Black by Unpopular Opinion

About Black by Unpopular Opinion

Black by Unpopular Opinion is a podcast conceived after many long hours over the years of profound discussions --and sometimes heatedly debating-- between one another topics that concern, enlighten, and affect us on a daily basis. We recognize that voices like ours are needed in today's societal climate: voices concentrated on the singular objective of achieving equality and respect for every single Black and downtrodden individual on this planet, albeit trekking very different roads to said purpose--hence the origin of this platform. This, however, doesn't mean that our main objectives in creating BBUOP will always result in dismal conversation. As serious and often somber the conversation surrounding the plight of being Black and oppressed in America, --and around the globe--can be, our platform won’t be without lighthearted and enjoyable moments, mirroring another major part of our, and the entire Black existence as well. To be Black is to also be celebrated, resilient, and optimistic. We delight in friendly banter (and occasional PDA). Also worth noting: a multitude of our discussions are not and will not always be restricted solely to issues of race relations. Sports, entertainment, and literature, among numerous other topics will additionally be memorable components of our podcast. We welcome ALL listeners. There is no audience unattainable and no mind unchangeable, including our own. Make Black by Unpopular Opinion regular companions to your morning commute, `noon chill, and nighttime "wine" down! You down with BBUOP?!

MALCOLM WAS RIGHT: THE SEQUEL. HE DONE PENNIED, NICKLED, DIMED, HE DONE COINT THE PHRASE. SO BLACK MAN, OH BLACK MAN, WHERE ART THOU?

Who run the world?! GWORLS! WOMEN! ALL MY LAAAADIES RUN THIS MUTHAF-! But that don't mean all men recognize that. One did. May 22, 1962. Los Angeles, California. He made it CLEAR. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS IS THE ORIGIN OF THE LOOSELY TOUTED, RARELY REGARDED, AIMLESSLY ABIDED, HARDLY HONORED PHRASE: "PROTECT BLACK WOMEN". In what one could only hope to be an early birthday gift to himself, Malcolm X (born May 19, 1925) delivered his passionate speech: a raw, unfiltered, love-laced and necessary ode to the Black American woman. (https://youtu.be/sCSOiN_38nE) This episode brings a powerful close to our celebration of Women's History Month with a bang. We discuss the disrespect, disregard, distaste, and disgust of and for Black women, feelings that have originated long ago and been perpetuated towards us for NO. DAMN. REASON. We break down why, worst of all, Black men seem to hold such vitriol towards their own women of all racial groups. And of course we explore everything else Black and unpopularly related. This will be the season finale of our Women's History series ... BUT ...! That doesn't mean the party stops just because the club shuts down. We'll continue to celebrate women, especially BLACK WOMEN, EVERY SINGLE MONTH. So stay tuned, keep listening, and welcome to a safe space to be Black, millennial, and full of unpopular opinions. Is A Woman’s Worth This Woman’s Work? How Happy Belated Post-International Women's Day Became This Woman’s Point of Contention …

Who run the world?! GWORLS! WOMEN! ALL MY LAAAADIES RUN THIS MUTHAF-! Happy SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALI-DOSE OF BELATED INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY! In today's episode, we bring in International Women's Day (recorded right before and during the first couple of hours of March 8, 2024) with Flavor Flav-type hype about how women could and should celebrate this day all March and every single day. BUT ...! The conversation soon takes an unanticipated pivot into a Soft-Era level heart-to-heart about how CiCi truly feels about being a woman and her sentiments regarding other modern women. We engage in an honest, vulnerable discussion full of introspection and candid truths about CiCi's views on femininity and womanhood amidst a day and a month of acknowledging the incredible achievements of women who set ablaze the path before her. Ladies and gentlemen, there will be no bulleted breakdown of this episode because we'd like to formally welcome you to: Hol' Up! Episode 1. Don't trip! We'll introduce what that means and what you can expect each time we do one of these. So stay tuned, keep listening, and welcome to a safe space to be Black, millennial, and full of unpopular opinions. I'm Not (Always) Your Superwoman: March Mellowness & Women's History

Cue that good Karyn White (IYKYK!) and belt your lungs out ladies! Happy Women's History Month and Disability Awareness Month! As we segue from our previous, initial series on a month full of conversations around romantic Black love, we dive into Season Two, on Black SELF and Black woman love! Don't get it twisted, loving yourself and a Black woman is romantic AF. However, in Series Two, we are truly going to take the time to celebrate Black women both now and then, and their limitless accomplishments amidst being deemed by society, at minimim, a trio of marginalized intersectionality. Women are Superwomen, but that S on our chest might sometimes need to stand literally for Something Different Every Day. It might be Super, Soft, Super Soft, etc. So in this second series we will also be deeply unpacking how to continue celebrating ourselves as a people beyond the short month of February (woohoo, we got an extra day this leap year ...) through the awareness of invisible disabilities. In the disability category, mental health challenges are often deemed unqualified by the greater population and especially within the Black community in terms of what disabled persons endure. As two individuals with our own experiences, we discuss our personal challenges and how our community can heal through mental health awareness. In this episode, we: Close out the previous series by debunking, clarifying, and/or standing ten toes down on assumptions and insinuations surrounding the unpopular opinions we shared in Series One on women (and men) in dating and relationships. Segue into making clear what Black women bring to the table. Discuss how mental health affects the Black woman. Unpack the intersections for Black women of mental health and relationships, expounding on what we expect, deal with, shouldn't deal with, and should avoid interpersonally. Deliberate on what the Soft Life Era is and what it might look like for Black women. How a Black woman's partner hurts or helps her become her best self. And of course we share our thoughts on everything that may or may not be unpopular! If you're looking for somewhere to be authentic, Black, and unpopularly opinionated, you've come to the right place. Welcome to a safe space to be just that. Love Games Fina-List: Interview With a BM(MM)

Episode three of our first topic series. In this third installation of our first thematic series, we host an interview with a BM(MM), Black Man (Millennial & Married). Tonight (or today, whenever you're listening), Phillip answers some important and often underrated, understated questions and concerns about the role of men in relationships. We cover: Be ffr: is chivalry is really even necessary anymore? The psychology of why Black women may face difficulties in finding and keeping a man. Who truly is the prize in the relationship (his answer may surprise you). Why Johnathan Owens REALLY "didn't know" who his now-wife Simone Biles was prior to dating her. The love triangle of Karen, Zac, and Fatima (IYKYK!) More free game! And of course, so much more in the most unpopular way! If you're looking for very Black, very bold, very unpopular opinions, you've come to the right place. Welcome to a safe place to be just that. Apoca-List: Free Game; Love & War, or Merely Prisoners of Greed?

This is episode two of our first topic series. This is the apoca-list; the aftermath, our post-restaurant list episode where we discuss things such as entitlement, greed, and all things (un)popular in dating. In this second installment of our first thematic series, this episode entails: The entitlement of people in dating and previously trending takes on the worth of a partner. The responsibilities of men and women when it comes to prospecting. Biological cues, parameters, and tendencies in the dating pool. The fine lines of promiscuity and expectations. A term we deemed "Prejuducial preference"; what it means and the negativity of its existence. Free game in love and war! And of course, our unpopular opinions on so much more! If you're looking for very Black, very bold, very unpopular opinions, you've come to the right place. Welcome to a safe place to be just that. D-Lister Sole Sisters

Welcome to Episode One of a new series we're unveiling! In this series, we discuss all things love, relationships, marriage, dating, and everything in-between! This is episode one of our first topic series. Tonight (or today, whenever you tune in), we're breaking down the infamous 28-Place, No-First-Date, not even Cheesecake list created by presumably single women banding together to let their stances, and absolutely refusals be known. As a now married millennial couple, having previously dated in some of these spaces, we share our very Black and very unpopular opinions on said list, with what may come as very surprising takes from us. In this initial installation of our first thematic series: We begin by introducing an overview of what we may or may not discuss in this episode. We break down EACH line item on the list in-depth. We share our personal testimonies regarding each place, along with our agreements and/or disagreements with the consensus. If you're looking for very Black, very bold, very unpopular opinions, you've come to the right place. Welcome to a safe place to be just that. Later, it's the battle of her "blues" versus both the origin of a very infamous baseball bat and a much less exciting Hot 20th Century Summer.
