More Than the Game: The Hidden Mental Health Crisis Facing Student Athletes | Roger Wilson
What happens when the pressure to perform outweighs the game itself?
This week on Call Cut with Angélique, I sit down with Roger H. Wilson, former Division I athlete and veteran ESPN producer, who spent more than three decades behind some of the biggest events in sports. Today, he has turned his attention from the scoreboard to the person behind the athlete.
Through the More Than The Game Foundation, Roger is working to address the growing mental health pressures facing student-athletes, from social media and online criticism to NIL, the transfer portal, parental expectations, gambling, rejection, and the relentless pressure to perform.
We talk about what Roger calls "the other 90%," the part of an athlete's life the audience never sees. We also explore resilience, identity, learning to navigate failure, the importance of peer-to-peer support, and why young athletes need to know that their performance does not determine their worth.
Roger also shares how the late Bill Walton helped inspire a dramatic change in his own life, leading him to leave ESPN after 33 years and pursue a mission he believes can save lives.
Because behind every jersey, statistic, highlight reel, and championship is a human being.
And sometimes the most important victory has nothing to do with winning the game.

Turning Grief Into Purpose: The Story Behind Belle and Her Missing Heart
Sometimes our purpose has been revealing itself for years before we finally recognize it.
This week on Call Cut with Angélique, I sit down with self-taught watercolor artist and storyteller Daniel Angeles, creator of Belle and Her Missing Heart, a deeply moving story born from an unimaginable loss.
What began as a single painting for a little girl grieving the loss of her mother became something much bigger: a book, a world of characters, a mission of comfort, and a way for Daniel to use his art to help others navigate grief, healing, hope, and the emotions we don't always know how to put into words.
Daniel also opens up about his own extraordinary journey through multiple brain surgeries, his decision to stop drinking, forgiveness, and the realization that the art he had been creating for 17 years was preparing him for a purpose he couldn't yet see.
We talk about grief, creativity, emotional healing, finding your why, and what can happen when you stop waiting for permission and begin using your gifts in service of something greater than yourself.
As I always say, the thing you are searching for is already within you.

Shadow Work: Why You Need the Dark to Understand the Light
What if the parts of yourself you've been trying to get rid of are actually the parts you need to understand?
In this episode of Call Cut with Angélique, we go deep into shadow work, the ancient symbolism of the yin-yang, Carl Jung's concept of the shadow, and the alchemy of becoming whole.
We are often taught to divide ourselves into categories of good and bad, light and dark, spiritual and unspiritual. But human beings are far more complicated than that. We can love deeply and still feel anger. We can be courageous and still experience fear. We can celebrate someone and still notice envy arise. The problem isn't that these contradictions exist. The problem begins when we refuse to acknowledge them.
We'll explore why the shadow isn't something to destroy, how suppressed emotions can contain valuable information, and why integrating our darker aspects does not mean surrendering to them. It means becoming conscious enough to decide what we do with the energy.
You'll also learn how the Call Cut Method™ and the Sacred Pause can help interrupt an emotional reaction before an old narrative takes control, giving you the space to become curious about what you're feeling, what triggered it, and what it may be trying to show you.
Because self-mastery isn't about standing permanently in the light.
It's about knowing you can enter the darkness without losing yourself there.
