About Cast Your Nets, with BigTuna

“Cast Your Nets” is a new interview show hosted by BigTuna, who invites various guests from around the internet to come discuss the Holy Bible. Guests will help to choose a topic from the God’s Word as narrow as a single verse, or as broad as a whole book— sometimes, zooming in on a key theme or character. We'll discuss our favorite ideas, toughest interpretations, and greatest lessons from the good book; and try to grasp what it might have to say about the cultural & personal circumstances of today’s day & age.

Ep. 17: Michael Heiser's Edenic Cosmos- A Tuna Talks Episode

In this week’s episode of Cast Your Nets, BigTuna returns for a solo podcast walking through the thought and work of Dr. Michael S. Heiser, who was a Christian, Old Testament scholar, Ancient History scholar, and Semitic Languages expert; best known for his 2023 book (and subsequent talks on), “The Unseen Realm.” Tuna goes through some of Heiser’s key concepts like the Divine Council worldview of Psalm 82 and Heiser’s Three Rebellions Narrative (the Fall, The Pre-Flood World, and the Tower of Babel), before diving into Heiser’s entire overview of both the Old and New Testaments, taking the Bible as a story of God’s historic plan for both the physical and spiritual world to be redeemed back toward their Edenic purpose. Passages like Genesis 1, 2, 6, 10, and 11; Psalm 82, Daniel 7, Ezekiel 28, Matthew 4, 16, and 17; Mark 1 and 9, Luke 11, 1st Corinthians 2, and Hebrews 1 & 2 are all examined in order to bolster and cross-examine Heiser’s thinking. Tune in for all of this and more!

Ep. 16: Matthew 5:5 and Offensive Christianity, feat. J. Chase Davis

In this week’s episode of Cast Your Nets, BigTuna is once more joined by returning guest J. Chase Davis, to discuss Chase’s new book, “Offensive Christianity: Restoring the Strength of Men in a Feminized Age,” and Matthew 5:5. The two sift through the “toothlessness” of contemporary Christianity, the proper meaning of Meekness in the Bible, why the world wants Men to be weak (and how Men can resist this), how Men can use their powers wisely, what it means to inherit the earth, Glory’s proper place in the Christian life, and why psychologizing the sermon on the mount reduces the impact of Jesus’ message. Scriptures like Psalm 37:11, Hebrews 11, Numbers 12, Exodus 17:8-16, and others are used to steel the arguments put forward during the podcast. Tune in for all of the and more! Ep. 15: Acts 17 and The Enculturated Word, feat. Pax

In this week’s episode of Cast Your Nets, BigTuna is joined by creative design extraordinaire and friend of the podcast, Pax (formerly Pax Americana). The two discussed Acts 17, dwelling on the meaning of “turn the world upside down,” Paul’s announcement of a new phase of history, why the cultural contexts of Thessalonica, Berea, and Athens are necessary to understand the passage, why the Jews reacted in the ways they did to Paul’s message, why Paul’s spirit was provoked in Athens, why God has providentially set up the boundaries of nations, and what this all means for America, both historically and today.
