[…] Traditionally called Fort Squad or Weapon Squad, it's made up of nine soldiers who are split into two gun teams. They're cursed with the sake of responsibility of carrying the heavy two crew served machine guns and anti-tank weapons into battle. These are the weapons that everybody suddenly becomes more interested in when something with armor and wheels shows up. In fact, the army is now investing over $3 billion into new weapon squad machine guns. So they're adding two new belt-fed machine guns to the platoon. You got the M250 and the larger caliber MG338. Originally, the M250 was meant just to replace the smaller caliber M249 saw that is in the other three maneuver squads in the platoon. […]
