Returning to Jamaica โ Episode 2: Settling In, Starting Again & Choosing Joy
Two months into returning home to Jamaica, things are beginning to settle, but settling in doesnโt mean having everything figured out.
In Episode 2, I share some wins (including passing my Jamaican driving test!), the realities of getting established on the island, navigating work and business, and what Iโm discovering about the need for Special Education support in Jamaica.
I also talk about something more personal: dating again, building relationships intentionally, paying attention to the stories we create in our own minds, and recognising where there is still room to grow.
This week wasnโt about another dramatic relocation story. It was aboutย building a lifeโearning, connecting, contributing, questioning my decisions, finding possibilities and choosing joy even when I cannot see the entire path ahead.
I donโt have the whole staircase. I can see the next step. So Iโm building as I go.
Returning to Jamaicaย is my real-time experience of coming home after leaving Jamaica at 14, and discovering what returning actually looks and feels like.

This Week Was a Doozie! | Returning to Jamaica ๐ฏ๐ฒ Ep. 1
I moved back to Jamaica after 30 years away, and two months in, I am still learning what it means to actually live here as an adult.
This week? Honey. ๐ It was a doozie.
From finally getting my car, navigating Jamaican roads, tolls, insurance and licence plates, to job decisions, missing belongings, unexpected kindness, a beautiful date day and learning to slow down after years of living at a US/UK paceโthere has been a LOT.
But somewhere in all the frustration, I realised something: trouble isn't following me. Quite the opposite. I am incredibly blessed.
Returning to Jamaicaย is my Saturday series chronicling what it is really like to return to the place where my life began, without pretending that every moment is perfect or that every challenge is a disaster.
The ups. The downs. The lessons. The joy. The things nobody tells you. And, yes, sometimes the tea. โ๐ฏ๐ฒ
New episodes on Saturdays.

Stop Recycling the Same Relationship Patterns
Previously recorded. Still relevant for today.
In this episode, Marsha Kerr Talley explores the power of paying attention to patterns in relationships โ romantic, platonic, and professional. One behaviour does not define a person, but repeated patterns reveal character.
This conversation invites you to assess not only the people entering your life, but your own emotional responses. Are you observing facts, or projecting past experiences? Are you dismissing healthy behaviour as โbare minimumโ because you are unfamiliar with consistency?
This episode covers emotional intelligence, self-regulation, anxiety spirals, trauma responses, and how to differentiate between valid feelings and imagined narratives.
If you have ever recycled the same relationship dynamics, struggled with insecurity in new seasons, or felt your energy shift entirely toward someone new, this episode will help you reclaim your power.
You will also hear about Marshaโs coaching approach and how her trauma-informed framework, Turning Pain Into Possibilityโข, helps individuals move from emotional reactivity to clarity, healing, and strategic action.
Because time does not just reveal others.
It reveals you.
In This Episode:
Why one behaviour is not enough data
The difference between performance and pattern
Why โbare minimumโ may actually be emotional consistency
How past trauma can distort present perception
Emotional intelligence in new relationships
Recognising anxiety spirals and imagined narratives
Why your thoughts are not always facts
The importance of self-regulation
How energy shifts toward new people can cause self-abandonment
Regaining your power in new seasons
Valid feelings vs. objective reality
Why all of us need tools, not just awareness
Coaching support and structured emotional clarity
