நல்லதங்கா கதை தமிழ்நாட்டின் பிரபலமான கதைகளில் ஒன்றாகும். இந்த சம்பவம் ஒரு கதையாகக் கூறப்பட்டாலும், அவர் உண்மையில் வாழ்ந்தவர் என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது. நல்லதங்கல் தனது 7 குழந்தைகளை கிணற்றுக்குள் எறிந்தாள், பின்னர் அவள் கிணற்றில் விழுந்து வறுமை மற்றும் மைத்துனரின் தவறான வார்த்தைகளால் இறந்தாள்
அர்ஜுனாபுரமும் கிராமத்தைச் சுற்றியுள்ள பகுதியும் ராமலிங்க சேதுபதி மற்றும் இந்திராணி ஆகியோரால் ஆளப்பட்டன. அவர்களுக்கு இரண்டு குழந்தைகள், ஒரு நல்ல சகோதரர் மற்றும் ஒரு நல்ல சகோதரர் உள்ளனர். அவர்கள் இளம் வயதிலேயே தாயையும் தந்தையையும் இழந்தனர். ஆயினும்கூட, இப்பகுதியை ஆண்ட நல்லதம்பி, தனது தங்கை நல்லதங்கலை வளர்த்து, தற்போதைய சிவகங்கை மாவட்டத்தில் மனமதுரையில் வசிக்கும் அரச வம்சமான காசிராஜாவை மணந்தார்.
