Catch the Dragonfly

About Catch the Dragonfly

He was a charmer, a farmer, a lover. But behind the smooth talk and promises was something far darker: a con artist running elaborate scams, juggling secret romances, hidden children, and an empire of fabricated stories. This Silence is Deafening

After going no contact and being betrayed by our undercover agent, we finally had some space from Dragonfly's lies and drama. We maintained a friendship and moved on with our lives... but with time comes reflection, and things started to look a little different with some space. Conversations about a serious incident let to some sleuthing... and what came next shocked.... no one. #truecrime #conartist #romancescam #storytime #whotfdidimarry #australia Disclaimer: The views shared in this podcast are our opinions and interpretations of events, not statements of fact. Saving the Villain

We had trusted Sophie to help us warn a woman who was being conned by Dragonfly. But it seemed that she wasn’t as immune to narcissistic charm as she had insisted. Sophie had started to give #PickMe energy, but nothing could have prepared us for the reasoning behind her ideology. As Jules’ last conversation with her spirals, Sophie reveals a startling family secret that explains everything. URGENT APPEAL: Help us identify and warn Dragonfly's new victim

URGENT APPEAL: help us warn his new victim This is another episode that you’ll want to watch on YouTube. When Kiki tries to reach out to Dragonfly (Nicholas Firefly) to give him an opportunity to share his side of the story, a whirlwind of events unfolded, which led to this episode: a PSA, an appeal for help to locate his new victim. In this episode we will share footage of the attempt to contact Nicholas and the immediate aftermath, and explain how we came to have a photo of his new victim. This episode is an urgent appeal. PLEASE share this, especially if you know anyone in the Brisbane area. This woman deserves to know the truth, and she deserves to make INFORMED consent about the ‘relationship’ she is in.

   Unconvetional Espionage

Sophie was already connected to Dragonfly from a Facebook group. She recognised him from a PSA and offered to help us investigate whether he was conning Belinda, the woman he met on the ferry. But as the weeks go on, the signs start piling up. Pick-me logic. Excusing harmful behaviour. Blaming women. And then… flirting with Dragonfly. Then, finally, Jules hears from Belinda. And you won’t believe where she was when she received our warning about Dragonfly. The lesson from this episode? Trust no one. Especially not someone who insists they’re “just being fair” to an abuser.

   Spiralling Toward September (Screenshot edition)

Episode 7 If you’re listening on audio only, trust us: this is the one you’ll want to watch on YouTube. The video version is packed with 37 receipts: screenshots, photos, message threads, and evidence that turns this episode into an absolute forensic deep-dive into Dragonfly’s tangled web. Kiki’s reading from a psychic turns from a funny aside into a genuinely jaw-dropping plot point. Meanwhile, Dragonfly resurfaces with his attempt at a redemption tour. There are new schemes, ‘jobs,’ and stories about his mysterious ‘friends.’ We begin comparing notes, screenshots and timelines that reveal just how deep the deception goes. What we didn’t expect at this point was to receive new admissions from Dragonfly that reshaped the entire landscape of the story. By the time we piece it all together, the focus shifts to someone we’ve mentioned before. Belinda, the woman who he met on the ferry, may be at far more risk than we first realised. With new information at hand, we make a decision that ends in a phone call that NONE of us were expecting.

Wendy, Part 2: Behind Closed Doors With a Con

Wendy, part 2: Behind closed doors with a con. You will love getting to know more about Wendy in part 2 of our forbidden interview with her. We hear more about Wendy’s perspective and motivations as we dive deeper into what family life was really like behind Dragonfly’s carefully crafted mask. Wendy paints a clear picture of what it meant to share a home with someone who was at best, chronically lazy, and at worst, dangerously violent. She reflects on raising their two daughters while juggling the full domestic load, cooking, cleaning, caregiving, even building their house, all while Dragonfly spent most of his time glued to his phone. Community members also noticed his petulance, the arguments, the way he’d dramatically cut people off over nothing. At the same time, Dragonfly was telling her elaborate stories about having Indigenous Quandamooka relatives on Minjerribbah, North Stradbroke Island. But like so many of his claims, the details never aligned. Over a span of eight years, Wendy never met a single one of these family members, despite multiple trips to the Island with Dragonfly. This is in stark contrast to Dragonfly’s stories he would tell other partners. Wendy explains how the inconsistencies piled up and that by the time Jules reached out to explain that she’d discovered Dragonfly was a con, Wendy was not surprised in the slightest. Wendy also reflects on the turning point before she even left him, choosing independence, following her own goals, and even building their home largely on her own while he “worked on the business.” Wendy’s spark of reclaiming her path began long before the relationship ended. Looking back from a healthier, grounded, flourishing life, Wendy shares what it means to rebuild after coercive control and domestic violence. Her world has expanded in every direction, professionally, personally and creatively, in ways that weren’t possible under Dragonfly’s emotional weight. Her story is not just a record of what she survived, but a testament to what she reclaimed.

Wendy, Part 1: Marriage to Mayhem

In this powerful two-part interview, we sit down with Wendy: Dragonfly’s ex-wife, a social worker, domestic violence advocate, and respected member of her community. For eight years, Wendy lived a life with Dragonfly that was built on lies. She was conned into a marriage founded entirely on false pretences, enduring years of emotional, psychological, and physical abuse at the hands of a man she believed she knew. In Part One, Wendy shares how she first met Dragonfly and how he carefully constructed the persona that drew her in, and she walks us through the slow erosion of trust and safety that followed - and the moments that exposed the truth. We begin comparing our stories and uncovering the strikingly similar tactics he used to manipulate, isolate, and control each of us. Wendy also bravely revisits one of the darkest points in her life: when Dragonfly’s violence left her hospitalised with 22 stitches after he viciously physically attacked her. It’s a confronting story of survival and truth-telling, but also of strength, integrity, and reclaiming one’s voice. This episode sheds light on how coercive control operates behind closed doors, even in the lives of educated and capable women, and how abusers use triangulation, charm, and deceit to maintain their power.

   Arrest Me, Daddy

This is a very special update about things that have occurred THIS WEEK in the Dragonfly saga. Events have taken a truly bizarre turn. Kiki and Jules break down the surreal new developments, unpacking what might have been going through Dragonfly’s mind when he decided to make this move. After weeks of joking about trying to get listeners on North Stradbroke Island, it looks like we’ve finally done it… just not in the way we expected. Let’s just say, our first Straddie fans might be tuning in from behind a police desk.
