   New Moon in Libra II: What Are You Agreeing To, At What Cost?

   What are you agreeing to, and have you looked closely enough at the terms? Are they stepping over boundaries you wanted to set or asking you to override your needs? As ruler Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, her detriment or exile, this can be a time when you realise where you have signed away your agency. Venus, the connector who brings harmony, peace in relationships and helps us to find balance, rules this New Moon. Libra is cardinal, masculine air so here, Venus initiates through conversation, comparison, negotiation, the social niceties and the creation of relationship between things as well as people. It might be that you make choices about what belongs together, perhaps because it feels proportionate, there is agreement or compromise. I will explore 3 layers of this New Moon, the Longer Story of the Moon Family. The Landscape of the decan of Libra II where the New Moon falls. This is a decan exploring the unseen links we forge with others and the promises that hold them together. Finally, the Astrology of the New Moon. In October we have two Venus-ruled lunations, while Venus herself is retrograde. She is thought to be travelling on an underworld journey where she is reborn. Venus stationed retrograde in Scorpio on 3rd October, traditionally a difficult place for Venus and in whole-sign aversion to Libra. This means the ruler of this beginning cannot quite see the sign she governs and offer the support of easily manifesting her significations. Venus is already (appearing to be) travelling backwards towards home, returning to Libra on 25 October in time to be at home for the Taurus Full Moon. There is a sense of a pause with retrogrades, and Venus retrogrades occur less often than the other planets. All retrogrades ask us to return to old stories, to work through any of the RE words that may be appropriate, return, reflect, revise…you get the idea. Here, before we decide what we are willing to bind ourselves to, or form any new agreements, there is something to review about desire, value, trust and the expectations carried into relationship. The Longer Story All New Moons form the building blocks of a longer Moon Family story that unfolds in our lives. Some Moon Families are more important to us individually than others. This is part of the Lunar Gestation Cycle, which is explored by astrologer Dietrich Pessin in Lunar Shadows III. In a Moon Family, four related and progressing lunar phases return to the same area, or ‘address’ of the zodiac, at approximately 9-month intervals, which offer turning points in a developing story in our lives. We can identify these phases when the Moon connects with the Sun in a New Moon phase, but then returns to that same area 9 months later to form a First Quarter, then a Full Moon and finally a Last Quarter over 27 months. For this Moon Family, you will find these dates significant: * New Moon10 October 2026 17°21′ Libra II * First Quarter 10 July 2027 18°17′ Libra II * Full Moon 9 April 2028 20°05′ Libra III * Last Quarter 7 January 2029 17°32′ Libra II If you want to work with the Moon Family, it can help to record events, new opportunities, omens, synchronities, conversations, ideas and invitations at the New Moon. It could be that a conversation lingers in your mind, playing on repeat, or a decision is taking shape, maybe you keep returning to a particular question. What matters is noticing what enters your life around this time, maybe an invitation, agreement, introduction, decision, negotiation or question. Include any seemingly ordinary details, as they may become more significant with hindsight. The First Quarter may require more direct action from you, this may bring some form of challenge, adjustment, rearrangement or choice. Knowing the timing helps you avoid giving up on your project or idea now; it just needs attention and changes, and the challenge isn’t telling you that it isn’t working. The Full Moon may offer you illumination and understanding, there may be some culmination or peak. You begin to fully see the potential results being fruited from your efforts. The Full Moon phase in April 2028 crosses into Libra III, which is a reminder that a Moon Family develops and progresses. The story is linked by degree and phase, but it does not remain frozen in the symbolism of the original decan. Libra III is called Gyroscope by Austin Coppock and Take Shelter in the Wild Way Oracle Deck. It acknowledges that a storm and turbulence can form around us, and we are encouraged to find our centre of balance, or peace in the eye of the storm, while we come to terms with what we can, and cannot, control. There may be themes linked to this coming into your story that tie in with this third decan, that you newly understand, around the time of the Full Moon phase. The Last Quarter gives us a point from which to consider what has changed and what remains useful. I call it a (Dis) Integration, as you allow what you have outgrown now to fall away and you integrate what works well and you will keep to include going forwards. Look for your natal Libra house to see what area of life this new beginning in your life will focus on, you can also look at the house where Venus is placed natally for you too. Do you have any planets or angles within 14- 21 degrees of Libra or the other Cardinal signs, Capricorn, Aries and Cancer, or the other Air signs, Aquarius and Gemini, or is Venus your Lord of the Year or your Solar Return Ascendant? If so, this family may be more noticeable and significant for you. The Landscape - The Binding Decan The second decan of Libra, ruled by Saturn (both in triplicity and Chaldean order), brings themes of commitment, promises, and trust. Astrologer Kira Ryberg calls it “Commitment,” while Austin Coppock calls it the “(Forged) Links of a Chain,” underscoring the forged, binding nature of agreements formed under this decan. Libra II invites us to think about the oaths we take and the partnerships we commit to. In 36 Faces, Austin Coppock shares that “the promises and contracts that link people together are created and tested here. Weak links are exposed, but so also is the true heart revealed….This is thus a face of lasting unions and blended karma. The choice of whom to chain oneself to, and under what terms, is therefore critical.” He continues to discuss how oaths have guardians, for the Ancient Greeks, it was the daimon Horkos. He was brother to one of the furies, Erinyes. Horkos protected oaths and punished those who betrayed their oaths. In the Wild Way Oracle deck, we see the image of ravens in flight in a darkened sky. Between them, they carry a linked chain. We are reminded that every promise carries the potential for betrayal. Either could let go at any time and increase the burden on the other. We are reminded to go carefully into binding promises and check the terms. The Wild Way Oracle gives us keywords for this decan of: Binding Together; Oaths and Promises; Potential for Betrayal. As we move through this landscape, we are asked to initiate strong bonds that respect our own individual freedoms, needs and boundaries. The time to take the most care with this is when entering agreements, when we check the T’s and C’s, and read between the dotted lines. After we have given our word, then it holds weight here. We are bound by our oaths and promises, and release can cause pain, or only come after betrayal. Here we find how Saturn shows up in a Venusian sign. We all live in a network of chains of multiple connections. Some we have the agency to have chosen, but others we might have inherited, others we are hardly aware of, until there is a change, or a link fails. This may show up in intimate promises made between lovers, but also includes contracts, collaborations, boundaries, your routines, decisions to stay or leave, or the ways you hide your truth when you try to keep the peace and make something work, when it is not sustainable. A New Moon in Libra II begins a new story, asking you to form new relationships with the the links you create and are responsible for. What are these links made of? What do they mean to you? Are the terms equal and enduring? The Present Moment The New Moon itself has no close major mundane aspect to another planet within three-degree engagement, although there is a separation from an opposition to Saturn in Aries, and it is applying to a sextile with Jupiter in Leo. The ruler of the Libra New Moon, Venus, is retrograde in Scorpio, where she is traditionally said to be in her exile or detriment ( as she is at the farthest distance from her home sign of Taurus). This also means Venus in Scorpio is in whole-sign aversion to Libra, she has no direct light of sight, her rays cannot be seen by the New Moon. This place of debility for Venus means that her significations, such as connection, love, desire, attachment may not meet the normal niceties of society, we may see a rougher, tougher side of Venus, the behind the scenes version. The retrograde also means that Venus is distracted by thoughts and feelings from the past. Venus is however, moving back towards her home sign of Libra, so things will improve as her retrograde journey proceeds. So, as we move through this New Moon in the landscape of Libra II we may feel the need to review and revise some of our past agreements and promises, to take another look at what we value, our expectations from ourselves, and others, and to reconsider our ability to meet our promises. It might be that you have found niggles, or deeper worries coming up. The opposition with Saturn has loosed some structures and shown up where they are weak and unlikely to endure. Now, you may need to be more honest around relationships, agreements or exchange before you can move forward with a workable solution and strengthen trust. This is a time to notice where the terms are changing for you, where are you being asked to define them? Are you being asked to blur your boundaries, or lose a part of yourself? It might be that an old obligation is still influencing your beliefs. Are you ready to leave them behind now? Take advantage of the applying sextile to Jupiter in Leo, offering you faith and wisdom in yourself and creative, confident ways to approach your renegotiations. The New Moon offers a fresh beginning, but Libra II reminds us that beginnings create consequences that continue as the Moon waxes fuller and beyond.    What Was the Cut For? Full Moon in Aries I

   What have the last eighteen months since the solar eclipse in Aries taught you about what is worth your courage, effort and protection? What have you cut out? If this has been a work in progress, the Full Moon will reveal your story. The story that is coming to a peak now, may have started for you back in March 2025 with a partial solar eclipse at 8°59′ Aries. If you have planets or placements conjunct or aspected by this Full Moon, then you will be moving through the Moon Family that began 18 months ago. As it was instigated by an eclipse, the story may be significant for you, hindsight, plus the light of the Full Moon, will help reveal what began and is coming to fruition now. Mars, the warrior planet, rules Aries, here we move through cardinal fire and yang, so it initiates, experiences, cuts through, and separates as it moves toward its goal. At the time of a Full Moon in Aries, there is time for the fast-paced Aries motion to pause and observe what has already grown, where you have already directed events and energy and to reconnect and review that what you are aiming for is still as aligned as it was when you set out. As you integrate your experiences, perhaps your goals have also grown and evolved and now your actions need adjusting, reflect on what experience has taught you about the action that is needed now. The Longer Story - The Aries I Moon Family This Moon Family began with the partial solar eclipse on 29 March 2025 at 8°59′ Aries. The First Quarter was on 27 December 2025 at 6°17′ Aries, this was a time of challenge or decisions. The story now peaks with the illumination of this Full Moon on 26 September 2026 at 3°37′ Aries. It will complete its final phase with the Last Quarter on 27 June 2027 at 5°21′ Aries with some integration and release. Astrologer Dietrich Pession identified the Lunar Gestation Cycle, or Moon Families. She describes how the Moon returns at every stage to the same area in the sky, degree range or ‘address’ in a progressing relationship with the Sun. This Moon Family is within Aries I, so the same concentrated Mars landscape runs through the whole story. Learn more about your own Moon Families and how to work with the Moon Families yourself at the upcoming workshop in November This story may hold more impact for you if you have planets or placements in the Cardinal, or Fire signs between 0 - 12 degrees. That is Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, Leo and Sagittarius. Also, if Mars is your Lord of the Year or Solar Return Ascendant. There was fiery urgency when the solar eclipse began this Moon Family in March 2025 at the end of the Eclipses with the nodes transiting through the Aries - Libra axis. At that time, Mercury was retrograde in Aries. Mars, ruler of the eclipse, was wading through Cancer after its own retrograde. Mars was working through questions of vulnerability, protection, belonging and what was worth acting for. Mars has returned to these questions in Cancer, which are highlighted again for this Full Moon. You may have clearer insight now than you did at the time of the New Moon eighteen months ago into what you were protecting, what you were prepared to fight for, or why a particular choice felt necessary. When you look back, to March and December 2025, can you identify a story that is returning now? What entered your life, changed direction or demanded action or a response from you? Maybe if felt urgent before you had enough distance to understand where it might lead. The story will still continue to mature for another nine months to its full integration and resolution. This Full Moon is a pivot point on that journey. The Landscape - Aries I: The Axe The First Decan of Aries: The Double-Bladed Axe Ancient astrologers divided each 30-degree sign into three 10-degree segments called decans, each with its own specific character and symbolic imprint and spirits. The decans existed as divisions of the zodiac before the zodiac was divided into the 12 Sun Signs that we are most familiar with. The first decan of Aries, spans from 0°to 10° and sits at the very beginning of the astrological year when the Sun visits there, marking the first breath of light and fire, the initial spark of renewal after the watery dissolution of Pisces. Austin Coppock calls this first decan of Aries “The Double-Bladed Axe”. We know the axe makes decisive cuts, creates clear separations, and can forge new paths through dense, unwelcoming landscape. Its double-bladed nature suggests that actions could have consequences which extend beyond our initial intentions, perhaps by cutting in multiple directions. simultaneously. Kira Ryberg associates the first decan of Aries with “battle”, highlighting connections to conflict, struggle, and the fierce, undeniable drive for autonomy that defines this decan. At the time of a Full Moon here, there is an invitation to engage with our individual battles, where do you fight for independence and where are you reminded of the need to express your authentic existence? The Wild Way Oracle Card (https://www.the-wild-way.com) illustrates the Bold squirrel forging its path with the double bladed axe standing proudly on its tree stump. The Guidebook says: “When Aries I squirrel bounces into the picture, it’s time to boldly go forth and conquer. Like a squirrel venturing from its tree to gather resources, we’re called to leave comfort zones in pursuit of what we truly desire.” We are given the Keywords: Claim your kingdom, Jump First, Think Later, and Self-Mastery. What do these keywords bring up for you at this time? Maybe this captures the essence of how Aries evolves, beginning with claiming territory and staking your place in the world, moving through characteristic impulsivity, and ultimately culminating in self-mastery. The spontaneous, sometimes maybe risk taking or reckless energy of this decan ultimately serves the higher purpose of self-development and personal authority. The one who wields the axe must also learn mastery to avoid self-injury if nothing else. What makes this placement especially significant is its double rulership by Mars, in a Mars ruled sign, making it intensely martial, assertive and amplifying Mars’ focus. This is raw, primal Mars energy at its most direct and uncompromising, amplifying our drive for autonomy and independence. It is time to embrace your own power to carve new paths with courage. Implement plans you’ve been hesitating on, claim your kingdom, and assert your right to self-determination. Consider that, just like the double-bladed axe, your decisive actions now can create both challenges and opportunities. The Present Moment - The Astrological Conversation At 4:49 pm UT, the Moon arrives at 3°37′ Aries, opposing the Sun in Libra. Retrograde Neptune has just met the Moon, while retrograde Pluto in Aquarius and retrograde Uranus in Gemini form supportive sextiles. The Libra Sun trines both Pluto and Uranus. The Moon will conjunct Saturn in Aries after it meets Uranus. The Full Moon therefore draws the larger outer-planet story of 2026 into this much more immediate lunar moment, which we can experience in our own lives, emotions and bodies. Neptune close to the Moon softens the edges of what we are experiencing. Feelings may be strong, dreams could be vivid and your intuition may be active. You may find that something previously difficult to name may finally reach your awareness, while other parts of the picture remain indistinct and foggy. You may know that something matters before understanding precisely what it means. For Aries I, that can matter, as the impulse to move can arrive quickly, while Neptune is asking for enough space to recognise the difference between an emotional truth and the story we can build around it. The image of Two of Wands tarot card which corresponds with this decan can help us here. In the image, a figure looks out over a view holding a globe. It suggests that we can pause to reflect while we hold the possibility in our hands, look towards where it might lead us and allow direction to emerge before acting simply because energy is available. We are aiming to move with purpose and focus. Pluto and Uranus bring another kind of movement. Pluto in Aquarius continues the deeper process of restructuring and empowerment already underway, while Uranus in Gemini opens different routes through ideas, information and connection. Something that once felt disruptive may now look like a door opening. A truth buried beneath the surface may be easier to recognise, or circumstances may have changed enough for another possibility to become visible. The ruler of the Full Moon takes us back to where this story began 18 months ago. Mars is at the final degree of Cancer, in fall, preparing to enter Leo on 28 September. Mars is at the tip of a whole-sign T-square with the Sun and Moon, this can bring challenges to any protective action that Mars is trying to take as it prepares to complete its business in Cancer, the needs of the Aries Moon to take action, and the Libra Sun for visible balance may demand they are taken into account first. The warrior planet of action has been moving through Cancer’s terrain of protection, memory, kinship, belonging and emotional vulnerability. Mars here can fight and protect what feels precious, sometimes before we have fully understood the feelings beneath the impulse. This is the same sign, Cancer, that Mars was moving through when the Moon Family began with the New Moon Solar Eclipse eighteen months ago. There is the feeling of a mirror being held up with this. What began for you while Mars was asking why the fight mattered reaches its Full Moon peak as Mars now prepares to leave that landscape behind. You may finally understand what you were defending, or perhaps why something mattered so much, or whether the protection that once worked well has now become a habit that the time has come to release. Mars will be moving from the Cancerian waters into fixed fire, changing the quality of the action. Before it does, this Full Moon offers an opportunity to understand the often vulnerable and sensitive Cancer part of the story. What mattered enough for you to pick up the axe in the first place? As the Moon becomes full, return to the story that began in March 2025 and consider What can you see now that you could not have known then? Maybe you are protecting something because it still matters, or there is somewhere that defence has become familiar simply because you have been doing it for so long? When you consider the story of the last eighteen months, reflect on what the axe is for now? There is one more phase to come, when the Moon returns to Aries I for the Last Quarter in June 2027. For now, we have reached the part of the story where the hidden threads begin to show themselves, and where experience can help us use our strength with greater purpose. Travel well, friends.
