About Beyond the Surface with Sarah L. Whyte
Beyond the Surface with Sarah L. Whyte is a space for honest conversations about the parts of life we don't always talk about. The fear underneath the overthinking. The uncertainty behind the big decisions. The changes we didn't expect. The questions we can't always answer. And the moments that ask us to look deeper at who we are, what we want, and where we're going next. Sarah L. Whyte is an author, meditation instructor, entrepreneur, and wellness expert exploring nervous system regulation, anxiety, spirituality, intuition, meditation, life transitions, personal growth, and the real experiences that shape our lives. Some episodes will give you practical tools you can use in your everyday life. Others will invite you into deeper conversations and personal stories about navigating change, trusting yourself, and discovering what might be possible when life doesn't unfold according to plan. Because there's almost always more happening beneath the surface. And sometimes, that's exactly where we need to look.

I Said Yes! The Love Story I Never Saw Coming
I'm engaged!! On October 22, 2026, the love of my life asked me to marry him in Belize, at the very property we've spent the last several years building together. And of course, I said YES! What makes this moment so special is that our love story began in Belize five years ago, completely unexpectedly. In July 2021, I was living in Coronado, California, and Kevin was living in Atlanta, Georgia. I had recently purchased land in Belize and was visiting a house completed by a builder I was considering working with. And there Kevin was, staying in that very house. Who would have thought that a simple visit to look at a house would lead me to my future husband? In this very personal episode of Beyond the Surface, I'm sharing our love story, the years of traveling between the East and West Coasts, our decision to build Belize Seaside Casitas together, and the magical moment Kevin proposed. I'm also sharing why I waited my whole life to marry the right man, what Kevin has taught me about true love, and why I couldn't be more excited to grow old with my best friend. Five years later, we're planning our June 2027 wedding, and I can't wait to become his wife. Sometimes the most beautiful chapters of our lives begin when we least expect them. Thank you for celebrating this special moment with me! The Truth About Friendships as We Get Older
I've always been someone who has had a lot of friends and acquaintances throughout my life. I love meeting people, connecting, and building relationships. But as I've gotten older, something has changed. My circle of trust has gotten smaller, and I've become much more intentional about who I let into my life. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I'm sharing what I've learned about friendships as we get older, why having a lot of friends doesn't necessarily mean having meaningful friendships, and what true friendship looks like to me today. I'm talking about those rare friends who show up when life gets difficult. The ones who will drop everything when you need them, randomly bring you flowers to brighten your day, celebrate your happiness, and know you well enough to recognize when something isn't right. We also get into trust, gossip, negativity, and why I've learned to pay attention to how people talk about others. Because I've come to realize that I can genuinely enjoy someone's company without needing to invite them into my closest circle. And of course, we're talking about friendships that change over time, the ones that last a lifetime, and why being a good friend matters just as much as finding one. Because the older I get, the more I appreciate the people who genuinely know me, love me, and show up for me. If you've noticed your friendships changing as you've gotten older, I think you'll really connect with this conversation. New episodes of Beyond the Surface every week.

How You Start Your Morning Changes More Than You Think
I've become pretty protective of my mornings over the years, and there's a reason for that. I used to think a morning routine needed to involve all the things we're constantly told we should be doing. Wake up early, exercise, journal, meditate, drink the lemon water, and somehow have your entire life together before 8 a.m. But what I've learned is that the way we begin our mornings has a lot less to do with how much we accomplish and a lot more to do with how we feel as we move through the rest of our day. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I'm sharing how meditation became part of my life during one of my most difficult seasons, why I've continued that practice for years, and how a few intentional minutes in the morning can change your relationship with yourself. We're also talking about the habit of reaching for our phones before we've even gotten out of bed, why consistency matters more than having a perfect routine, and how to create a morning practice that actually works for your life. Because your morning doesn't need to be complicated to make a difference. Start Your Morning With The Inner Return I created The Inner Return because I wanted to make it easier to build the kind of daily practice that has made such a difference in my own life. When you open the app, your Daily Dashboard is right there waiting for you. Check in with how you're feeling, choose a guided meditation, explore breathwork or nervous system practices, or spend a few minutes journaling. Everything is in one place, so you can spend less time figuring out what to do and more time actually doing it. And there's no monthly subscription, just one payment for lifetime access. When Did Everyone Else’s Opinion Become More Important Than Your Own
How much power have you given other people’s opinions over the way you see yourself and the decisions you make? In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m sharing a story from my own life that I also wrote about in my book, Hey You! Be Your Authentic Self. When I was younger, someone told me I would never amount to anything. And instead of recognizing those words for what they were, someone else’s opinion, I carried them with me for years. That experience taught me something I understand very differently today: someone can have an opinion about your life without actually knowing what’s right for your life. We’re talking about why we give certain people so much authority over our decisions, the difference between valuing someone’s perspective and needing their approval, and how asking too many people what they think can sometimes pull us further away from what we already know. I also share how my relationship with self-trust has changed over the years. For me, trusting myself doesn’t mean believing I’ll always make the right decision. It means knowing I can make my own decisions, learn from them, change direction when I need to, and handle what happens next. Because not everybody gets a vote in your life. And even the people who do don’t get the final one. Read Hey You! Be Your Authentic Self I go much deeper into my own journey with authenticity, other people’s opinions, finding my voice and learning to trust myself in my book, Hey You! Be Your Authentic Self. If this episode connected with you, the book is a beautiful place to continue the conversation. → Get your copy of " (https://sarahlwhyte.thrivecart.com/authenticselfbookbundle/ )Hey You! I Used to Blame Everyone Else for Crossing My Boundaries
For a long time, I was frustrated with people in my life because I felt like everyone expected something from me. I was the person who handled things. I showed up. I helped. I said yes. And then I would get resentful. Eventually, I had to face a realization I really didn’t enjoy: I was angry with people for crossing boundaries I had never actually communicated. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m getting into my own history with people pleasing, why saying yes can feel easier than disappointing someone, and how I learned that caring about someone’s feelings doesn’t mean I’m responsible for making sure they’re never upset with me. We talk about resentment, uncomfortable conversations, over-explaining your decisions, learning to say no, and what happens in relationships when you stop being the person who always accommodates everyone else. Because boundaries aren’t about controlling another person. They require us to get honest about what works for us and then be willing to actually say it. And yes, sometimes people won’t like it. I’ve learned to be okay with that. From My Book I talk more about my own journey with boundaries, people pleasing, finding my voice and learning to live more authentically in my book, Hey You! Be Your Authentic Self. How Much of Your Life Are You Actually Experiencing?
How often are you physically somewhere, but mentally already onto the next thing? I’ve realized something about myself: I’m a future person. I love having something to work toward, something I’m creating, somewhere I’m going. But when you’re always looking ahead, you can get really good at living six months ahead of your actual life. And I don’t want to spend years building a life only to realize I wasn’t fully there for it. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m talking about our tendency to constantly look toward what’s next, how quickly we move past the things we once wanted so badly, and the ordinary moments we often don’t recognize as meaningful until they’re gone. I also share something losing my dad taught me about time and why some of the moments I would give anything to experience again aren’t the big milestones. They’re the completely ordinary ones I probably didn’t think twice about when they were happening. This isn’t about giving up your goals or pretending the future doesn’t matter. I’m still going to dream, create, plan and work toward things I want. I just don’t want nostalgia to be the first time I appreciate my own life. Because the life you’re working so hard to create is also the life that’s happening right now. Explore Inner Return (https://theinnerreturn.net ) If you want to create more space in your day to check in with yourself and actually be present for your life, I created Inner Return as a place to do exactly that. Why Do I Feel Guilty When I Am Not Doing Anything?
Have you ever finally had a free afternoon, sat down to relax... and within minutes found yourself looking for something else to do? I know I have. For a long time, I thought I was resting simply because I wasn’t technically working. Meanwhile, I was checking my phone, thinking about what needed to happen next, catching up on something, or finding another way to be productive. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m talking about why rest can feel so uncomfortable when you’ve spent years being productive, accomplishing, creating, helping, and always looking toward what’s next. We’ll get into the guilt that can show up when you slow down, our relationship with productivity, why your nervous system can become accustomed to constant stimulation, and something I’ve been asking myself lately: When did getting things done become the measure of whether I had a good day? Because at some point, we have to actually experience the life we’ve spent so much time building. Why Do We Wait Until We’re Completely Overwhelmed to Take Care of Ourselves?
Why is it that we can feel ourselves getting tired, irritated, disconnected, or overwhelmed… and still keep going? We tell ourselves we’ll slow down after this week or we will take care of ourselves when everything else is handled. And then eventually our body makes the decision for us. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m talking about something I’ve had to look at in my own life: why so many of us wait until we’re completely depleted before we start paying attention to ourselves. Because taking care of yourself shouldn’t only happen when you’ve reached the point where you can’t keep going the way you have been. We’re talking about recognizing the earlier signals, understanding why it can feel so difficult to respond to them, and learning to check in with yourself before overwhelm takes over. In this episode, we explore: • Why we tend to push past the early signs of overwhelm • What happens when being productive becomes our normal way of operating • The signals your body may be giving you long before you reach your limit • Why self-care can become something we postpone • Learning to respond to yourself earlier instead of waiting until you’re depleted • Small ways to support your nervous system throughout your everyday life You shouldn't have to reach your breaking point before you decide that you matter too. Access The Nervous System Reset Vault (https://sarahlwhyte.thrivecart.com/the-nervous-system-reset-vault/ ) If you want simple practices you can use throughout your day instead of waiting until anxiety or overwhelm takes over, I created the Nervous System Reset Vault with 20 body-based practices designed to help you reconnect with your body and regulate your nervous system. Why Do We Stay When We Know It’s Time to Go?
Sometimes you already know. You know the relationship has changed, the career doesn’t fit anymore or the friendship feels different. The version of your life you worked so hard to create doesn’t feel like yours anymore. And yet, you stay. Not necessarily because you want to, but because leaving means stepping into something you can’t see yet. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m talking about that space between knowing something has run its course and actually being willing to let it go.We’ll talk about why familiarity can feel safer than uncertainty, why we can spend so much time waiting for one more sign or one more piece of reassurance, and what happens when you begin trusting what you already know. Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t realizing it’s time to go. It’s accepting that you may not know exactly what comes next. In this episode, we explore: • Why we stay long after something stops feeling right • The fear underneath letting go • How your body can respond to uncertainty and change • The difference between needing more clarity and being afraid to act on the clarity you already have • Learning to trust yourself when you can't see the entire path ahead If you're standing at the edge of a change right now, this conversation is for you. Access The Inner Return to go deeper with yourself ( https://theinnerreturn.net ) If fear, anxiety or overwhelm tends to take over when you're navigating change, I created the The Inner Return for you to take care of yourself through guided somatic practices, meditations, breathwork and reflection. Are You Asking for a Sign or Ignoring the One You Already Got?
Have you ever asked the universe for a sign… only to wonder if the sign has already been there all along? In this episode of Beyond the Surface, we’re going deeper into signs, synchronicities, intuition, and what it means to trust the guidance showing up in our lives. I’m sharing my own experience with the repeating numbers 444, 888, and 999 and why they’ve felt especially meaningful during this season of my life. From choosing abundance as my word for 2026 to navigating the ending of one chapter and stepping into another, these signs have become reminders I hold close to my heart. But this conversation goes beyond angel numbers. We’ll talk about the difference between looking for signs to make our decisions for us and allowing them to bring us back to what we may already know. I also share how my daily practice inside Inner Return helps me create the space to listen, reconnect, and trust that what I need that day will meet me there. Maybe the sign isn’t here to tell you what to do. Maybe it’s reminding you to listen. What If the Life You Worked So Hard For Isn't What You Want Anymore?
What happens when you finally build the life you thought you wanted… and realize you don’t want it anymore? That can be a hard thing to admit. Especially when you’ve spent years building it. When you’ve invested your time, energy, identity, and so much of yourself into getting here. Because walking away from something that isn’t working is one thing. Questioning something you worked incredibly hard to create is another. In this episode of Beyond the Surface, I’m talking about what it feels like when the life you built no longer feels like the life you want to keep living. We talk about the guilt that can come with wanting something different, the fear of changing direction, and why we can stay attached to an old version of our lives simply because of everything it took to create them. I also share why these moments can create so much anxiety and uncertainty, and why your instinct may be to turn outward and ask everyone else what you should do instead of listening to what’s happening within you. This episode is for you if you’ve found yourself thinking: I should be happy. I worked so hard for this. Why isn’t this enough anymore? What if I change my mind? What if I want something completely different now? You are allowed to ask yourself what you want now, even if the answer is different from what you wanted five years ago, two years ago, or even six months ago. And if anxiety or overwhelm tends to take over when you’re navigating change, I created the Nervous System Reset Vault (https://sarahlwhyte.thrivecart.com/the-nervous-system-reset-vault/ ), with simple body-based practices designed to help you regulate in the moments you need support most. When Your Body Doesn't Feel Safe: What to Do When Fear, Anxiety & Overthinking Take Over
Have you ever known logically that you're okay, but your body doesn't seem to believe you? In this first episode, we're going beneath the surface of what happens when fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and overthinking take over. I share something I've been noticing in my own life: when fear shows up, we often turn outward. We Google. We scroll. We ask other people what they think. We plan, research, replay conversations, and try to figure out what's going to happen next. But sometimes what we're searching for isn't another answer. We're searching for the feeling of being safe again. In this episode, we'll talk about the difference between turning outward and turning inward, why your mind can continue searching for certainty when your nervous system is activated, and how simple body-based practices can help bring you back to what's actually happening right now. We'll explore why you don't need to solve your entire future in this moment, how to recognize when fear is pulling you into imagined outcomes, and a simple practice you can use when you notice yourself beginning to spiral. Because the goal isn't to never experience fear or anxiety. It's learning what to do when they show up. Ready to put this into practice? I created the Nervous System Reset Vault with 20 simple, body-based practices you can use when you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, activated, or caught in overthinking. Access the Nervous System Reset Vault (https://sarahlwhyte.thrivecart.com/the-nervous-system-reset-vault/ ) If this episode speaks to you, come back and listen whenever you notice yourself searching outside yourself for certainty. Sometimes the next answer isn't farther out. Sometimes it's beneath the surface.
