Beyond Immersion: Spatial Sound as Practice

Panel discussion with Enyang Urbiks (Urbiks Music), Andrew Rahman (Spatial Media Lab/d&b audiotechnik), Basel Nouri (TimeLab/Spatial Media Lab), Elizabeth Davis (Wilted Woman) and Doron Sadja Spatial sound is often framed through systems and setups. This conversation shifts the focus to practice. Bringing together artists working across electronic music, sound art, production and composition, the panel explores how space operates as material. Las casas ya no están

Season 6 of CAP Selects is a weekly series showcasing the exceptional work of our Creative Audio Production & Sound Engineering students. During the second-year of study, students are tasked with writing a five-track album from scratch that realises a creative vision. An opportunity to explore any idea they choose – the only limitations to this brief is that one of the tracks must be collaborative and another must be covers or reinterpretations of original work. This week is ilaL's Las casas ya no están. Here’s what ilaL said about the project: Las casas ya no están is an album that explores displacement, memory, and transformation through sound. It emerges from the emotional tension between leaving home and arriving in a new city: the duality of inhabiting a new place and the grief of losing what once defined home. Rather than framing this experience as a rupture, the album understands movement as a process of reconciliation between who one was and who one is becoming.
