MARVEL’S WOLVERINE Spoiler Review — The Hate Is RIDICULOUS

Beyond the Play dives into MARVEL’S WOLVERINE with a full spoiler review and discussion covering the ending, Logan and Jean Grey, Nathaniel Essex, Apocalypse, Team X — and why we think the toxic backlash surrounding Insomniac’s game has gotten ridiculous. FULL MARVEL’S WOLVERINE SPOILERS AHEAD. We finished the entire game. And now it’s time to talk about EVERYTHING. Because Marvel’s Wolverine is not perfect. There are criticisms we completely understand. The hand-holding can be excessive. Some gameplay elements become repetitive. Certain sequences could give the player more control. The side content could have been deeper. And there are pieces of the story and gameplay we absolutely would have changed. But somewhere along the way, legitimate criticism of Marvel’s Wolverine turned into an internet pile-on where individual clips and flaws started being treated like proof that Insomniac somehow made a terrible game. And we just do not agree. Because underneath those flaws is a brutal, focused, cinematic Wolverine game that gave us a fresh version of Logan, an incredible new Jean Grey, some fantastic mutant characters and an engrossing story that left us NEEDING to see where this universe goes next. Marvel’s Wolverine follows Logan as he returns to Team X after years away while Bolivar Trask and the Reavers hunt and capture mutants. But the deeper Logan digs into his forgotten past, the more complicated everything becomes. Nathaniel Essex emerges as one of the game’s most important characters, manipulating Logan’s history and ultimately using Sentinel technology and the Helix Engine as part of his plan to awaken dormant mutants. Then everything gets even crazier. Logan and Jean’s history stretches much further back than either initially remembers. Jean and Logan are repeatedly drawn back together across generations. Apocalypse has been buried inside Logan’s past. Logan was once connected to Apocalypse as DEATH. And after Essex awakens Apocalypse’s influence inside Logan during the finale, Jean is forced to burn that part of Logan’s mind away — taking most of his memories with it. Then the post-credits scene pushes things even further. Sabretooth survives. He finds Apocalypse. And Death’s turn may be over… Because WAR is coming. In our MARVEL’S WOLVERINE spoiler review and discussion, we’re breaking down the entire story, Logan’s characterization, Liam McIntyre’s performance, Jean Grey, Nathaniel Essex, Sabretooth, Mystique, Team X, Trask, the mutant conflict, combat, boss battles, side content, level design, the ending, Apocalypse, the post-credits scene and where Insomniac could take this universe next. We’re also having a much bigger conversation about the reaction to this game. Criticism is GOOD. Developers should hear criticism. But gaming discourse has increasingly reached a point where a game seemingly has to be either a masterpiece or complete garbage. Marvel’s Wolverine has flaws. It’s also really damn fun. Those two statements can exist together. For us, this felt like a throwback to the focused PS3/360-era action games we grew up with, rebuilt with the performances, production values and cinematic storytelling of a modern AAA game. It’s violent. It’s emotional. It’s different. It’s unapologetically Wolverine. And despite the things we would change, we had an absolute blast with it. Marvel’s Wolverine is developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and is available now exclusively on PlayStation 5. FULL SPOILERS throughout this discussion. Did Marvel’s Wolverine deserve the backlash? What did you think of the ending? And where do you want Insomniac’s mutant universe to go next? Let us know down below! #MarvelsWolverine #Wolverine #InsomniacGames #PS5

Playstation State of Play was a WASTE of Time... (Rant/Reaction)

Beyond the Play reacts to the September 2026 PlayStation State of Play—and we’re DISAPPOINTED. Is Sony actually starting to push longtime PlayStation players toward Xbox? Today’s PlayStation presentation actually featured more than 30 games across State of Play and State of Play Japan, including new announcements, release dates, DLC, gameplay updates and trailers. But quantity isn’t really our problem. Our frustration is that after watching the entire thing, we still don’t feel substantially more excited about the FUTURE of PlayStation. There absolutely WERE highlights. Final Fantasy VII Revelation closed the show with an extended gameplay presentation and an April 8, 2027 release date. Marvel’s Wolverine received a new launch trailer ahead of its September 15 release. We saw Metro 2039, Maneater 2, Until Dawn 2, Ghost of Yōtei content, Final Fantasy Resonance, a LEGO PlayStation console and even GTA VI DualSense controllers. Some of that stuff looks GOOD. The problem is: WHERE IS THE BIG PICTURE? We keep waiting for a PlayStation presentation that makes us feel like: “HOLY SHIT, THIS is why I own a PS5.” We want those massive first-party moments. New worlds. Unexpected announcements. A clearer look at what PlayStation Studios is building for the next several years. Instead, today felt dominated by updates, DLC, already-announced games and third-party material. Even Saros appeared primarily through its upcoming Zenith update, while Until Dawn 2 received a January 28, 2027 release date. And this is where our conversation gets uncomfortable: XBOX IS STARTING TO LOOK REALLY INTERESTING TO US. Not because Xbox suddenly “won.” Not because PlayStation suddenly sucks. And DEFINITELY not because we want another stupid console war. We’re talking about where we personally want to invest our time. When we look across gaming right now and start thinking about where certain franchises, services and future games are pulling our attention, Xbox keeps entering that conversation more often. That shouldn’t be happening because we WANT PlayStation to be incredible. We grew up loving these consoles. We WANT Sony to come out swinging. We want State of Play to end and immediately start texting each other: “DID YOU FUCKING SEE THAT?!” Instead, after today? We mostly looked at each other and went: “…that was it?” Even the excellent-looking Final Fantasy VII Revelation deep dive—which showed expanded exploration using the Highwind, grapple guns and chocobos—couldn’t completely erase that feeling because it’s a Square Enix game we already knew was coming. So this episode of Beyond the Play becomes less of a traditional recap and more of a RANT & RAMBLE about the current identity of PlayStation. What did today’s State of Play actually accomplish? What announcements worked? What fell completely flat for us? Why aren’t these presentations creating the same excitement anymore? What exactly are we waiting for from Sony? And the biggest question: HAS PLAYSTATION ACTUALLY GOTTEN US TO THE POINT WHERE WE’RE CONSIDERING SHIFTING MORE TOWARD XBOX? Tell us where YOU stand. Were you satisfied with today’s State of Play? Or did you finish it feeling exactly like we did? #PlayStation #StateOfPlay #PS5 #Xbox #Gaming ⸻ I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR: This is NOT: “XBOX GOOD. PLAYSTATION BAD.” That shit is exhausting. There were games we liked today. Final Fantasy VII Revelation looks AWESOME. Wolverine is almost here. Metro 2039 has our attention. But when the entire State of Play ended? Our reaction was basically: THAT WAS IT?! And the bigger issue is that we keep waiting for PlayStation to show us why we should be incredibly excited about its FUTURE. Instead, Xbox is somehow becoming more tempting to us. So let’s actually discuss it: Did today’s State of Play disappoint YOU? And right now— PLAYSTATION OR XBOX: which platform’s future excites you more?

Xbox Disc to Digital BEATS Playstation + GTA 6 Might Be Game of the Decade...

Beyond the Play is back to discuss Xbox’s newly announced disc-to-digital program, the latest reported GTA 6 leaks, and why Grand Theft Auto VI is already shaping up to be one of the biggest Game of the Year conversations of 2026. Xbox has officially revealed a new feature that allows players to insert supported physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X games and claim a digital entitlement tied to that disc. Xbox Insiders begin testing the feature August 31, with thousands of games expected to be supported. For physical collectors, game preservation, Xbox Play Anywhere, and cloud gaming, this could become one of the coolest features Xbox has introduced in years. We also dive into the ongoing GTA 6 leak situation. Unauthorized footage has continued appearing online ahead of launch, with the group behind some of the reported leaks even threatening to release major story spoilers. Rockstar has not confirmed the authenticity of every piece of leaked material, so we’re discussing the situation itself rather than treating every alleged leak as fact. Then there’s GTA 6 itself. Rockstar’s massive Extended Look finally gave us a much deeper look at Jason, Lucia, Vice City, combat, exploration, and the scale of the open world—and the response has only pushed the hype higher. GTA VI is currently set to release November 19, 2026. In this episode of Beyond the Play, we debate whether Xbox’s disc-to-digital idea could change how physical games work going forward, what these GTA 6 leaks mean for Rockstar and players trying to avoid spoilers, and whether GTA 6 is already looking like the game everyone else will have to beat for Game of the Year. Is Xbox’s disc-to-digital program something you would actually use—and do you already have GTA 6 as your GOTY frontrunner?

Marvel’s Wolverine – Our 3 MASSIVE Predictions for Insomniac’s Game

What if Marvel’s Wolverine is hiding something MUCH bigger than we realize—and Insomniac is about to give us Hulk vs. Wolverine, Magneto recruiting Logan, or the beginning of their own X-Men? On this episode of Beyond The Play, we’re diving into everything we currently know about Marvel’s Wolverine and giving our 3 MASSIVE BOLD PREDICTIONS for what could actually happen in Insomniac’s upcoming game. And there is A LOT to talk about. Insomniac has continued revealing more about Logan’s story, including the game’s brutal combat, Jean Grey, the larger mutant world, locations including Madripoor, Canada and Japan, and Logan’s complicated history with Team X. The official prequel comic also explores Team X and its mission to protect mutantkind. The game releases September 15 on PlayStation 5, so we’re getting dangerously close to finally seeing how all these pieces connect. But this episode is about going beyond what Insomniac has confirmed. We’re making THREE massive predictions. Could we actually see HULK VS. WOLVERINE? That is one of the most iconic matchups in Wolverine history. Logan literally debuted in The Incredible Hulk, so giving players a massive Hulk boss fight would be an incredible way for Insomniac to honor that history while delivering a fight completely different from anything we’ve seen in their Marvel universe. Then there’s Magneto. With mutants becoming increasingly important to Insomniac’s universe, could Magneto appear and attempt to recruit Logan? Logan is exactly the type of mutant Magneto could potentially view as an ally: powerful, angry, persecuted, and someone who has experienced firsthand what humanity is capable of doing to mutants. And what if all of this is secretly building toward something even bigger? The X-Men. We already know Jean Grey plays a major role in the game, and Insomniac is clearly building out a larger mutant corner of its Marvel universe. Could Marvel’s Wolverine ultimately become the foundation for an Insomniac X-Men game? In this episode of Beyond The Play, we discuss the latest Marvel’s Wolverine information, Logan’s story, Insomniac’s Marvel universe, Jean Grey, Team X, the mutant mythology, and our three bold predictions for the game. Some might happen. Some might be completely insane. But if even ONE of these happens… We are going to lose our minds. What is YOUR boldest prediction for Marvel’s Wolverine? Most Anticipated Games for the Rest of 2026 | Beyond the Play Ep. 7

The rest of 2026 gaming looks absolutely stacked. Welcome back to Beyond the Play! In Episode 7, we’re diving into our most anticipated games for the rest of 2026, and this year is not slowing down at all. From massive open-world releases to brutal superhero action, long-awaited Xbox comebacks, stylish action games, fighting games, remakes and new franchise entries, the back half of 2026 could be one of the biggest stretches gaming has had in years. In this episode, we talk about the games we cannot wait to play, the ones we’re cautiously optimistic about, and the releases that could completely take over the gaming conversation. Of course, we have to talk about Grand Theft Auto VI, which is now set to launch on November 19, 2026 according to Rockstar Games. GTA 6 is not just one of the biggest games of 2026 — it is one of the most anticipated games of all time, and the question now is whether it can possibly live up to the insane level of hype. We also dive into Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac’s upcoming single-player action-adventure game launching on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. After what Insomniac has done with Spider-Man, Wolverine feels like the next massive Marvel gaming moment, especially with a darker, bloodier, more brutal Logan-focused story. On top of that, we talk about games like Phantom Blade Zero, Marvel TOKON: Fighting Souls, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and so much more. Halo: Campaign Evolved is especially interesting because it is a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, with reporting pointing to a 2026 release and a major multiplatform moment for the franchise. This episode is all about the biggest gaming questions left in 2026: Which game are we most hyped for? Can GTA 6 possibly meet expectations? Is Marvel’s Wolverine about to become one of the best superhero games ever made? Can Gears of War: E-Day bring the franchise back in a huge way? Is Halo: Campaign Evolved the right move for the future of Halo? Could Phantom Blade Zero be the stylish action game that surprises everyone? And is Marvel TOKON: Fighting Souls about to give Marvel fans a fighting game worth obsessing over? In this Beyond the Play Episode 7 podcast, we break down our most anticipated games for the rest of 2026, discuss the state of PlayStation, Xbox and Marvel gaming, and debate which upcoming releases we think could dominate the rest of the year. Games discussed in this episode include: Grand Theft Auto VI Marvel’s Wolverine Phantom Blade Zero Marvel TOKON: Fighting Souls Halo: Campaign Evolved Gears of War: E-Day And more upcoming 2026 games If you’re looking for most anticipated games 2026, best upcoming games 2026, GTA 6 discussion, Marvel’s Wolverine reaction, Gears of War E-Day discussion, Halo Campaign Evolved reaction, Phantom Blade Zero preview, Marvel TOKON Fighting Souls, gaming podcast, PlayStation podcast, Xbox podcast, or a video game podcast that talks gaming news, reactions, reviews and hype, make sure to subscribe to Beyond the Play. GTA 6 Preorders, No Disc, and PlayStation Killing Physical Games | EP. 6

Beyond the Play is back, and this episode dives into one of the biggest conversations happening in gaming right now: GTA 6, physical media, digital ownership, PlayStation’s future, Xbox layoffs, and what all of this means for players and collectors. In this episode, we break down the latest around Grand Theft Auto VI preorders, Rockstar’s physical version being a box with a download code inside, and why that has sparked so much debate among gamers who still care about owning physical games. Rockstar says digital preorders allow pre-loading on November 12 ahead of the November 19, 2026 launch, while the physical version available November 12 contains a download code inside the box rather than a disc. That opens up a much bigger conversation. Are physical games actually dying? Are we moving into a future where “physical copies” are just empty boxes with codes? What does that mean for game preservation, collectors, reselling, lending games to friends, and actually owning the media we pay for? We also dive into PlayStation’s reported move away from physical media. Reuters reported that Sony plans to stop producing physical discs for all new PlayStation games starting January 2028, with new releases moving to digital distribution through the PlayStation Store and digital retailers. That is massive. For years, players have debated digital convenience versus physical ownership, but now the industry seems to be pushing harder than ever toward a future where the disc drive becomes less important, ownership becomes more complicated, and preservation becomes a bigger concern. Then we get into GTA 6 pricing theories, preorder editions, whether Rockstar can get away with charging more than the normal premium game price, and what this could mean for the entire AAA gaming industry. GTA 6 is not just another release — it is the game every other publisher is watching. And of course, we also talk about what is happening with Xbox.

Playstation LOST to XBOX!? | Ep.5

Xbox may have won showcase season—but was it a genuine comeback or another perfectly edited promise? In the latest episode of Beyond the Play, Zach Pope and CBK Keenan break down everything revealed across the Xbox Games Showcase, Summer Game Fest, and Nintendo Direct, including the biggest announcements, surprises, disappointments, and games that completely changed our most-anticipated lists. The main event is Gears of War: E-Day. After getting a massive new look at Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, Emergence Day, and the beginning of the Locust invasion, we discuss why E-Day could become the defining Xbox release of this generation. We also dive into the widely discussed report that the game could carry a budget approaching $400 million—a number that has not been officially confirmed by Microsoft, but one that would place an enormous amount of pressure on The Coalition and Xbox. Can Gears of War: E-Day justify that level of spending? More importantly, can it become the exclusive Xbox desperately needs? On presentation alone, Xbox delivered one of the strongest showcases of the summer. The lineup had scale, variety, returning franchises, new games, and the kind of momentum fans have been waiting years to see. It finally felt like Xbox had a clearer identity and a reason for players to believe again. But trailers are not enough. Xbox has delivered great showcases before. The real challenge has always been execution, release quality, consistency, studio management, and maintaining trust once the lights go down. So while Xbox may have won the summer presentation battle, the bigger question is whether any of this momentum will translate into actual long-term success. We also break down Summer Game Fest, Nintendo’s latest Direct, the games that surprised us, the announcements that fell flat, and which company gave players the strongest reason to be excited about the future. In this episode: Did Xbox win showcase season? Gears of War: E-Day’s new footage and presentation The reported $400 million development budget Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago returning The beginning of the Locust War Why E-Day may be Xbox’s most important game Whether Xbox’s comeback is real or just great marketing The biggest Summer Game Fest announcements Nintendo Direct’s strongest reveals Which showcase had the best overall lineup Our most anticipated games coming out of the summer events What Xbox still needs to prove Xbox may have won the showcase—but now it has to deliver.
