So this is not the global supply, but just what the U.S. keeps. it's normally around 400 million barrels it started to have a steep decline around april and now in september sits below 300 million barrels the article says this the strategic petroleum reserve is the u.s government's emergency supply of crude oil it was created after the energy shortage of the 1970s the reserve held 415 million barrels when the war began The latest report for the week ending September 11th puts it at 285 million, down 0.4 million barrels in a week.
