Episode 114: When Allegiances Collide | Matthew 10:34–39Jesus said He did not come to bring peace, but a sword. He said families would be divided. He told His disciples that anyone who loves father or mother more than Him is not worthy of Him—and then He told them to take up their cross and follow. Those are some STRONG words. So…what exactly is Jesus saying? In Episode 114 of Bible StudTea, we're spilling the tea on Matthew 10:34–39 and unpacking what happens when following Jesus puts us at odds with the people, expectations, relationships, and even the life we want to hold onto.Jesus isn't saying that He came to destroy families or that Christians should go looking for conflict. He's preparing His disciples for a reality of following Him: allegiance to Jesus can cost you something.Sometimes obedience to Christ will be welcomed. Other times, it may create tension—even with people we love. We'll walk through this passage verse by verse and talk about:• What Jesus meant when He said, “I have not come to bring peace, but a sword”• Why following Jesus can create division• What it means to love Jesus more than even our closest relationships• What Jesus meant by taking up your cross• The difference between causing conflict and experiencing conflict because of obedience to Christ• Why surrendering your life to Jesus is actually where true life is foundMatthew 10:34–39 reminds us that Jesus isn't looking to tear families apart. He's preparing His disciples for what allegiance to Him can cost—and telling them ahead of time that **He is worth the cost.So grab your Bible, grab your tea, and pull up a seat. ☕️📖The question isn't whether we love Jesus it'it's what happens when our allegiance to Jesus collides with everything else.Matthew 10:34–39

Have No Fear
What does Jesus mean when He tells His followers, “Have no fear”?In Matthew 10:26–33, Jesus is preparing His disciples for opposition, rejection, and persecution—but His message isn’t that difficult things won’t happen. His message is that fear doesn’t have to rule them when they do.In this episode of Bible StudTea, we walk verse by verse through Jesus’ words and unpack what they meant for the disciples—and what they mean for followers of Jesus today. We’re talking about the difference between fearing people and fearing God, what the “fear of the Lord” actually means, why Jesus tells His disciples to proclaim openly what He has revealed to them, and the incredible reassurance found in knowing that God sees, knows, and deeply values His children.Hard seasons will come. People may misunderstand you. Obedience may cost you something. But Jesus reminds us that our confidence isn’t found in avoiding difficulty—it’s found in knowing who holds us in the middle of it.So grab your Bible, pour your tea, and pull up a seat.
Scripture: Matthew 10:26–33Tea Points:• Fear of people should never outweigh our obedience to God.• The fear of the Lord is reverence, awe, and recognizing that God has the highest authority.• What God reveals should not remain hidden.• God sees what others don't.• You are known, seen, and deeply valued by your Father.• Following Jesus may cost us something—but fear does not get to lead us.Welcome to the table. There’s always a seat for you here.

The Safest Place Is With the Shepherd
In this episode of Bible StudTea, we study Matthew 10:16–25, where Jesus prepares His disciples to be sent out as sheep among wolves.Jesus does not hide the challenges they will face. He tells them about opposition, rejection, persecution, and betrayal, while also teaching them how to respond with wisdom, innocence, endurance, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.Through this passage, we discover the honesty and integrity of Jesus. He never manipulates people into following Him or hides the cost of discipleship. He lovingly prepares His followers so that hardship will not cause them to believe that something has gone wrong. This study also explores the difference between acknowledging that something hurts and allowing pain to pull us away from God. Saying “ouch” does not mean we lack faith. We can honestly admit that a season is heavy while continuing to trust the Shepherd. One of the central revelations from this episode is:The safest place is not always the place without wolves. The safest place is wherever the Shepherd has called us to be.Although this passage specifically addresses the persecution of the disciples, it reveals the character of the same Jesus who remains faithful through financial pressure, parenting, homeschooling, uncertainty, grief, and every difficult season of life.Jesus tells the truth. He prepares His people. He equips them. He walks before them. And He continually shows us that He is worthy of our trust.Scripture: Matthew 10:16–25
