While he averaged 58 home runs annually over a five year period, stiff competition cost Sammy the top spot in three of his most prolific seasons. Allegations of steroid use tainted his image and hindered his path to the Hall of Fame. Ostracized from the team he called home for 13 seasons, Sosa’s legacy remains a subject of debate.

His funky mechanics and flexibility fueled an explosive pitching delivery. In his arsenal, Lincecum possessed a turbocharged fastball that, for a man his size, baffled players and spectators alike. Tim also utilized several devastating offspeed and breaking pitches in his repertoire. His charming but authentic persona made rooting for him an easy task. Hardware, championships, and multiple historic performances defined his Hall of Fame peak that was accompanied by injuries. Big Time Timmy Jim achieved more than many players currently occupying Cooperstown.

Mark McGwire, often referred to as Big Mac, forever altered the landscape of America’s pastime. In 1998, McGwire and Sammy Sosa’s thrilling pursuit of home run history captivated fans around the globe. The spotlight followed this duo every night during this storybook season that included numerous tape measure shots. Mark’s compact swing, brute strength, and timely hitting allowed him to break a hallowed record. Before attaining legendary status, he and Jose Canseco formed the iconic Bash Brothers tandem with the Oakland Athletics. Unfortunately, McGwire’s legacy was tarnished by steroid use, casting a shadow over his achievements. Once a surefire Hall of Famer, gate-keeping voters have delayed his entrance into Cooperstown.

An Oakland icon and fan favorite, Rickey’s swagger ignited a revolution in the game, showcasing a flair many players were too shy to embrace. His confidence and unique style, including the way Rickey talked about Rickey, set him apart from the rest.

Pete Rose, famously known as Charlie Hustle, epitomized relentless determination. He put everything on the line – both figuratively and literally – to help his team win. Known for his aggressive, sometimes controversial style, Rose played with a bold arrogance that could provoke both admiration and disdain. An incredibly tough out, he was a line-drive hitter who used the entire field. This approach, coupled with durability, earned him the title of baseball’s hit king. Unfortunately, Pete’s legacy is clouded by a betting scandal, persistent denial, and other off-the-field transgressions which have prevented his enshrinement in the Hall of Fame.

The INSANE Prime of Nolan Ryan (Historic Level)
Nolan Ryan, also known as “The Ryan Express,” terrified opposing hitters in four different decades. Regarded as one of the most intimidating pitchers ever, Nolan was a prototypical flamethrower, and is widely believed to have thrown harder than anyone in big league history. Consequently, he had erratic command that meant sometimes he did not know where the ball would end up. Ryan, armed with a blistering fastball and a lethal 12 to 6 curveball, set a staggering number of records, many of which are linked to his 5,714 strikeouts, the most for an MLB career. Nolan was a mythical, larger-than life figure that defied comprehension, yet somehow was never recognized as the league’s best pitcher. While the spotlight constantly followed Ryan, he exemplified humility off the field.
