Margaret Ellen and Rayna reconnect, this time diving into Octavia Butler’s prophetic masterpiece, Parable of the Sower. In this episode, they bring book club energy out of the coffee shops and into the digital space, inviting listeners to join the Contraband Reading Society, where banned ideas and bold conversations thrive.
Together, they unpack Butler’s vision through the lens of Black Millennial experience, exploring themes of faith deconstruction, community survival, and spiritual evolution in a world that feels eerily close to Butler’s imagined future.
Tune in for a conversation that blends literary analysis, Black futurism, and spiritual honesty, all while challenging the boundaries of what “polite society” says we should read, think, or feel.

Be Careful with Us (Bonus Episode)
We had to sit down and wrap our minds around the latest wave of discussions about Black Women in America, which is why we even have a platform. Summary- be careful with one another. We dissect a few underlying concepts but at the root, there's simply a difference between connecting directly with people you'd like to help and using a platform to commit secondhand violence against a group of people.
- This was released privately during the first issue with Mo'Nique. Now that she's escalated here it is.
Listen in. No ads, this is a bonus episode straight from the heart.
