❖ In this episode of The Marriage Strategist Strike Files, we open Strike File #214 and conclude Matthew Keller’s battlefield testimony:
10 Ways My Marriage Coach Changed My Life.
Over the previous three Strike Files, Matthew has walked through eight lessons that changed the way he approached his wife, his marriage, his spiritual life, and himself.
He learned to pray every day.
To rethink marital intimacy.
To stop arguing with his wife.
To make weekly date night a priority.
To put his wife on a pedestal through deliberate service.
To stop oversharing his private life with everyone else.
To make sure his wife can reach him.
And to fast for his wife and marriage.
But Matthew’s final two lessons go even deeper.
They deal with how a Catholic husband interprets the storms God permits in his life—and whether he has the courage to examine the man staring back at him in the mirror.
In this episode, we move into the final two battlefield lessons:
• Read Uniformity With God’s Will
• Know You’re the #1 Threat to Your Family
Matthew says reading St. Alphonsus Liguori’s Uniformity with God’s Will was one of the best things he did during the entire program.
It changed how he viewed his marriage crisis.
It challenged his “woe is me” mindset.
And it planted peace where there had been despair.
Instead of seeing every inconvenience, disappointment, setback, and storm merely as something happening to him, Matthew began asking what God might be trying to accomplish through it.
That does not mean God wills sin or that a husband should passively accept injustice.
It means that even when God merely permits something difficult, a Catholic husband can ask:
What is the Holy Spirit trying to show me here?
And then comes Matthew’s final battlefield lesson.
The greatest threat to your wife and family may not be somewhere outside your home.
It may be you.
Your pride.
Your anger.
Your selfishness.
Your complacency.
Your appetites.
Your words.
Your reactions.
Your decisions.
Every little action or reaction from a husband either builds his family up or tears it down.
There is no neutral here.
In this episode, we break down:
• Why Uniformity with God’s Will transformed Matthew’s understanding of his marriage crisis
• Why suffering and inconvenience can become opportunities for virtue and grace
• Why a husband does not need to understand everything God permits before trusting Him
• Why “This is from God” became Matthew’s response to good and difficult circumstances
• Why accepting God’s permissive will does not mean accepting sin or injustice
• Why a Catholic husband must remain prudent and vigilant while still trusting Providence
• Why the Holy Spirit may use difficult circumstances to expose pride, impatience, selfishness, or other disorder
• Why husbands must stop looking only outside themselves for threats to their families
• Why the first man a husband must keep under surveillance is himself
• Why every action and reaction from a husband either strengthens or weakens his home
• Why a husband’s influence reaches far beyond his own lifetime
• Why your marriage can affect your children, grandchildren, and generations you will never meet
• Why husbands must keep the big picture in mind during the ordinary grind of family life
• Why vigilance includes both examining yourself and anticipating legitimate external dangers
• Why the same husband who can become his family’s #1 threat can also become its #1 blessing
• Why taking your family to Mass, praying with them, and spending time with them matters
• Why husbands should not wait for a crisis before confronting complacency
• Why Matthew believes the work of building a legendary marriage is worth the suffering
• Why your wife is more than your “partner”
• Why she should remain your beloved, your bride, your best friend—and the woman whose heart you continue winning every day
This is Strike File #214.
And this is the conclusion of Matthew Keller’s battlefield testimony.
The battlefield is not always somewhere outside your home.
Sometimes the battlefield is the inconvenience you did not want.
Sometimes it is the suffering you do not understand.
Sometimes it is learning to trust God while walking through a storm.
And sometimes the battlefield is the man staring back at you in the mirror.
A rookie husband asks:
“Why is this happening to me?”
A Catholic husband asks:
“What is God trying to show me?”
A rookie husband constantly searches outside himself for the problem.
A Catholic husband examines himself first.
A rookie husband lives only for today.
A Catholic husband remembers that what he builds inside his marriage may echo through generations.
And a rookie husband eventually begins thinking of his wife as merely his partner.
A Catholic husband remembers:
She is his beloved.
His bride.
His best friend.
The woman of his dreams.
The mother of his children.
And the gift God has given him to help him get to Heaven.
Win her heart every day.
