1) Treasury sold 22 billion dollars of 30 year bonds Thursday at 5.618%, the highest yield at a 30 year auction since August 2000. The buyers showed up, because the paper finally got cheap enough. 2) AI capital spending is 1.4% of US GDP and forecast to hit 3.1% by 2027. Housing peaked at 6.6% in 2005, so AI is half the size and building at twice the pace. 3) Europe’s securities regulator gave crypto firms until January 8, 2027 to drop Tether, and told Brussels that self custody and open source software should not count as regulated intermediation. 4) The US Treasury auto enrolled more than 60 million children into Trump Accounts without a parent opting in. The money can only buy US index funds until age 18, and it comes out taxed as ordinary income.

1) The 10 year Treasury touched 5.35% this morning, a new high since 2002. FOMC minutes show most policymakers expect another rate increase this year. 2) Oil jumped 4.85% to $92.56 on a report the White House asked the Pentagon for Iran strike options. Global oil demand is already down 2 million barrels a day. 3) US banks are holding $326.7 billion of unrealized losses on their securities, and that figure was measured June 30. The 10 year has added 89 basis points since that day. 4) FinCEN withdrew the 2020 unhosted wallet rule and the 2023 mixing proposal. The authority to write them again is still on the books.
