Sex and the City was and still is the moment. But we couldn't help but wonder, how does it measure up to today's social norms and also where are all the Black people?! Join Cam and Mel as they dissect every episode of the iconic show from the Black woman's perspective.
We finally made it to the end of season one! The season finale was full of drama. Carrie and Miranda ambush Big and his mother at church. Samantha accepts that she just needs a big d**k and ends things with James. Charlotte consults a psychic for insight into her relationship future. Miranda dates the Catholic guy. The finale had us wondering, does a person's religion play a role in dating? Do you want to know when you'll meet the love of your life? Does size matter? (it do)

S1 E11: The Drought
Everybody’s doing IT. Or at least they should be according to Carrie in the penultimate episode of season one, The Drought. Each of our girls finds themselves in a situation where they’re faced with determining just how much or how little sex means to them and their romantic relationships. Carrie farts in front of Big for the first time and spirals out after a week of no sex. Samantha tries on celibacy — kinda — for size in pursuit of a hot yogi. Charlotte sees potential in Carrie’s former lover who also happens to be a former sex addict turned limp dick. And Miranda is getting zero action.
In this episode of Black In The City we discuss the importance of sex, confronting embarrassing moments in new relationships, celibacy vs abstinence and more.

Samantha celebrates her single, childless freedom and Charlotte is forced to come to terms with not having the life she thought she would at her age.

S1 E9: The Turtle & The Hare
Is it truly better to marry someone that loves you more than you love them? This unsolicited piece of advice from Brooke, a friend of the girls whose wedding they attend, sets the tone of the episode with each character navigating rejection and the trash dating pool in their own ways. With this, we couldn't help but wonder, if a loving and happy marriage is the end goal why are so many people getting married if they're not in love?
Honorable topic mentions: vibrators, fixer-upper men and lavender marriages. Join your girls Cam and Mel as they get into it in this latest episode of Black In The City.

S1 E8: Three's A Crowd
"Are threesomes the new frontier and the new relationships of the future?"
Carrie ponders this as she's presented with new information in her relationship with Big: he was previously married and they had wild sex. Samantha is propositioned for a threesome by the wife of the man she's sleeping with, Charlotte's new man is already asking for one and none of the girls chose Miranda as their pick for an imaginary mé·nage à trois.
We couldn't help but wonder, has much changed from 1999 to 2025? Are throuples the new norm? Is an ex having had wild sex with an ex intimidating or just an exchange of information? Is Carrie doing the most when she pulls up to Big's ex-wife's job? And how come no one checked Samantha about messing with a married man? We're covering it all in this episode of Black In The City!

S1 E7: The Monogamists
Is monogamy too much to ask for? How soon is too soon to discuss exclusivity? Is a man *coughs* physically suggesting oral sex acceptable today? Is head a dealbreaker? Is Manhattan so small that you might actually run into someone you're dating on another date? So many questions and only 30 minutes. This episode we're talking about The Monogamists, the seventh episode of season one of Sex and the City.

Or imagine you find out that a new love interest has *coughs* an acquired taste in porn. Carrie and Miranda find themselves faced with the complicated nature of sex with a new partner this episode and it begs the question, is all new sex kind of secret?
In this episode we're diving right in answering these questions:

How do you feel about sex on the first date/link?

Miranda finds herself unknowingly on a date with a "modelizer" and it brings up all sorts of insecurities for the women... except for Samantha, of course. It begs the question: What's more important, the piece of arm candy that's gonna have you feeling like the (wo)man when you walk through? Or is it really all about the person that makes you laugh? This episode we discuss beauty standards then vs. now and the impact they have on finding a mate.

S1 E1: Sex and the City
Join two girls, Cam and Mel, as they talk about one of the most iconic shows of all time from the millennial Black woman's perspective. Filmed in 1997 and aired in 1998, the pilot episode of Sex and City introduced 4 single and fabulous women to the masses. They were fashionable, bold, daring and still making questionable decisions in their 30s. They're carrying condoms in their purses, having sex like men and riding in cars with strangers. Some things haven't changed and some certainly would have gotten this show canceled in 2025. Also, where are all the Black people?!
