When Motherhood Becomes Survival Mode: Postpartum Depression & the Sacral Chakra

The Lindsay Clancy trial has brought renewed attention to postpartum mental illness and the devastating ways a mother’s mental health can deteriorate when she is struggling. Watching the case made me reflect on my own experience with postpartum depression and brought me back to something I read in Caroline Myss’s Anatomy of the Spirit about the second chakra—the sacral chakra—and its connection to relationships, reproduction, creativity, and creative energy. In this episode, I explore a question that has been on my mind: What happens when a woman stops creating? So many women pour themselves into motherhood, relationships, work, and caring for everyone around them that they eventually put their own creative energy aside. Maybe she was a dancer, an artist, a writer, an entrepreneur, or simply someone who loved creating—and somewhere along the way, she stopped. What happens when that part of her remains dormant for years? I share my own experience with postpartum depression and talk about why I believe women need space to reconnect with their creative energy and allow it to move again. We also talk about survival mode, motherhood, identity, postpartum support, and why I am currently studying Ayurvedic postpartum doula care as I continue developing the services I want to offer women. This conversation is not a medical explanation of postpartum depression or an attempt to diagnose Lindsay Clancy. I am exploring this topic through a spiritual and personal lens and reflecting on the ideas presented in Anatomy of the Spirit. What happens when a woman spends years creating for everyone else but stops creating for herself? That’s the conversation. 🔔 Stay Connected & Continue the Conversation 🎧 Subscribe to Chakra Confessions on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chakra-confessions-podcast/id1866248001) and Spotify 💬 Join my Substack community chat- we’re continuing this conversation with bonus reflection questions and deeper discussion 📓 Grab the Reiki Love Healing Journal (https://a.co/d/07K0YgRJ) on Amazon and use it to reflect on the conversations we have here. 💻 Join the Feminine Energy Healing Circle (https://reikiloveheal.substack.com/p/reiki-love-healing-circle) - a monthly live healing circle exclusively for paid subscribers. Chakra Confessions Epi 10: How Hyper-Independence Blocks Healthy Relationships

In this episode, I share my personal journey with hyper-independence and how it affected my relationships for years without me even realizing it. Many women living in survival mode become the strong one, the caretaker, the giver, and the fixer. We learn to do everything ourselves because at some point in our lives, we stopped believing that support was available to us. But what happens when that survival strategy follows us into our relationships? In this episode, I discuss: ✨ What hyper-independence really is ✨ How childhood experiences shape our ability to trust and receive support ✨ The connection between hyper-independence and people-pleasing ✨ Why over-giving can lead to resentment and emotional exhaustion ✨ How I found myself repeating the same relationship pattern over and over ✨ The lesson I had to learn about self-worth, boundaries, and receiving ✨ What healing hyper-independence looks like If you’ve ever found yourself doing more than your fair share in a relationship, struggling to ask for help, or feeling like you have to earn love by proving your value, this episode is for you. 💜 Remember: You do not have to carry everything alone. You do not have to earn love through sacrifice. And you are worthy of support simply because you exist. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌿 Continue Your Healing Journey 📖 Read the Survival Mode Series on Substack:Reiki Love Healing 📔 Explore the Healing Hyper-Independence Guide ✨ Get the Reiki Love Healing Journal on Amazon 💬 I’d love to hear from you: What relationship pattern keeps showing up in your life? Chakra Confessions Epi 9: Faith Over Fear - How Surrendering Everything Changed My Life in 7 Days

One of the hardest things to do when you are consumed with fear and anxiety is make a decision. Especially when you cannot see what is on the other side of it. That is the Throat Chakra wound. The fifth chakra is not just about finding your voice. It is about something much deeper, the struggle between surrendering your personal will to divine will. Between making decisions from fear or making decisions from faith. In today’s episode I am getting deeply personal. I am sharing the story of one of the most toxic relationships of my life, how staying too long began manifesting in my body through a cracked tooth and a dental abscess and what happened when I finally heard the voice that said keep going and I will take care of you. Within seven days of walking out the door my life changed drastically. Not because I figured it out. Because I finally stopped trying to. This episode is for the woman who knows exactly what she needs to do but cannot bring herself to do it. The woman whose jaw is always tight. Whose thyroid is struggling. Whose neck never fully relaxes. Whose body has been speaking what her voice has been too afraid to say. You do not have to see the furnished apartment before you walk out the door. You just have to walk out the door. In this episode: ✦ What the Throat Chakra really governs and why it is about so much more than communication ✦ The physical symptoms of a blocked Throat Chakra and why your body is always telling you the truth ✦ Why women in survival mode struggle to make decisions even when they know exactly what they need to do ✦ My personal story and how my life turned around in 7 days. ✦ The healing path, what active courageous faith actually looks like in practice ✦ This week’s reflection question to write through in your journal This Week’s Reflection Question: Where in your life are you making decisions from fear instead of faith and what would change if you finally trusted the divine to handle what you cannot control? 🎙️ CHAKRA CONFESSIONS EPI. 8: The Other Side of No Contact - A Mother's Perspective

The no contact conversation is everywhere right now. But there is one voice that is almost never included in that conversation, the mother’s. In this episode we flip the script. We are not talking about why adult children go no contact today. We are talking about the mother who showed up, who sacrificed, who voluntarily went to therapy to break her own generational cycles and who still finds herself on the outside of her child’s life wondering what happened. We explore the specific kind of pain that comes when a mother realizes her adult child treats her differently around certain people, how outside influences quietly poison the parent-child relationship, and why the parent who stayed is so often the one who ends up on trial. In this episode we discuss: * The Mother Who Did The Work: What it feels like to heal your own wounds specifically for your children and still feel unwelcome in their lives. * The Influence Nobody Talks About: How partners, in-laws and outside voices shape an adult child’s relationship with their mother without the mother ever getting a chance to speak for herself. * The Parent Who Stayed On Trial: Why the mother who sacrificed everything is often judged more harshly than the parent who was never there. * What Estrangement Does To A Mother’s Chakras: How the Heart, Root, Solar Plexus and Throat Chakras all carry the wounds of this specific kind of grief. * Healing From This Side: What it looks like to love your child from a distance while still honoring your own worth and protecting your own peace. Today’s Core Reflection Question: “Have you ever considered that the parent who went quiet might be the one who is grieving the loudest?” Join the Conversation & Support the Show: * 💬 Join the Substack Community Chat: Join us for subscriber-only bonus material to continue this conversation deeper on Reiki Love Healing Substack. * 📓 The Reiki Love Healing Journal: Rebuild your foundation and track your shifts. CHAKRA CONFESSIONS EPI 7:Root Chakra Safety in Uncertain Times

After a two-week hiatus to breathe and recalibrate, Chakra Confessions is back! The world is watching a devastating escalation in the Middle East. With the U.S. and Israel engaged in a deep conflict with Iran, the headlines are filled with strikes, evacuations, and uncertainty. From an energetic perspective, this isn’t just a political war; we are witnessing a massive Root Chakra rupture. We dive deep into the “All is One” concept and how a collective infection of fear can turn a “Home” into a “Fortress.” In this episode, we discuss: * The Survival Mode Mirror: How current global events are triggering our oldest personal wounds of safety and abandonment. * The Paradox of the Locked Door: Why forcing security through aggression and “Law and Order” creates a prison of fear rather than a sanctuary. * The Cost of Belonging: What happens when the “Head of the Family” or a nation exiles you for choosing peace over tribal loyalty. * Neutrality & Compassion: Why staying grounded in your own truth is the only way to heal a “rootless” soul. Today’s Core Reflection Question: “What old wounds around ‘safety’ is this global conflict triggering in me right now?” Join the Conversation & Support the Show: * 💬 Join the Substack Community Chat: Join us for subscriber-only bonus material to continue this conversation deeper on Reiki Love Healing Substack. * 📓 The Reiki Love Healing Journal: Rebuild your foundation and track your shifts. Chakra Confessions Podcast Epi 6: The Root Chakra Wound Nobody Talks About

In this episode of Chakra Confessions, we explore a root chakra wound that begins in childhood but follows many women into adulthood, being taught obedience instead of safety. Many of us were raised hearing: “Respect your elders.” “Don’t talk back.” “Stay quiet.” But what happens when a child is never given the space to speak, question, or explain? They grow into adults who freeze during conflict, tolerate disrespect, struggle with boundaries, and live in survival mode. In this episode, I share a recent experience that triggered this realization and how childhood conditioning shapes the nervous system, self-worth, and the ability to advocate for yourself. We talk about how silence becomes anxiety, how fear becomes people-pleasing, and how suppressed voice becomes a blocked root chakra. This conversation is for anyone who: • struggles to stand up for themselves • feels guilty setting boundaries • was punished for expressing emotions • learned to be “good” instead of feeling safe • feels stuck in masculine survival energy Healing the root chakra isn’t just about grounding, it’s about reclaiming your voice. The Black Sheep Was Never the Problem

In this episode of Chakra Confessions, we explore the deep connection between root chakra trauma, toxic family culture, abandonment, and the experience of being the black sheep of the family. Many women grow up inside family systems that prioritize loyalty over truth, hierarchy over accountability, and survival over emotional safety. When one member begins to question those dynamics or chooses healing, independence, or growth they are often met with resistance, scapegoating, or abandonment. In this episode, I talk about: * How the root chakra governs family, tribe, belonging, and survival * Why the black sheep is often the one who sees the dysfunction first * How generational belief systems like “respect your elders no matter what” prevent accountability * Why walking away isn’t rejection, it’s self-preservation * How abandonment trauma keeps women stuck in survival mode and hyper-independence * What happens when you stop seeking validation from the family system and reclaim your personal power I also share a personal story that marked the first time I knew I had to distance myself from my family, not out of anger, but out of self-respect. This episode is for women who have done the work, tried to repair relationships, and finally realized that healing sometimes requires stepping out of the tribe. If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t belong in your own family… If you were labeled “difficult,” “too sensitive,” or “the problem” when you started setting boundaries… This conversation will resonate deeply. Abandonment Trauma & The Root Chakra: Why You Stay in Situations That Don't Feel Safe.

In this episode of Chakra Confessions, we’re continuing our Root Chakra healing series and talking about one of the most painful wounds so many women carry: abandonment trauma. Abandonment doesn’t always look like someone physically leaving. Sometimes it looks like emotional neglect, family rejection, feeling unsupported, or being treated like you don’t matter. And when that happens early in life, it can deeply impact your root chakra, your nervous system, your sense of safety, and the way you build relationships as an adult. In this 47-minute episode, I share a personal story about how abandonment wounds affected my own life and how survival mode can shape everything from self-esteem to relationship choices, boundaries, and the ability to trust. We discuss: * Root chakra trauma and tribal power * How abandonment creates hyper-independence and emotional shutdown * Why women in survival mode often struggle with receiving support * How abandonment wounds can attract unhealthy or narcissistic relationships * How family patterns, loyalty, and emotional immaturity are passed down * Why healing requires safety, boundaries, and self-respect If you’ve ever felt like you had to “figure it out alone,” if you struggle to trust people, or if you pull away before someone can leave you first—this episode is for you. You can heal. You can rebuild your foundation. And you can come out of survival mode, one chakra at a time. Root Chakra, Tribal Power & The No-Contact Epidemic (Part 2) Epi 3

Root Chakra = tribal power. It’s the energy center connected to safety, security, belonging, and support and it forms in childhood through your earliest experiences with family. In today’s episode of Chakra Confessions, I’m breaking down the Root Chakra connection to family systems and the rapidly growing epidemic of adult children going no contact with their parents. This isn’t a surface-level conversation. Because going no contact isn’t always about “toxic parents”…Sometimes it’s about unresolved trauma.Sometimes it’s about survival responses. And sometimes it’s about people who were never taught how to repair conflict, communicate, or hold emotional accountability in the family structure. In this episode we talk about:✨ Tribal power and why family is your first group identity✨ How childhood instability creates survival mode in adulthood✨ Why safety becomes a lifelong question: “Do I belong? Who catches me when I fall?”✨ How generational trauma passes down through behavior patterns✨ Why some people cut off the parent who stayed… while ignoring the parent who abandoned them✨ The truth about healing, boundaries, and emotional freedom 🎧 New episodes every week💬 Bonus material and deeper reflections continue in the community chat inside Substack. Rooted in Survival (Part One): Family, Safety, and the Root Chakra

This is Part One of a four-part series where we explore the root chakra through the lens of trauma and survival. In this episode, we focus on the root chakra’s connection to family systems, group identity, and safety. The root chakra is our energetic foundation, shaped early in life by the families and communities we are born into. We talk about how family dynamics influence our sense of belonging, how group safety can feel stabilizing or conditional, and how growing up without consistent support can leave us feeling unsafe in groups and relationships later in life. This episode lays the groundwork for understanding the root chakra as it relates to survival, identity, and the need to belong. In Part Two, we’ll explore how root chakra wounds affect mental and emotional patterns. Part Three focuses on how these wounds show up physically in the body. And in Part Four, we’ll talk about what healing the root chakra can actually look like. Chakra Confessions - Introduction Epi 1

In this opening episode of Chakra Confessions, I share the story behind this podcast and the journey that led me here. We explore how trauma lives in the body, why so many women get stuck in survival mode and masculine energy, and how unprocessed emotional patterns show up as physical symptoms over time. I talk about my background in traumatic stress, my non-traditional approach to Reiki, and why healing requires active participation not outsourcing your power. This episode sets the foundation for understanding chakras as emotional and energetic maps, and what it really means to listen to your body as part of the healing process.
