Big Fish Little Place Podcast tells the stories of those doing great things, from small locations. Join your host, Julia Spicer as she interviews and connects with people living all over regional Australia who are doing great work in community and business.
Welcome to Big Fish, Little Place - a podcast by The Connection Table. I’m your host Julia Spicer, a serial entrepreneur thriving in a town of less than 10,000 people. In each episode, we share stories of those doing great things, from small locations. Because it doesn’t matter where you are across Australia, big ideas, personalities & impact can be found in the smallest and most remote parts of the country!
There’s always good news on the Grapevine in regional, rural and remote Australia, and my guest today is helping push this even further! Brooke Hargraves grief up in central Queensland, has a background in journalism and wants to help the regions get your stories out there! The GRapevine Australia, co-founded with her friend and fellow journo Alex Prucell is helping ensure that good news gets a broader platform. In this conversation we talk about the impact of the Global Financial Crisis on journalism, how the diversity in business models can really help startups and how our biggest superpower in the region is connection. Enjoy this conversation and check out the great work that Brooke and Alex are doing at The Grapevine Australia.

Edwina Sharrock
Today’s episode is the longest one yet, and yet, I could have talked with Edwina Sharrock for another hour! Edwina and her family live out the outskirts of Tamworth in New South Wales and she is the epitome of a regional entrepreneur. As an alumni of Cartier Wome’s Initiative, she has come full circle with business from startup, scaleup seeking capital, to buying acquired and now starting again, she has ridden the wav of being a regional business leader.
Edwina has a background in nursing and you will hear how she has taken this knowledge to solve real and very personal challenges along the way. Edwina is a daughter, mum, sister, wife, board leader, coach and mentor. This is a powerful episode, I hope you enjoy listening to Edwina’s wisdom as much as I did!
