Nehemiah prayed and trusted God, but he also planned,prepared, investigated, and acted. Nehemiah 2 teaches us that waiting is not passivity, courage does not mean the absence of fear, opportunities should be met with prayer, and faith and careful planning work together.
Even when opposition arises, Nehemiah remains confident inGod: “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding.”

Nehemiah 1 | The Building of a Rebuilder | Christian Bible Study
Before Nehemiah could rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, therebuilder himself had to be prepared.
In Nehemiah 1, Nehemiah hears about the broken condition ofJerusalem. He cares enough to ask, weeps over what he hears, fasts, and turns to God in prayer. His prayer follows a powerful pattern: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication.
Nehemiah shows us that prayer is not passivity. He prays tobe empowered for action. Before we can build or rebuild, God must prepare us for the task ahead. Nehemiah also points us toward Jesus, who cared for his people, identified with them, intercedes for them, and left his place of glory to come to our rescue.

Philemon | Forgiveness and Reconciliation | Christian Bible Study
Paul’s letter to Philemon tells the story of Onesimus, a runaway slave who encountered Paul and became a Christian. Paul sends Onesimus back to Philemon, not simply as a slave, but as a beloved brother in Christ. Paul appeals to Philemon not by compulsion, but on the basis of Christian love, asking him to receive Onesimus as he would receive Paul himself.
Philemon challenges us to consider how the Gospel transforms our relationships. Because God has accepted us, we accept others. Because God has forgiven us, we forgive others. Because God has blessed us, we bless others.
Paul even offers to pay whatever Onesimus owes, pointing us to Jesus, who paid our debt through the cross. And while we often see ourselves as Philemon, the person who has been wronged, sometimes we are Onesimus, the ones who have wronged others and need to seek forgiveness and reconciliation.
