Cultivating transformative learning through critical reflection and dialogue with Dr. Victoria Boyd

For our eighth episode, we are fortunate to have Dr. Victoria Boyd as our guest. Victoria Boyd is a Scientific Associate at the Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare & Education (CACHE) at UHN. She holds a PhD in health professions education research from the University of Toronto. Victoria’s research explores how critical reflection and dialogue can transform the ways health professionals communicate, collaborate, and advocate. Victoria aims to mobilize insights from her research through her work in education design, which currently includes U of T’s interprofessional education (IPE) curriculum refresh, to develop transformative learning experiences that prepare health professionals to provide compassionate and equitable care.   In this episode, we discuss the role of critical reflection in health professions education, how clinical teachers can support critical reflection among learners, and how teaching for critical reflection can shape clinical practice.   Boyd VA, Woods NN, Campbell WN, Kumagai AK, Ng SL. (Re)humanizing clinical documentation for disabled children: A cascade of potential outcomes of critically reflective practice. Disability & Society. Boyd VA, Woods NN, Campbell WN, Kumagai AK, Ng SL.
