[…] In other words, it's a sort of assumption, implicit assumption made by Milton Friedman that somehow the rules of society work. It's just taken for granted somehow that they do. But in reality, they often don't. One of the adages that we're taught as children is that crime doesn't pay. And that's maybe a hopeful, descriptive statement of the way that society and law enforcement works. But of course, it's not a complete story. Sometimes crime does pay. And you talk about that as profitable misconduct. Could you talk to us about what profitable misconduct might be and how good governance, good internal governance might paradoxically promote profitable misconduct, even if it's maybe helping align managers with shareholders and mitigating agency costs within the firm?
