Dr. Celina Dubin Feldman, a dermatologist specializing in general and cosmetic dermatology, discusses her co-authored study on telling DRESS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) apart from morbilliform drug eruption (MDE) using routine blood work.
Published in Dermatitis, March 2026, the preliminary investigation used machine learning to find that lymphocyte count, pan-immune inflammation value, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet levels strongly discriminate between the two at first presentation.

Celina Dubin MD- Drug-Induced Phototoxicity in Vitiligo
A case report I co-authored on drug-induced photosensitivity in a patient with vitiligo, published in Case Reports in Dermatological Medicine.
Depigmented skin has no melanocytes and therefore little natural photoprotection. Add a photosensitizing medication and the risk of UV injury rises sharply. In this case a 54-year-old man with vitiligo developed erythematous papules confined to sun-exposed, depigmented skin. The lesions were initially mistaken for a fungal infection; a medication review pointed instead to olmesartan-HCTZ.
The takeaway for clinicians: review the medication list before treating a recurrent rash in vitiliginous skin.
