Ashley Kindsvatter & Sara Petrie met working in IT, but bonded over a shared interest in politics. When we think about the impact that gerrymandering and hyper-partisan politics can have on our state, no one knows that reality better than mayors. With their focus on the people of their city, it can be a tough fight against a legislature more interested in playing up partisan issues. Nan Whaley served as the Mayor of Dayton for eight years, served on the city commission, and ran for Governor in 2022. And so if that's the case, you don't really get the view of the whole community. And I'm speaking with both Democrats and Republicans here. As you're in a Democratic primary right now, that is a completely different electorate than the general election electorate. And so they only have to pay attention to a very small voice. And then that makes our politics very, very extreme. Now, if you're a mayor, you are always listening to the whole community. Most of these races, the vast majority of mayors in Ohio are nonpartisan races. […]
