We're best friends navigating marriage, motherhood, and full time ministry. Join us for honest and hilarious conversations on faith, family, and leadership.
This week on Called to Chaos, Helen and Barbara have an honest conversation for the new moms, postpartum moms, and moms in the thick of raising littles.
They talk openly about the challenges that can come with early motherhood including anxiety, overstimulation, exhaustion, mom guilt, mental health, antidepressants and medication, and the pressure moms often feel to do everything “right.” They also dive into comparison, the unrealistic expectations placed on moms, and the reminder that every child develops differently and every mom is doing better than she thinks.
If you’re deep in diapers, tantrums, sleepless nights, survival mode, or just feeling overwhelmed by the weight of motherhood, this episode is for you.
You are not alone, and you are not failing.

Random Thoughts & Rabbit Trails
This week Helen and Barbara decided to keep things a little lighter… so naturally that led to random "hot takes" that don't actually feel like hot takes. 😜 A couple random “this or that” debates, some unnecessary opinions, and plenty of rabbit trails along the way.
From parenting and friendship thoughts, to shopping habits and anxiety quirks. Plus all the completely random places their brains tend to go in between… this episode really feels like you’re just hanging out with friends.

Helen's Story of Marriage, Betrayal, Divorce… & Redemption
This week’s episode is a little different…
Barbara sits down with Helen to talk through the full story of her and Gary’s relationship — how they met, the early years of marriage, becoming parents young, betrayal on both sides, divorce, heartbreak, shame, and ultimately… reconciliation.
This isn’t a polished “perfect marriage” story. It’s honest, messy, painful, redeeming, and full of the ways God can restore what feels completely broken when both people are willing to put Christ back at the center.
We truly believe the enemy did not want this episode out. Between recording issues, editing problems, audio glitches, and video inconsistencies, this episode fought us every step of the way… but we kept pushing through because we know someone needs to hear it.
So if you notice a few audio or video inconsistencies along the way, just know: this conversation was too important not to share.
Whether you’re married, divorced, reconciling, hurting, or wondering if redemption is even possible for your story — this episode is for you.

Ministry, Motherhood, & The Myth of Balance
This week, Helen and Barbara recap celebrating Barbara’s birthday with a visit to The Worthy Co. and dinner afterward, which leads into an important conversation about trafficking awareness and the impact organizations like this are making.
Then the conversation shifts into the very real struggle of trying to balance ministry, leadership, marriage, motherhood, family life, and personal health all at the same time. They talk honestly about the pressure women feel to “do it all,” the guilt that comes with constantly feeling pulled in multiple directions, and the realization that maybe perfect balance isn’t actually possible in every season.
And to lighten things up a little, they end by discussing what their actual dream Mother’s Day would look like if Sundays, responsibilities, and ministry schedules weren’t part of the equation.
It’s honest, relatable, funny in the real-life kind of way, and a conversation that will make every overwhelmed mom feel a little less alone

Life Was Life-ing This Week
This week Helen and Barbara talk about everything from birthday tattoos and weekly chaos, to family overload and what happens when life keeps adding “just one more thing” to your plate. 🫣
Between kids with allergy attacks, broken Chromebooks, promposals, and trying not to completely crash out while everyone needs something at the exact same time… this episode is basically a live look into their mental tabs being open everywhere.
It's full of the chaos you've surely come to expect at this point. 🤣

Tears, Tension, & Unhinged Opinions
Helen and Barbara talk about what it looks like to hold a lot at once - grief, big life moments, conflict, and everything in between.
Helen shares about finding out her son’s graduation falls on the one-year anniversary of losing her mom, and the tension of celebrating something so big while still carrying deep grief. They talk honestly about what it means to be “strong,” and how sometimes we mistake strength for pushing through instead of actually feeling what’s real.
Barbara shares about navigating disagreement in marriage when it comes to decisions for their kids, and how communication, compromise, and working as a team really played out in real life.
Somewhere along the way, they also throw in a few hot takes, things that should probably be illegal for moms, and a slightly biased conversation about why women might just be superior 😅
It’s raw, real, and a little unhinged.

A Little Spiraling, A Little Truth, A Little Nostalgia
This week Helen & Barbara get real about what it looks like to have people in your life who love you enough to be honest, even when it’s uncomfortable, and why we actually need that to get unstuck.
From there, the conversation shifts into how hard it is to quiet your mind in the middle of busy, overwhelming seasons—and why finding something that’s just for you (yes, even a hobby 😅) actually matters more than we think.
And somewhere along the way, they take a turn down memory lane. From talking about music and movies to what it was like growing up without devices, playing outside, using your imagination, and why they wish kids could experience more of that today.
It’s real, a little random, but also very relatable.

Hyperfixation, Overthinking, and Everything in Between
This week, Helen and Barbara talk about everything from their pedicure struggles and school bus drama to last-minute field trips and the reality of living with ADHD 😂
They dive into hyperfixation, overthinking, and all the random ways their brains keep them busy… even when they’re trying to rest. From avoiding tasks and feeling overwhelmed to managing a house, raising kids, and trying to stay on top of life, it’s real, relatable, and honestly just how their brains work.
They also get into relationship dynamics, emotional triggers, impulse control, and what it looks like to create an environment that actually helps instead of hurts.
It’s honest, a little all over the place, and if you’ve ever felt like your brain won’t slow down… you’ll feel right at home in this one.

Random Stories, Real Life, and Raising Kids in the Chaos
On this weeks episode, Helen and Barbara talk about everything from Easter prep chaos, an update on the surprise date night they planned, to mom fails, kids calling them out, and the reality of navigating teen dating.
They also get real about the harder side of parenting - setting boundaries, managing phones and online content, dealing with personal triggers, and how their own past experiences shape the way they parent today.
It’s honest, funny, and a little all over the place (in the best way), as they unpack what it looks like to raise kids in today’s world.

This week Barbara & Helen keep it light and fun 😂

Grief, Grace, Vulnerability & Your Village
This week, Helen and Barbara kick things off with the stuff nobody warned us about. like the mental load of adulting, finances, taxes, and all the responsibilities that just keep showing up. (Seriously… why is it so much?)
But then they shift into something deeper.
In this episode, they talk about what it looks like to find your people, let your guard down, and actually be vulnerable—even when it’s uncomfortable. Because the truth is, we weren’t meant to do any of this alone.
They share some of their hardest seasons—from losing their moms to walking through unexpected, life-altering moments and how those experiences shaped their faith, their friendships, and their need for a strong village.
They also talk about:
• navigating different personalities and relationships
• why vulnerability matters more than you think
• and what it actually looks like to trust God when life doesn’t make sense
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, alone, or like you’re just trying to hold it all together - this one’s for you.

School Calls, Hormones & ADHD
In this episode Helen & Barbara talk about… well… a little bit of everything. It starts with school calls and parenting chaos, somehow end up talking about menopause and ADHD meds, and take several detours in between.
They share the real-life challenges of motherhood, navigating work and family, and what it looks like to raise kids in a world full of screens, pressure, and changing expectations.
They also get honest about women’s health, mental load, and the moments that make you wonder if you’re doing any of this parenting thing right.
Basically… their ADHD said it wouldn’t show up today because they took their meds. But the conversation still went everywhere — and honestly, that’s kind of the point.
