The podcast from Oakland Care. Welcome to the Care2Share podcast by Oakland Care, a luxury care home provider in the South East of England. Moving a loved one into a care home is an extremely emotionally difficult decision for most people to make. There are also so many practical questions surrounding the process of choosing a care home, moving in and what life is like for residents living in an elderly care home. This podcast aims to answer some of these questions and show you what life is like inside our care homes. Elderly care homes are often portrayed negatively, especially in the media. This podcast also aims to dispel these misconceptions and show you the positive and heart-warming side of elderly care for residents and those who work in our care homes. In each episode, guests will join us to cover a range of subjects surrounding elderly care. Cruise Ship to Care Home with Sam Allen

Meet Sam Allen! Sam is the Head of Lifestyles at our Hyllden Heights Care Home in Kent. Prior to working in the care industry, Sam pursued a career as a professional singer. She began singing at the age of 18 after completing her studies in musical theatre at college. Sam then embarked on a journey working on cruise ships and superyachts as a stewardess, singer, and entertainer, sailing around the world and performing classical opera and arias to passengers of all ages. This episode explores Sam's transition from the entertainment industry to Social Care and sheds light on the misconceptions surrounding the transferability of skills from one industry to another. Sam also talks about all the wonderful activities she and her team provide for the residents at Hyllden Heights.

Yoga and Mindfulness with Terry Desmond

Meet Terry Desmond! Terry is a former soldier and the Maintenance Manager at our Hyllden Heights Care Home in Hildenborough, Kent. In addition to Terry's maintenance duties, he also takes on the 'Well-being Champion' role at the home. As a trained yoga teacher, he conducts yoga classes for the residents and has introduced 'Mindfulness Mondays' for residents and team members. In this episode, we dig deeper into Terry's journey of well-being. Terry beautifully explains the concept of mindfulness and the practice of yoga, his experience of them both, and how they have benefitted him and given him a new outlook. We also talk about how he brings his experience with yoga and mindfulness into the care home environment to help team members and residents.
