About Biblical Insights with Pastor Patt

"Disciplines of a Godly Man" is a podcast dealing with issues that are plaguing the church today. We have thrown out the only possible chance we have to bring sanity back to this depraved planet, that's God. Our culture took a dramatic decline once we removed God from the public square. A revival happened in the 60's, "The Jesus Movement," it can happen again today. But to have a true revival, we have to have true repentance. The Church needs to take a stand and not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

From addiction to Faith, My Journey to God. Ep.2

A Journey to Faith Daniel Cook and Patt Fisk unpack Pat’s testimony, tracing a life shaped by addiction, family loss, military service, marriage, grief, and eventually a slow, hard turn toward Christ. This is a personal story about how God keeps pursuing someone through hardship, unexpected moments, and spiritual correction. They discuss how Patt moved from drugs and alcohol to discipleship, how his brother’s death became a turning point, and how church, mentorship, and obedience reshaped his life over time. Key topics Patt shares that his early years were marked by smoking cigarettes at 12, using marijuana at 13, heavy metal culture, and a sense of being the family black sheep. He describes growing up without faith in the home, while noticing that his brother Mark—who became a believer early—lived differently. Patt reflects on joining the Army at 19, encountering drugs in the barracks, and returning home to the same cycle of drinking and drug use. He tells the story of meeting his wife in 1993 and how their relationship began during a difficult season. Patt talks about trying recovery without fully committing to it, including continuing to use marijuana while stopping drinking. He recounts his brother Mark’s leukemia diagnosis in 1995 and learning that he was a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant. Patt shares moments from his brother’s illness, including a deep sense of peace by Mason Lake and a hospital vision in which a nurse told him everything would be okay. He describes his brother’s death in June 1996 as the beginning of his spiritual journey, though he continued masking his grief with alcohol and marijuana for years. Patt recalls a church experience that seemed to address his struggles with drugs and alcohol directly. He explains how pastors and mentors helped him study scripture, grow in faith, and eventually prepare for ministry. Patt reflects on losing his home and possessions, the role of materialism in his life, and how those losses contributed to a humbling turning point. He shares how years of mentorship under Phil Fernandez shaped his work in apologetics, teaching, and pastoral ministry. Patt describes leaving a longtime church over a matter of conviction, risking a significant loss of income, and learning to trust God through the transition. He recounts unexpected financial provision and finding a new church community at Grace Point. The conversation closes with reflections on discipleship, mentoring, men’s Bible study, and the importance of getting involved in church life. Timestamps Reflection and discussion How can grief and hardship change the direction of a person’s life? What role can mentors and church community play in someone’s growth? What does trusting God look like when a decision comes with real financial risk? What practical steps help someone move from attending church to becoming connected and supported?
