   68. The Phantom Of The Opera (2004) with Sequoia Sellinger

Sing, my angel of podcast! For the final episode of Cellulloyd Webber month, Grace and Scott are joined by musical theater composer Sequoia Sellinger to talk about Joel Schumacher's film adaptation of arguably the most famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, The Phantom of The Opera! We get into the casting, the dutch angles, the candles coming out of the water, and more--including our ranking of all the Andrew Lloyd Webber movie adaptations we've covered this month. The Phantom of the Opera, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Joel Schumacher based on Webber and Charles Hart's musical of the same name, based on Gaston Leroux's novel, stars Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, and Minnie Driver. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Original Song for "Learn To Be Lonely" but won none of them. Big White Elephants is a podcast where two friends, Grace and Scott, dissect movie musicals: Everything from DCOMs to MGM Classics, Japanese Punk Rock films to modern Jukebox Musicals, and all kinds of things in between! We talk about what works and what doesn't, and whether a film is a 'Big White Elephant', based on director Rob Marshall's quote ”The thing about movie musicals is that there have been some brilliant ones, but when they’re bad, they’re really bad - big white elephants.” Join us every Thursday to discuss a new musical film wherever you get your podcasts

   67. Cats (2019)

The best Jellicle Choice you can make is listening to this episode about Cats (2019)! To continue our Cellulloyd Webber month, Grace and Scott are joined by co-host of Cinema Shame and bad movie aficionado Allan Mott to talk about Tom Hooper's much maligned adaptation of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. Why do they have human noses? Why is Rebel Wilson here? What even is a Jellicle Cat? We attempt to answer all these burning questions and more about the bizarre film starring Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Frencesca Hayward, and many more cat-humans.
